Official Synopsis

A robbery case subtly interweaves the fate of three strangers, a barrister in a wheelchair KO CHIT-HANG (Roger Kwok), a Hong Kong girl TAM MEI-CHING (Kristal Tin) and District Crime Unit detective CHEUNG LAP-FAN (Ron Ng). Implicated by her gangster boyfriend, MEI-CHING is charged with attempted robbery and is found guilty. Although CHIT-HANG, as the lawyer representing MEI-CHING, fails to exculpate her from the charge, the two fall in love with each other. Gradually, under CHIT-HANG’s guidance, MEI-CHING manages to turn over a new leaf after getting out of the jail. Through his investigation, LAP-FAN learns that, many years ago, he negligently shot and thereby paralyzed a civilian, who turns out to be CHIT-HANG. Instead of bearing a grudge against LAP-FAN, CHIT-HANG turns into his best friend. CHIT-HANG has been abandoned by his family ever since the accident. In order to make a living, it takes him more effort than the others to eventually stand out and become a rising star in the legal profession. Being recruited by wealthy businessmen, MA KAI-YUEN (Louis Cheung) and TO YEE-HANG (Waise Lee), CHIT-HANG often claims victory in lawsuit cases by surprise tactics, helping set his clients free. However, there is evil hiding behind his decency. The more successful CHIT-HANG becomes, the more suspicious LAP-FAN gets. All of them, including MEI-CHING, seem to be trapped in the slowly tightening grip of encirclements one after another, finding themselves on the horns of a dilemma……

I watched the first episode and so far it’s OK.

I find Kristal’s character the most interesting, although she seems a little old for the role she is playing, esp when paired up with Matt Yeung. Ron seems pretty boring like his usual cop roles (although he seems more a amateur cop here) and Roger hasn’t had too much screen time yet. He seems a bit ghostly (only see him in a car driving here and there). I like how the episode ended with Roger appearing on his wheelchair! I wonder what his character would be like!

    • KTVB says:

Just finished watching episode 2 and 3 and starting to like the series more. Krystal’s acting is quite convincing and I think her relationship with ‘Miu Miu’ is very cute. I love learning more about Roger’s back story and it’s so touching and encouraging every time Roger is there to comfort Kristal and give her hope.

Roger’s character is really strange. He seems to have something to hide, or tries to conceal how he really feels. Sometimes he seems geniune, but sometimes he feels fake. Would love to see more of his character.

It’s sad Kristal ended up going to jail- injustice once again! but that should be a really big wake up call for her..can’t wait to see what else will happen!
Ron’s character is once again playing a average character.

    Episode 4-5

I feel really sorry for Kristal- she keeps getting accused and with injustice brought to her. She’s in jail for something she didn’t do and now she’s getting bullied in prison. When asked to court to answer questions, she doesn’t get taken seriously either. Can’t wait to see when all her bad luck goes away and the new life she will lead.

I’m staring to quite like Roger’s character and optimism. The rich guy he is trying to work for/get connections to seems quite dangerous though…hopefully things won’t get too messy down the track when he starts using Roger as his lawyer (if that happens)

Pretty funny seeing Jason Chan’s role here being the snobby-up-himself lawyer compared to his nice lawyer role in “Will Power” ^^

  • KTVB says:

    Episode 6:

Yay Kristal is finally released from Jail! 🙂 Can’t wait to see more of her!

I’m a bit sick of watching that police (Ron’s “brother”) along with that other retired cop. They are both such loser characters. Can’t wait til the truth comes out that they were they ones who shot the politician and that Kristal wasn’t lying. I also find Lisa Lau (that girl who keeps following/bothering Ron) to be quite annoying. Hopefully she’ll become more bearable as the story goes on, especially if she’s going to be romantically linked to Ron.

P.s May Chan is actually quite cute

  • Reed says:

Thx for your posts on this series!

    • KTVB says:

You’re welcome! ^^ Just joitting down some thoughts as I go along. Have you been following the series?

      • reed says:

Yes, but at slower-than-snail speed. 😉 There are just too many things to do in life. It’s nice to read discussions on good or promising series. Thanks again! Sorry for my slow response.

