[Message from K] May 2012

Hi Everyone!

How are we all…? hahah. How’s the world of TVB been for you guys? Or out in the real world? ^^
Just wanted to drop by a note to let you guys know I’m alive and well. Despite my decreases in blog updates, I do visit quite often to check up on you guys 🙂

While it is a little late on my behalf- I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate MetalAZNWarrior (from TVBMusings) and TkN (Nhi) on their engagement (my two good online TVB Blog buddies)!!!! For those of you who were around a few years back on the TVB blogging community would have known them. While they both no longer run their TVB blogs,  it was TVB which brought them together– so sweet!! <3  So happy for them!!
Selena Li & Kevin Cheng in Gloves Come Off

The last message I’ve left for you guys was December 11! It’s quite scary how time flies and in a few day we’ll be in June 12 already! That’s almost half a year 0_0 I think most of us would agree that TVB hasn’t been that great to us in 2012. Most of the series have been so-so, which is unfortunately one of the main reasons I’ve been blogging less. I’m starting to lose the passion to blog because of the series..hmm hopefully something good will come up soon!

Those who follow me on facebook would know which series I’ve been watching since I post up a screencap up after each episode I watch. So for those who want a more real-time update, please follow us on facebook! 🙂

During my absense from TVB, I’ve started and caught up to date all 7 seasons of ‘How I Met your Mother’. I don’t normally watch American TV (since I’m quite a loyal TVB watcher), but my lack of interest in TVB lately has turned me to better things XD Such a contrast to TVB..haha but I love….wait for it.…..Barney Stinson XD Season 7 Finale ended with a “woah”– can’t wait to until more episodes come out!! I’ve also started playing Diablo 3 which is bound to only get more addictive! So if you don’t hear from me and TVB..you’ll know where I’ll be lol

Sometimes I wonder if its TVB which has changed, or if it’s actually me and my perception..or maybe both?

Until next time…. 🙂

yaaay nice to know you’re still around ;D I drop by and visit from time to time too. It’s definitely not just you who find TVB dramas pretty “eh..” recently. I haven’t watched many series this year either as they’re getting very tiring and unoriginal. I mainly see the ones airing during dinner time and at the moment its “House Of Harmony and Vengeance”..which is..pretty uninteresting x_x Wonder whats the grand productions this year? Really need a good series to look forward to!

*fingers crossed* for something more promising..

Hi K! Good to know you’re still alive and kicking 😉

Agree with you that TVB has not been very appealing this year so far other than The Hippocratic Crush and Gloves Come Off (which to be honest, I still found hard to watch due to Raymond Wong’s OTT character. Kevin was good tho!) And better late than never for HIMYM, that’s an awesome show! I did feel the recent season was a bit tiring, like it’s going thru a slump but i’m confident they’ll bounce back up soon enough!

I think it’s a mixture of TVB changing and our perceptions too.. like how we’re too used to TVB and all its cliches that things just aren’t fresh anymore. It gets tiring and boring to see the same things play out the same way and it doesn’t help that a lot of the veteren actors are leaving while a lot of the newer ones just aren’t up to standard yet. Nevertheless, TVB will still be a huge part of my growing up years so I’ll think of shows like Rosy Business, No Regrets, and War & Beauty to remind me how great TVB can be when they really try! 🙂

    • KTVB says:

      Hi Ri! =)

Haha I think I didn’t mind Raymond too much because he was an eye candy lol

Without a doubt, HIMYM was like a roller coaster ride- had its up and downs, it generall has a good story line but the story does down hill when they put in those filler episodes (in my opinion anyway)..and there were heaps of them in season 4 which actually slowed down my pace. At first I really liked Ted and Robin! Then it turned into Barney and Robin! <3 I was starting to like the idea of Quinn and then yeh..Season 7 finale had its shock XD Looking forward to Season 8 to see how they can..make the story work lol

ahah yea..sometimes it makes you think its time to move on though..to bigger and better things. Looking forward to the grand productions though!

  • zihwye says:

Let it be love was a freaking SLEEPFEST. i liked Rachel Kan, but seriously the whole show was so lame and i just couldn’t see the point.

daddy good deeds was so overrated. i mean it’s mui siu ching’s last production (also steven ma’s last show with tvb) but seriously it wasn’t half as good as her usual standard (she was the producer behind forensic heroes, 公主嫁到, etc).

i also didn’t like gloves come off, i thought raymond’s experiences were so unjustifed LOL. and actually i heard a lot of people in HK weren’t too happy with Kevin cheng’s acting in here.

i’m struggling to get through House of harmony and vengeance now. i don’t like it when Bobby acts evil tbh. the best thing about the show is the theme song ._.

all in all, so far i only like On Call 36h. with so many actors/actresses leaving tvb and with the standard like that now, i really wonder whats gonna happen.

    • KTVB says:

      Hi zihwye!

