Synopsis

In preparation for filming a brand-new reality show, senior TV producer HA YAT-CHEUNG (Ruco Chan) is ready to document a Hong Kong teenager CHEUNG TSUN-KIT (Hero Yuen), who goes back to mainland China from the city in pursuit of the realm of returning to nature through his experience of the rural life there.

However, the TV station has a drastic shortage of manpower, so YAT-CHEUNG recruits a rookie HUI MEI-FUNG (Priscilla Wong) as his assistant, and his best friend LEUNG CHUNG-SHUN (Evergreen Mak) as the photographer. During the filming, each of them witnesses the significant change of the hero’s personality when this typical Hong Kong Kid is confronted with the culture conflicts in the countryside. In addition, everyone’s blind spot in daily life has also been addressed. YAT-CHEUNG, who is always subjective and persistent, starts afresh to review the love-hate relationship between him and his foster mother LAU TSUI-WAN (Louise Lee) as well as his biological mother HA SIU-HAN (Chan Sau Chu). Being diligent and sincere, MEI-FUNG works so hard to recover her self-esteem and the long-lost paternal love. Male chauvinist CHUNG-SHUN’s quarrel with his family members over trifles stirs up a great disturbance, resulting in his family being torn to pieces. Will the GPS Guide for the Soul eventually help them out of their predicament?

The cast and synopsis is putting me to sleep =( Looks like another series I’m going to skip!! Come on TVB..you can do much better!!

Is anyone watching it? Any feedback?

  • Lulu says:

I actually like this drama, though still not feeling much for the characters tbh, though, i do like the theme song very much, will there be a full version of this theme song ? 🙂

  • Madeline says:

Can’t wait for the full version of this song! Thanks K-TVB, I’ve been looking for a mp3 version of this song for soo long! >< Thanks again!!!!!!!!

  • Madeline says:

I guess this drama is pretty good. It taught me the great values of life and what to really appreciate.

gonna watch this shortly because it got good reviews!

How is it that Ruco went from his amazing self in The Other Truth to.. well, all his other shows after that? To be fair, he has been consistently good in all his shows but those shows were nothing to shout about. I’m hoping his upcoming shows with Linda and then with Ron will be really good. I mean give the guy a meaty character and good storyline to work with so he can flex his acting chops!

The theme song is really good tho, Ruco sounds like a legit singer (he released an album?)

I had never watched ruco in anything before only had heard that he was voted sexiest man or something to that effect. Never thought much of priscilla in her travel shows the 1or2 times that i caught her travel show. But i really liked reality check. I am onto ep 16 now and i find that the characters have grown on me. Despite Priscilla not being the typical tvb heroine she was very likeable in the way she portrayed her very practical character. I also liked hero yuen and the guy who plays assistant to evergreen mak. Good job tvb.

I don’t really follow this series (only saw random scenes), but I remember feeling like I was obliged to, considering I’m studying Media Arts and Production.

I felt like it’d be appropriate. But anyway, I haven’t chased up TVB series in aaages.

But I did note that I felt like I could relate to the main girl character… somehow. Yes… through those few scenes… lol. Also, how damn misogynistic was her father character?! Omg… -_-“

  • koc says:

I completed the series and it wasn’t as bad as I expected it to be.
In fact, I would give it an average rating (meaning unless you are really into romance or something like that you probably can watch the show to pass time).

What I liked about the show was that it portrays some realistic issues like staying with parents after marriage and both adults holding jobs. There are also a lot of other aspects which were being pointed out. I like shows with “hearts” so I thought it was a real down to earth one that most can relate to.
The female lead is the weakest link in acting but she has a really great smile which grew on me as the show went on. She’s really cute and I never knew about her before this, so in a way her character succeeded in making me notice her.
I like how they made the show a group one, instead of having WonderHuman leads that shine like the brightest star on earth. Everyone has a fair chance of screentime, but character development wise can be improved.

What I didn’t like about the show was that there was too much focus on Louise’s subplot. I felt the screen time can be put to better use after the Nth time she goes back on her promise to quit.

But all in all, it was a refreshing show.

    • koc says:

Oh, I forgot to mention one more plus point for me: the romantic subplot is quite bare minimal, which served me very well. It would have been very awkward to insert romance into the show (as a heavy weightage subplot)

    • KTVB says:

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the drama, esp since I didn’t watch it myself 🙂