    Episode 8-9:
So epic!!! XD Omg I cant believe I didn’t pick up the clues in the earlier episodes! (The fingerprint evidence he was sent and how Denise kept finding him and giving him more cases) What a shocker when they revealed that Roger was the one who deliberately made Kristal lose and go to jail for money!!! >.< I feel so sorry for Kristal..but I also understand where Roger was coming out. He had his own circumstances at that time; but it’s just sad to think he made her a sacrifice and now she means so much to him! Can’t bear to watch the episode if/when Kristal ever finds out! On the other hand, Roger and Kristal are so sweet together and I’m glad they finally got together. It was annoying watching Roger push Kristal to ‘Vincent’ because he felt he couldn’t give her happiness. I liked that scene Roger stood up for Kristal at their law firm when people started accusing her of stealing. Kristal was so touched yet it pains me to know it’s because Roger feels really guilty deep down instead. The story is getting pretty interesting now and it’ll be interesting to see how Roger’s character will play out. Money vs Conscience. His case (for ‘Marco’) was passed away to Jason because ‘Denise’ fears Roger will blow things up because of his love for Kristal. Somehow I kinda hope it stays that way because we all know Marco is a dangerous person…I doubt Roger will give up that easily though *sigh*

  • KTVB says:

Episode 10: Another exciting episode continuing on with the momentum from its previous episode.

Roger ends up using Ron by giving him a wallet with a tracking device so he could locate the safe House and sell this onto Marco! 0__0 I can’t believe he’s actually doing this for money! I wonder if he really meant what he said about Ron (using him since he indirectly caused his disability) or if he does treat him as a friend >.< I love watching Alvis (Jason Chan) lose to Roger though haha For some reason this series reminds me of "Ruse of Engagement" even though the cast, storyline, theme and everything is so different LOL

  • KTVB says:

Random thought: Does anyone else find Louis Cheung/Ma Kai Yuen 馬啟源 & Waise Lee/To Yi Hang 杜以鏗 quite charming in the series? XD

Well, Louis more than Waise hehe but nice to have some kinda eye candy villains!

  • KTVB says:

    Episode 11

In this episode, Roger decides to expose himself to Waise Lee (To Yi Hang) in hope to build network/connections with him and he uses Ron to get close to Lisa to reach out to her dad. Roger is so proactive, forward and quick thinking, intelligent and knows how climb the social ladder. Pretty sure Waise does some type of dodgey business though… (like Louis does)…hope it won’t drag Roger deeper into dark waters.

I noticed this episode had a lot of sweet scenes between Roger and Kristal..they look so in love that it just puts a smile on my face watching them. Their love seems so simple. Kristal is so happy with Roger she just wants to spend time with him and look after him; doing volunteer work with him, taking care of him at home and helping him out at work. I hope it’s not some foreshadow on what’s to come…

Ron is finally catching on with “Sup Jai” as well. He seems slightly more intelligent in this episode!

  • h.k says:

is this the sequel to last one standing 2008?
    One of my favourite series.

    • KTVB says:

      A friend of mine thought the same but it isn’t. It just happens that Roger’s on a wheelchair again ^^;
This series is a crime thriller and considered as the second Last One Standing <與敵同行> which was pretty good!!

      This story is completely unrelated.

Hi, I love “like the beginning” would anyone care to translate the lyrics in English please?

  • KTVB says:

Just finished episode 25, and with only 5 episodes to go!

I’m not sure I’m a fan of Ron/Lisa pairing. It could be Lisa’s acting, but them “in love” with each other seemed kinda forced and them getting married because of “suicide” seemed…so wrong. I don’t know how to explain it.

I also dislike Ron’s change in attitude and agreeing with Roger’s view of the world. He seems out-of-character to just marry Lisa with his mother’s disapproval. Could this be part of his plan … ? That’s still pretty manipulative though…

I LOL’ed when Roger started getting jealous when Mr. To was giving Ron money and status ever since he became his son-in-law. Roger doesn’t deserve any pity after all his wrongdoings.

