Official Synopsis

Wing Tai Lung is the silk kingdom in Canton during the early years of Republic China. Its owner POON WING-NIN (Yueh Hua), because of his advanced age, has handed over the charge to his elder son POON KA-HIN (Evergreen Mak) and daughter POON HAU-YEE (Hong Wah).

Out of the blue, HAU-YEE commits suicide, so his second son POON KA-YEUNG (Steven Ma), who was serving as a combat medic, returns to his hometown, taking over the reins. Apart from his discovery of HAU-YEE’s dubious death, the best friend of the late HAU-YEE, TONG BING-BING (Tavia Yeung) also has a feeling of suspicion, so the two decide to launch an investigation. However, they instead unfold the intricate relationships between their family members and the silk factory workers, and anyone could be the murder suspect, which is a double whammy for KA-YEUNG. All the girls working in the silk factory look up to the forewoman SIN PIK-WAN (Maggie Shiu) as their leader and constantly show hostility towards BING-BING. Ever since she started working in the factory, big fat liar FUNG CHI-CHING (Natalie Tong) has chosen to stay single. In fact, she is up to something, leaving the factory open to attack. In the meantime, KA-YEUNG feels deeply attracted to BING-BING’s sense of righteousness and courage. Just when their relationship is about to blossom into romance, tragedy strikes when BING-BING’s long-missing fiancé KWAN CHO-YIU (Raymond Cho) suddenly returns. And the real murderer who killed HAU-YEE turns out to be beyond all expectations. As one sows, so shall one reap. The whole POON family has spun a cocoon around themselves and got stuck in it. Although KA-YEUNG and BING-BING are determined to keep their family business, they have to deal with such immensely complicated situation involving countless others……

Oh, i’m definitely looking forward to this. Although Steven and Tavia is not a refreshing couple, the storyline doesn’t sound too bad! Hopefully it doesn’t disappoint.

Anyone else looking forward to this?

    • KTVB says:

I’m thinking of giving this one a ago! It has a decent cast although I agree with you that Tavia and Steven aren’t a refresh couple. The time period looks good =]

  • Ri says:

Just caught the first ep and must say it’s nice seeing Steven Ma on tv again! He’s somehow always so likeable and brings such heart to his characters and I hope he does the same with this one! I’m watching Gilded Chopsticks as well and enjoying it so far… it’s been awhile since I could say that about any TVB series let alone two at once! Fingers crossed neither one crashes and burns halfway thru! 🙂

    • Madeline says:

I couldn’t agree more! I love watching Steven Ma on-screen and it’s nice seeing him on again! I wished he would appear more on-screen because I love watching his shows. A superb actor for sure!

    • KTVB says:

Steven Ma is putting on a very good perforamnce in his role as Poon Ka-Yeung 😀 Really likeable character whose thoughts are more modern and open; hence we can relate to. I feel that his back story is quite interesting as well, and he has endured so much pain while he was away from his family; yet keeps all this to himself. Would love to see more of his character develop 😀

  • KTVB says:

I’ve just seen the first 4 episodes and think I will continue with this one 🙂 There is bound to be a lot more bitching going on that’s for sure lol…

The only thing which kind of annoys me is Tavia’s personality in this series so far. She’s over the top righteous and acts quite immature/naive at times (esp around Steven Ma)

Wonder if the “case” will go through the entire series or will it just re-surface later on in the series. I quite like Hong Wah’s role- too bad she was only in the first episode..

    • dongfangguniang says:

I agree with you! I like this series but tavia’s character is really annoying.

    • Ri says:

I KNOW RIGHT, what is UP with Tavia being screechy and generally so immature around Steven Ma. I’m gonna chalk it up to her playing it over the top so that it’s clearer to see her maturity as the series goes on..

Still liking the series so far! This is an interesting time period and also set around a pretty rare profession. Nice that Akina Hong gets such an interesting role tho, always did like her!

      • KTVB says:

Currently up to episode 8 and quite enjoying it so far! Tavia’s character still annoys me when she’s with Steven Ma though. She doesn’t seem like that in front of the other characters!

At first I thought Maggie Shiu was a ‘bad’ character opposing Tavia but turns out she’s a lovely lady indeed. I felt sorry for her when they showed the part how Evergreen broke his promise to elope with her…

  • starocean01 says:

Just caught up with the latest ep. I love Akina Hong Wah’s character here unfortunate she died, really wish she had more screen time.

    • KTVB says:

Me too! I’m always on the lookout for her flashback scenes though ^^

She plays such a strong female character and can be ruthless and manipulative to achieve her goals; but is very loving towards her parents and siblings.