I agree with most of your comments..haha SLEEPFEST!! XD

Not sure about Kevin’s performance though- I tjhought he did pretty well in Gloves Come Off- I felt he gave a good performance and chaatcer was very likable. Raymond’s experiences as in how he turned “bad”?

Bobby’s character alays leaves me thikning “what the…” he’s not even a ‘good’ character lol

I can’t seem to see many rising stars..

  • curly.fries says:

How I Met Your Mother is one of the few series I watch outside TVB too! And it’s all for Barney 😀 Can’t wait for the next season.

As for the TVB series so far this year, 4 in Love is actually my favourite. But I guess Jonathan Chik series aren’t for everyone – you either like it or you don’t. By the same token, the first week of Master of Play looks very promising. Be warned though – not for the faint-hearted!

    • KTVB says:

I really like period dramas, but there haven’t been any this year =X I don’t think comedy works well for me either lol

  • faithict says:

Hello K! It is so good to hear from you…Yes i totally agreed that lately TVB does not produced any good series…As far as I can remember the really good ones goes way back 2 years ago, No Regrets.
However I think Daddy Good Deeds turn out pretty well compared to other series in 2012. Yes, it is not one where it has a lot of climax in it…however the story line is heart warming and touching. Something worth while to watch if you are looking for a light hearted series with a few laughs here and there and still see humanity and family love in it…Yes, the storyline centered around family and friends…^_^

    • KTVB says:

      Hey faithict =)

Haha wow No Regrets is already two years ago.. XD I had to think for a bit what grand productions were on last year until I remembered Myolie’s in as Best Actress…lol..

  • 'Muff says:

I liked On Call 36h =) And I’m actually enjoying House of Vengeance haha XD But yeah don’t like it when Linda’s character has her moments =_=

Haha but speaking of American TV, KORRAAAAAA asjkhfhalsdkjhf 8D

    • KTVB says:

ahah the latest episode of House of Vengence & Harmony was very lol on Bobby’s part- how he justdecided to go back on his words..then again, it’s not ike his character was very righteous from the start XD

      Whats Kora about? lol

  • aiMiXue says:

If you were ever a Linda<3Steven fan, you must watch Daddy Good Deeds because this is their last ever collaboration together.

    • KTVB says:

Nope..not a Linda & Steven Ma fan..I will always remember Steven’s great performance in ‘Life and Times of Sentinel’ though!

  • sugar says:

Hey K remember me? Haha, yeah Linda is so unlikeable in the series with Bobby >.< And I'm watching Master of Play, it's quite interesting actually but confusing. And guess what? XD I recently rewatched the second half of Men Don't Cry ahhh ^_^. Ahahaha, I was reading your episodic thoughts along with it. I still love Dayo there<33 And now I'm rewatching You're Hired. Miss Dayo .. he said he'll return to TVB in 2 years, it's been 3 years now.. I guess he's busy with his own stuff but I hope he's doing good ^__^.

    • KTVB says:

Sugar!! Of course I remember you haha we were the supporters of “Men Don’t Cry” XD

I haven’t re-read my episodic thoughts on them in ages… XD ahah but I do remember the second half being better than the first.

Dayo is great- I’m still meaning to watch To catch the Uncatchable XD

      • Sugar says:

Hehe!! Hahaha yeah I agree .. I actually started watching from episode 5 onwards when I watched it for the first time. I don’t really remember what happened in the earlier epis

        • Sugar says:

Woah I accidentally clicked send (I’m on my phone lol) .. Yeah you should watch TCTUC hehe. I watched it a long long time ago! I’ve seen it twice now I believe but I can’t really remember what happened in it haha.

          Take care!!

  • jse says:

K-tvb, do you recognize me, jse from TVB Wonderful Series? I do feel that TVB had drastically going downhill, in terms of its quality of the drama.

And I was captured by Korean drama recently. Haha! Since usually men did not get attracted by Korean dramas. But I did, and I compare it with TVB, and it looks like Korean had done a great job than TVB.

    • JacJac says:

For K-Drama I recommend Queen of Hyun’s Man. I’m watching that drama right now and am loving it. There are lots of good k-dramas. Full House is a must watch for me!

    • KTVB says:

      Hey Jse! Yes of course I remember you! Glad to know you’re still around! How’ve you been? 🙂 I don’t think I can ever go to Korean dramas- probably still to HK or American… ^^;

  • JacJac says:

I agree with you that the tvb series this year are not really interesting. I skipped When Heaven Burns, Let It Be Love, Sergeant Tabloids, and Gloves Come Off so far. I found since 2008, the series starts to get worse.

Daddy Good Deeds, Bottled Passion, and Hippocratic Crush are decent series this year but they are not even great.

Anyway that’s so sweet about the engagement of TKN and TVB Musing.

  • jse says:

JacJac, thanks for your recommendation. I recommend The Moon that Embraces The Sun. It is a great drama.