  • PandaPaanda says:

WOW, this is the first website that is not insulting Gillian for her looks.

    • KTVB says:

LOL PandaPaanda…haha I don’t like Gillian’s looks..but I think her acting disturbs me more XD

    • Reed says:

I agree with both of you. Gillian is hard to watch. Her face looks awkward. Her acting is not good. They shouldn’t have put her in dramatic scenes. Her voice is unpleasant. Maybe because they write so many whiny scenes for her. The character she portrays is weak, whiny, and not at all interesting. Pathetic, even. Staging a suicide to get bf’s attention? All bc the bf wanted to break up? Imagine if everyone tries to commit suicide whenever a bf/gf wants a break. How many people would be left in this world? lol. What would one have to do if a spouse wants a divorce? What would one have to do to get attention then? They spent a lot of time to show how much Gillian/Lisa is smitten by Funny/Ron. But nearly zero time for Funny liking Gillian. But perhaps no one can like Gillian, so might as well fast fwd thru the whole thing? 😉 Certainly having less Gillian scenes can only help.

I don’t mind an evil Roger/Matt much. But evil Scarlet gets on my nerve. She doesn’t do any “work” herself to get rid of her rich hubby. Relentlessly & furiously nagging Marco to do it for her. Marco’s $$$ isn’t good enough for her. Very yucky. Also find Miu Miu much too loud.

  • DreamChaser says:

Anyone knows the name of the instrumental music piece whenever Roger shows his “sinister” expression? Not the OST.

  • KTVB says:

    FINISHED watching this series!!

    Couple of comments:

Roger- hated his character so much in the end, I laughed when he went crazy feeling betrayed by Kristal lol He is such a twisted guy with twisted thoughts. I loved how Kristal was the one to put him into jail for all that he did. Perfect torture for him. Too bad it was shortlived XD I thought his jail scene in the end was quite creepy. Even though he was in jail, he still doesn’t know where he went wrong/learn his lesson or change. Instead he continues to scheme in jail to ensure he makes the best of his situation, i.e so Kristal still cares for him. urgh. More realistic than him tuning good though.

Kristal- glad she’s finally free from Roger! Sad that she still cares about him though XD I guess he did a lot for her, but his thoughts and actions are just so…wrong and immoral.

Ron- urgh. No surprise he was undercover to get close to Henry To. Even I wasn’t convinced by his sudden change in character. Kiki’s death didn’t have much impact on me. Still do not see love/chemsitry between his pairing with Lisa and didn’t really care about watching this couple.

Lisa- does not look pretty and acting is poor. Never liked her character and disliked how insecure she was; always thinking Ron never loved her and how she blindly believed in her dad without evaluating what was right and wrong. I didn’t feel sorry for her when she was hospitalised though- also kind of glad they didn’t focus or elaborate on her situation much more.

Henry To- loved how he got caught on the spot shooting Scarlet XD Didn’t expect this!

I just finished this series today. I really feel this series is somewhat similar to Last Man Standing. The characters is almost the same especially Roger’s character from this series and Last Man Standing is almost or can say exactly similar. Maybe Amy Wong has run out of ideas on the bad guys character. 😛
      Some thoughts of the characters.
      Roger Kwok’s character
I disliked his character even from the beginning. He always had this sinister smile everytime he get what he wanted and that really gives me a creepy feeling. Although he claimed that he really like Krystal (Tam Mei Ching) but somehow i feel that he was always for himself and not for her. Basically he was using her as an excuse of doing the bad things for Marco and Mr To. Even to the last case, when he decided to co-operate with the police to give information about Mr To, he even ask for the “out of jail” card from the chief inspector. And what reason he gave but again for Krystal. I feel that he is very fake. Even up to the last moment, when he gave in himself, I thought he would repent but i was wrong. He has an ultimate motive which is to have Krystal forgive him. In the first place, I believe Krystal would already forgive him, but from the last few minutes, it shows that he did not repent over all the evil doings that he has done. Really really dislike his character till the end. Having that said, I think that his portrayal as the bad guy succeeded but somehow i feel that his acting is about the same throughout the whole series.