Very interesting character and def one the most memorable of Akina’s roles

      • starocean01 says:

        K have u watched ep15 yet?

        • KTVB says:

Yes I have! Currently up to date 😀 What do you think of it so far?

Btw..speaking of episode 15, that abortion scene (kinda disturbing)…any idea what that metal stick (with hoop at the end) was for…?

        • starocean01 says:

The past couple of eps seemed to move along at a faster pace and Im enjoying it.
That abortion was quite disturbing and I felt soooo bad after watching that scene…

So im assuming that “da toy”(hit fetus) during those times meant using that stick to hit the fetus or…the old coat hangar abortion…

        • KTVB says:

Yea the pace has definitely picked up which is good! I just watched episode 16, now Evergreen is so suspicious! I thought I saw him get a bit anxious in an earlier episode about his 4th brother recollecting his memories, but now it’s obvious he is hiding something. Why do I get this feeling Evergreen is going to turn into a bad person? 🙁 He is such a nice character- hopefully his relationship with Steven won’t turn sour! I hope Evergreen doesn’t have anything to do with his sister’s death and that his suspicious act towards his 4th brother is another secret he is trying to cover up (like one with Evergreen and Maggie perhaps…?)

The abortion scene was disturbing to watch…hmm what’s the coat hanger abortion…?

  • Jessica says:

Who do you reckon was behind poon hau yee death?

    • KTVB says:

haha I’m currently up to episode 12 and at the moment I’m still not too sure…

No one really looks too obvious sticking out like a sore thumb or anything XD but it should be someone in the POON family. TVB can go typical and make it the 2nd Uncle; or Stephen Wong- Although they both acted like the news came to a surprise to them.

Stephen is obviously the one who was having an affair with her (and father of her baby) so it would be unlikely he killed her unless it was an accident…He did seem really sad when he found out she died (think he cried for her early in the series?) But then very soon, he and the 2nd uncle were happily schemeing to take over the Family Business and cause trouble..

Or TVB could make it the 2nd Uncle’s wife who currently does not have too much of a screen time..

      • Jessica says:

        Haha too many ways.
Same i actually was thinking it may have been stephen in the first place but now im not too sure haha~
It is not bad a series as i would have thought and steven ma comeback made it all the more better.. 🙂

  • saomongmo says:

    EPISODE 13!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 🙂

    my favorite ep so far!

    • KTVB says:

haha episode 13 has so much Steven and Tavia love!! XD

Love Steven Ma’s character and everything he did for Tavia especially in episode 13!! It really touched me!

  • Rin says:

I started watching this after I found out you were watching it, K! & cus Steven Ma is in the series heheh. I’m behind in the series, at episode 5, and I’m on the boat with Tavia’s character being so ridiculously annoying and naive and just urghhh. I can’t. If she doesn’t show improvement soon, I’m gonna have to drop this series -_- why can’t she play a more level headed character like in most of her other series?
I know they’re gonna have a love line but I don’t know how Steven’s character supposedly falls in love with a character like that… I need to watch this with my emotional side detached or else I’m gonna scream at Tavia every other scene lol.

    • anonymous says:

I hope you don’t drop this series because of that as it’s a really good series.
Let me just say that you would be pleasantly surprised. In Episode 13, Steven’s character will actually answer your direct question on why/how he’s into Tavia’s character. You’ll understand why her character is like that around him. I think the script is written that way and her character is as such to make the point. Anyways, you won’t get it until you watch that scene.

      • KTVB says:

I felt Steven’s feelings for Tavia kinda just accelerated around episode 12/13 (when the rumours started spreading)!

sigh sigh for Tavia still loving her fiancee so much even after revealing what kinda person he is.

  • crazy -fans says:

/the story is getting more interesting.Steven and tavia a good pair. Will they end up together….Many series they always do not end up as a happy couple???? why why

  • Jessica says:

Woah now the story has a huge turn..
it doesnt seem that stephen is the culprit now although he had the affair. 😮
It now feels as if ka hin the eldest son is behind everything. He now shows his true self.. haha
do you think he was the one who murdered stephen and threw him into the sea?
    this is episode 19.

    • KTVB says:

haha I’m so behind, still up to episode 20! (Just came back from my overseas holiday and have quite a few episodes to catch up on ^^)

I am hoping it’s not Ka Hin!!

  • David KKK says:

Tomorrow night at 9pm 2 chapters will be THE END I’m so excited. I hope the end chapter will be good ending.

  • j00ky says:

This is the best series of 2014 so far on my list