    • JacJac says:

Haha my friend also recommended me The Moon Embrace the Sun but I’m too busy watching other korean dramas. Probably will watch that if I have time. 🙂 It was Full House and My Girl that got me into Korean dramas.

  • jse says:

So hope you have the time to watch the Moon and the Sun.

    • JacJac says:

Anyway my display name on asianfanatic is TVB Love. The one who also left you comment on your asianfanatic page before. You must be surprised since I used different display name :P. But I always encountered the same tvb fans online cause tvb world is small. 🙂

  • jse says:

Whoa,…. What a small world. Anyway, nice meeting you, JacJac.

    • JacJac says:

I’m onto korean dramas now. I will remember tvb since I watched it since I was a kid but I think Korean Dramas are better than TVB in my opinion. I fell in love with a korean dramas after finishing one. I love Scent of a Woman. Highly recommended for newbies.

  • jse says:

    Thanks for the recommendation.

  • JacJac says:

I guess only new tvb fans or tvb fans who haven’t watched tvb series in the early 2000s or 90s can find this year’s tvb series excellent. eh

  • summer says:

Above all series , i do watch .. just give some opinion on my view to those series :-

L’Escargot: 缺宅男女: BAD ~ totally sigh of Linda character … don’t like the series at all.. watch it in the way of fast forward …

Wish and Switch換樂無窮 : interesting for the first few episode, suddenly b come full and boring and just watch it by fast forward.

Let it Be Love (4 in Love): lol.. wonder what is this ?? not interested at all.. stil watch until finished but feel like for pass my free times ..

The Hippocratic Crush (On Call 36 小時): GOOD … this is the 1 until now for year 2012 , Most Good series 🙂 love Yat Gin Tao and Yu Zai so much.

Queens of Diamonds and Hearts東西宮略: so so ler..

Daddy Good Deeds 當旺爸爸: i can suggest you can watch this.. it’s pretty nice series leh.. should watch .. 🙂

Sergeant Tabloid 女警愛作戰: so so ler.. Mic Tse sometimes so laughing , although he is not as Laughing Gor role..

Gloves Come off 拳王: Quite nice series.. not bad…

House Of Harmony and Vengeance 耀舞長安 : Enjoying now.. Bobby and Myolie is cute.. don’t really like Linda though

Master of Play 心戰 : Temporary now stil enjoy the series .. pretty nice .. like to watch Aimee so much …

  • JacJac says:

I’ll give my opinions what I think of series this year in a quick way. Too lazy to elaborate it.

Good but not great: Daddy Good Deeds, Hippocratic Crush

Okay: Queens of Diamonds and Hearts and Wish and Switch.

    Boring: L’Escargot

I Skipped:Let It Be Love, Sergeant Tabloids Gloves Come Off and When Heaven Burn and eventually No Good Either Way.

I watched the first 2 episodes of Sergeant Tabloids and thought it was boring and random and no plot. Let It Be Love doesn’t look appealing. Not a fan of Chik’s series e.g Dance of Passion, Fly With Me eh.

House of Harmony and Vengeance is okay but got draggy toward the middle.

Master of Play has good storyline but the pace is too slow. Not good enough to get hooked but still passable.

  • ac says:

i only watch halfway through lescargot and i dont mind it but gonna start watching korean dramas

  • Magic says:

I’ll give my opinion on this year’s series as well 😀

L’escargot: I watched the first half of the series but then I went on holidays so I didn’t finish it. Heard it got quite bad?

Wish and Switch: I personally liked this series. It was quite entertaining.

Let it Be Love: I’m a big Charmaine fan but this series… It was really boring.

The Hippocratic Crush: This series was good! The cast performed very well. Kenneth and Tavia had great chemistry with each other 😀

Queens of Diamonds and Hearts: This series had a few funny moments. Found it hilarious when they switched souls. :3

Daddy Good Deeds: A very heart warming series. Last Steven series 😐

Sergeant Tabloid: Watching bits and pieces of this. Don’t find it very interesting (either that or I’m gaming too much too care).

Gloves Come Off: This series is okay so far. Still catching up on it though.

House of Harmony and Vengeance: I really like this series! Maybe it’s because I’ve been anticipating it for a long time. The costumes and dancing is great. Linda’s character isn’t likeable but her acting is quite good. Myolie and Bobby are hilarious in this 😀 I got quite moved when Bobby was in jail. Evergreen’s character gets annoying towards the middle of the series. >.>

Master of Play: Haven’t seen this yet. 😀

  • shan says:

Congrats to metal and Nhi! I used to be a big silent reader of virtuesofharmony and was quite sad that it closed down. I remember reading about their love story on their blogs. I am really, genuinely SO happy for them!

  • Badger says:

I found Gloves Come Off to be the best of the series this year. Hope some of the upcoming shows will be good. Looking forward to Ghetto Justice II.

TVB needs to get its act together with the new TV station in HK. But having said that, it would be difficult to come up with ideas for so many new shows. Completely different to western TV where a series can go on for many seasons.