      Krystal
Nothing much comment about her except that he character is somewhat pitiful. First she was betrayed by her first bf (vincent), then roger. although Roger kept on saying the he loved her, but somehow from this entire series, i cannot feel it. All the things that he did is for himself and he is only using krystal as the reason of doing the bad things. As usual, Krystal character is similar to her character from Brother’s Keeeper. Same o same o, always a very “yi hei” character.

      Louis cheung as Marco
Hmm….this character is pretty interesting. Although he is a bad guy, but i feel pity towards him for his love for scarlet. It was an unrequited love. His character gave me a feeling that he was a very smart person and although he wasa bad guy, but he treated the people surround him well (Denise and Scarlet). Scarlet betrayed him not once but twice, and yet he still remained faithful and loving towards her. Unlike Roger’s character, in here as Marco, i can really feel his love for Scarlet and that he able to sacrifice everything for the sake of her. compared to Roger’s character, although he too can sacrifice everything for krystal, somehow he always had this “second motive” behind it. At first I thought that he pretended to gone crazy so that he was able to take revenge with the help of Denise. But i was wrong. Next, I was hoping that he will ended up with Denise or have a good ending with Denise, but looking from how Amy wrote the Last Man Standing story, I started to doubt that in this series there will be any good endings. anyway I feel that Louis acting has improved compared to the last few series.

      Leanne Li as Scarlet.
Wow, I never know that she can act as a mean greedy evil mistress. I thought that she loved Marco, but then I was wrong…again. 😛 She only loved status and money. She first betrayed Marco and married Mr To. Then she kept on tempted Marco to have relationship with her and then persuaded Marco to turned against Mr To. At the end, when Marco wants to run away with her, she cold heartedly broke Marco heart again. Although this is another character that i really dislike, but i really would like to comment that her acting has also improved. 🙂

      Ron Ng
His acting is the same year in year out. Nothing much to comment, except that maybe he can act with more feelings and natural. I feel a little bit fake.

Overall, I feel that this story line is a bit “dark”. Up to the last episode, I feel that almost everyone (referring to the main characters) are somehow evil.Maybe fortunately for Ron who nearly make a mistake for not wanting to come to save Mr To when he knew about Scarlet’s scheme. Cause his conscience did ask him to come towards the end and in time to see Mr To shot Scarlet. I thought that maybe Amy could have change the ending a bit. It is too similar to Last Man Standing ending. Maybe she could have give some “sunshine” to the story by having Miss To wake up from comma, or Louis recovered from his craziness or or maybe Roger turned over a new leaf? That would make some difference to this series. 🙂

      • KTVB says:

        Hi faithict =)

It does remind me of ‘Last One Standing’. It’s kinda “dark’ and a bit of a thriller; a good series I enjoyed but prob not one I would choose to watch again hehe

Roger Kwok- I agree with you. That sinister smile is creepy and eerie. I never felt that he loved Kristal that much either and it does feel like everything is for himself. The other creepy scene (well, I know there are a lot of them haha) was when he manipulated and tricked Kristal into thinking how much he loves her after she found out the truth about him putting her in jail (the whole chasing after her down the stairs and uploading the youtube account =.= What luck does he have? seriously…)

Kristal- always seem to play character’s that is ‘Yi hei”- I like though haha.

Louis- yeah!! I seriously thought he was only pretending to be dumb and had more evidence against Mr. To, but I was fooled. Too good to be true… ^^; I really liked Louis’ character- prob my favourite in the series. I really admire how well he treats those around him; esp his love for Scarlett. Sad that he had that kind of ending..

Leanne-haha yeah her character came off to be a bit of a psycho. At first I thought her character was quite likeable etc and then she turned weird ever since trying to hook up with Marco again. And then she did creepy things like bruise herself to trick him in thinking Mr To did that to her. Like..really? lol Maybe its cos they didn’t show Henry treating her so badly beforehand..makes me wonder if he really did beat her up etc Also, unless their house is really big and soundproof, surely Henry’s daughter would hear them if he was beating up Scarlett…

Yea the ending isn’t bad, just similiar feel to Last One Standing

  • Jessica says:
