[TVB 43rd Anniversary] Gala

The Mysteries of Love in TVB Anniversary Gala

  • I stayed up last night to watch the Gala performance 🙂 I quite enjoyed this year’s performances although I would have liked to see more TVB Artists appear- Sheren, Raymond, Charmaine, Myolie, Bosco, Ron, Kevin, Jessica, Bobby, Selena didn’t appear (just to name a few…hmm that’s a lot!)
  • I found the introduction to the show the best! I loved how they linked various TVB series together with Lak-gor attending the TVB Anniversary Gala show ahah The best one had to be the Mysteries of Love Tavia and “Raymond” breakup scene because Tavia was so in character XD She was  so upset over the missing tickets to the show XD- So cute!
  • I liked the efforts the oldies put into their performance lol I felt embarrassed for them but they tried! The woman looked quite young, especially in their costumes- it was funny to see Susan and Mary dress up and dancing like that haha
  • Moses and Wayne switching over role was a bit lame XD but King Kong as Linda was absolutely hilarious xD
  • I also liked the “Can’t Buy Me Love” vs “No Regrets” rapping competition 🙂
  • I loved “Fuk Luk Sau”s Award presentation~ The clips/photos of the artists and speeches were hilarious. It  was interesting to see some of the artists when they were young, or what they were like when they first entered the industry. Evergreen’s reference to Raymond was so funny! XD
  • We can really see some hidden talents revealed in this Gala performance, e.g Kiki’s voice! I didn’t know she could sing so well~ so impressed!
  • I liked the water dance performance too! (although I think they used the water thing last year too?) It was a bit messy with all the water but I kept my eyes on Nancy, Michael & Grace- they were awesome!! Would love to watch more performances from dancing King and Queen Michael & Nancy 😉
  • Another performance which I think they also used last year was the drumming but that wasn’t as interesting.
  • The martial arts/Kung Fu was interesting too- I was trying to figure out which ones were real Kung Fu and which we just rehearsed moves XD They look pretty convincing to me! The best part was when they used the black background and they had their bodies chopped up and legs blowing around- absolutely hilarious XD
  • I wish they didn’t replace No Regrets..I want to watch episode 25!

Thanks for the sharing of your thoughts! But I beg to differ though. I thought that this year’s anniversary show was the worst amongst all the years. Plus the absence of the artistes mentioned, it wasn’t that spectacular. In addition, I felt that the whole night, they were trying too hard to make Wayne and Moses the attention (when this is not even the awards show yet!). It was just too deliberate and I was really disgusted by that. All the attention was on No Regrets and Can’t Buy Me
Love. What was infuriating is that they did not even mention about Gun Metal Grey at all! Nancy represented her role in NR and Carson CBML but not GMG where they had a bigger role. It’s the anniversary series and… They made it so obvious that the best actor award is not gonna go to Miu or Wong this year. Ohhwell, what can I say. The only thing that impressed me was Kiki’s singing! They surely need to promote such talented people other than their ‘biological’ children, although I know the masses would definitely go for younger and more good looking artistes. And the performances this year were sort of a repeat from previous years with little changes here and there. What was wrong man? Just to add on, Felix was sitting at home watching the Gala, according to his post on Weibo. Was so shocked to learn of that! Thought these artistes fail to turn up because of work commitments. But in the end, its just the company… Anyway, these are just some of my thoughts and feelings after watching the show. Just felt that this company is getting more and more screwed. Nonetheless, I still be a HK series fan an continue to watch the dramas that I grew up with! =]

Thanks for sharing your opinion! I guess I am kinda bias since I love No Regrets to bits and I want to see more of the NR crew.
I did find it strange they made no reference to Gun Metal Grey…looks like they won’t be winning any awards this year.
I’m shocked to hear from you about Felix being at home too! Did he not get invited or what..? What happened to Sheren and Charmaine anyway..?

OMG..I just realised the turn out rate is REAL POOR! 0_0 Here is the list of Nominated Best Actors..- and only Wayne and Moses turned up!!!

      # Ron Ng
      # Roger Kwok
      # Kevin Cheng
      # Joe Ma
      # Raymond Lam
      # Kent Cheng
      # Bobby Au Yeung
      # Damien Lau
      # Bosco Wong
      # Moses Chan
      # Bowie Lam
      # Wayne Lai
      # Felix Wong
      # Michael Miu
      # Steven Ma

Hm…they can’t all be that busy could they? =\ I would have liked to see more of them than misc artists and those voice people..

      • Fatla! says:

Totally agree, that’s a good point! They can’t all be that busy. If I’m not wrong both Sheren and Charmaine has work in the mainland. But people like Roger, Steven, Ron are all in HK cause they’re currently filming series. Really wanna know why they dint turn up..

Chances are that Felix dint get invited? But a lot of artistes that were not involved were seated among the audience. Maybe he decided to stay home. But from my inference from his posts in his micro-blog, chances are that he wasnt invited at all. And that is quite a sad thing. While he is grateful for the company that nurtures him, that same company made him lose all faith in it.

Yesyes!~ Felt that Mag Lam was overly promoted too! Hello, this is a TV station. Not a record company. Anyway, if they dont do these things, it is not the TVB that we know of today..

      • Madeline says:

I think the reason why Raymond Lam and Charmaine Sheh are there because they are filming a series together call the Colorful World of Sister Fa, something like that 🙂 If you check wikipedia and search for List of upcoming TVB series, you can see what TVB has been up to lately.

I agree, I think this year’s gala really lacked star power. So many artistes were missing, usually as many as artistes would turned up and dressed for the event, but this year seemed to be attended by lesser known people. Really strange.

I think the best part of the gala was the beginning with Ah Lek parodying the various TVB series, of course, I especially like the MOL part. Tavia was really funny when she said Ah Lek miscalculated the number of tickets.

  • Ri says:

Always great to hear your thoughts, K! 🙂

SO many stars didn’t attend this year’s gala! I would have thought Sheren and Charmaine would have showed up considering they’re suppose to be the front runners for Best Actress! Hmm. Really lacking in star power. Like no one bothered to show up :/ Maybe it’s because there’s so much hype surrounding CBML and NR that everyone who’s not involved just pales in comparison? Hmm!

But did you notice how prominent Kam Kong (Mukaiyama Tetsuya in NR) and Evergreen was this year? I really hope this doesn’t mean that they’ll win Best Newcomer and Best Supporting Actor respectively :/ Kam Kong is pretty sporting and likable (I probably won’t be able to look at his serious Japanese character in NR the same way again after that Linda Chung parody haha) but isn’t a Best Newcomer award a lil too soon? I’m rooting for Raymond Wong and Pierre Ngo! 🙂

The opening sketch was awesome! At least Charmaine was in that one. Really reminded me of how silly and fun CBML was 🙂 I also liked the “CBML vs NR” rapping and i enjoyed the oldies dancing! Especially Mary who can really shake it! Haha. Kiki was a pleasant surprise, did you notice that she lost so much weight? Looks so much younger and healthier plus that woman can sing! Miles better than Evergreen and Kam Kong of course, though I have to give em credit for trying, hehe.

Fuk Luk Sau is always fun to watch. the Evergreen/Raymond reference was hilarious! There really is a striking resemblance!! 😛

Other observations – the sketch was no good this year! dragged on for too long, imo. and gosh, so many references to Moses’ rumours with Charmaine and Bernice.. but still quite fun to see him squirm his way out of it 😛 Also, Wayne looks really good in his Tak Tak Dei suit! Actually I think he looks really good overall, especially in his Lau Sing gear. probably because he looks good when he’s playing the protective and super cool Lau Sing, hehe.

All in all, better than last year but I enjoyed 2008’s one the best! This year felt weird without the usual stars! :/

    • KTVB says:

Good to hear from you too Ri! ^^

Yea..Kam Kong and Evergreen got so much spotlight o_0 And like you, I hope (esp for Kam Kong) that they don’ take home the awards because I want Raymond to win..I’m a bit 50/50 with Evergreen though. Like most of you guys said, if Evergreen does not win for his role here, he may not get that kind of chance anymore…and Pierre did win it last year. Actually, come to think of it- last year, I didn’t want Pierre to win most improved lol because his character annoyed m like crazy..just hated his character. But he can portray Pai-Kwat (who is completely different to Bit-Man) so well. I think he deserves the award now haha

Yea I liked seeing Charmaine’s appearance in the clip too! 🙂 In the NR time period, I thought it would have bene more likely having Evergreen stick a gun at Pai-Gwat rather than the Japanese guy haha but that “series” was most out of character.

Yea Kiki looks much younger and fit! She can sing and had quite a good body figure when she was young haha

I can’t really remember the 2008 Gala performance anymore- was that the one Kenneth and Kenny performed a dance together? lol

  • Cooldudejohn says:

Hmm I thought out of the whole night the intro was the best part! It was creative and I loved how they combined all hose series together! The wet dance I liked 2008’s one and the drumming and martial arts was average to me. It was interesting to see Kiki so fit back then! They even zoomed in on the picture! But this years’ gala was average. They definitely need to big artists to attend!

    • Madeline says:

Totally agree 🙂 😀 yeah the drumming part was kinda boring at first until I see the amazing dancing of Michael Tse and Nancy Wu 🙂

  • Anonym says:

Hi! Do you know where I can watch the TVB 43rd Anniversary Gala? I live in Europe fyi..

    Thank you!
    btw. LOVE your blog!

  • Madeline says:

Yeah who knew Kiki can sing? I hope Kiki can sing future themesongs or sub themesongs for different TVB series. Yeah I didn’t see Raymond Lam or Kevin Cheng or Charmaine Sheh or Myolie Wu or Bosco Wong in the gala, this year’s gala wasn’t as good or was as bad at the gala last year. But I like the intro and I like how they combine the shows together. Also Wayne Lai pretending to be Duck Duck Day (lol it’s the pronouncation) and King Kong preteending to be Sheung Joy Sum 🙂 King Kong is hilarious XD and an ok singer. I enjoyed the rap and feud between Can’t Buy Me Love and No Regrets.

Also Linda Chung is so lucky to be drawn out from the TVB prize thing. 🙂 and Pierre too 🙂

Yeah I like the Fook Luk Sau’s presentation about Evergreen and Kiki 🙂 Young Everygreen is today’s Raymond Lam and Today’s Evergreen is the old Raymond Lam XD Hilarious!

    • Chibi says:

Like everyone else here, I thought the best part was the opening parody clip, it was so cute XD I liked seeing Charmaine there, ahahah but the bets part must go to Tavia who was so emotional and sad not having enough tickets to go to the gala..ahahaahha XDDDD Awesome.

The rest of the show was bland and not very interesting… I think Evergreen and King Kong got too much attention, and the whole emphasis of either Wayne/Moses getting best actor was a bit overdone. Teasing Moses about Bernice and Charmaine is getting really old too. XD

      • Madeline says:

        lol yea

Also I realized it’s not King Kong it’s Kong King XD

Yeah nice to hear ur thoughts you really have a point.

I also like the Chui Cup may yo yuen was funny. Zhen Zi Wei was so funny, he’s dressed as a girl. Moses was funny because he wanted his eyes to be more bigger and his smile to be more wider XD Laughing Gor was funny because he wanted to laugh more but realizes he doesn’t need it XD after looking at Zhen Zi wei 😛 The most funny one was Wong Cho lam because Zhen Zi wei was like oh I know what’s wrong with you and then like they stretch him out and they said something about Chen Fa La as in Fala lmao. And Wong Cho Lam came because he wants to get shorter 😛

      • Madeline says:

And also what’s with the Lady Gaga thing in one of the performances, like Lady Gaga is goin gaga but it’s insulting for Asians to make fun of her. However, I find it funny lol.

        • Chibi says:

How is it insulting for Asians to make fun of her? I actually think they’re just riding on Gaga’s current popularity and just making a parody. If anything it seems more like a compliment for her

        • Madeline says:

never thought of it that way…Well we have different opinions

  • Fiona says:

95% of TVB’s well known artistes were missing from this year’s Gala O.O That’s crazy, it just made the show that much more boring, but yea!! My favourite part was the beginning w/ Lek Go and the other people from the dramas! hahahaaa

I think this years gala was one of the most boring, main reason is because there weren’t many stars there -.-

  • hannah says:

kiki totally stunned me! she sang really very well! 😀 😀 and lol, she used to look so sexy before she became plump. that pic of her in a bikini was totally stunning! XD why did she grow fat lol?

    • Chibi says:

haha it’s quite normal for most people around her age to be bigger than when they were young 😉 Plus Kikki lost a lot of weight recently for her marriage so she’s still in good shape 🙂 She sang really well indeed, hehee

  • faithict says:

I just finished watching this…The opening parody clip was the most interesting part of the entire show…it was hillarious for Nat to go from one series to the other series putting in lines connecting to tvb 43rd anniversary.. like everyone i think that is the best part of the show…it is sad to see so many major artists missing in this show…

I really enjoyed the rap feud between casts from no regrets and can’t buy me love…i was looking forward to hear Linda do some raps but i guess she was not given any lines…On the side note, I was really surprised to see how similar Evergreen when he was young) and Raymond..:)

It seems like Kiki lose a lot of weight…guess it is for her upcoming wedding…I like how Wayne –> duk duk dei while Moses –> Chai Kua..i think both of them are not that good pretending the other character BUT it was hillarious!! 🙂

    • faithict says:

Oh one more thing, I realized they did not mention anything about Gun Metal Grey or have any characters appearing in the show..is that right or did i miss some parts?

      • Chibi says:

You are correct. Gun Metal Grey wasn’t given any attention or mention during the 43rd Gala and there’s reports in the media right now about the main leads Felix Wong and Michael Miu being angered over this. Apparently none of the cast were invited to the event, and Nancy was there to represent her role in No Regrets instead.

  • wewah says:

    Dear K

I couldn’t agree with you more, how i did enjoy the gala but wish that they would still show episode 25.

This year gala, i do find it one of the better ones, compared to the previous year i find it too much dancing and this year has more skit. I do agree that it was focus on too much Moses and Wayne, and left out the other series. This is a birthday and not a best actor promotion. We can’t blame Felix for being upset with TVB. A series should all have equal chances and not because it has biological son/daughter it gets promoted more. They all are working for Tvb, they should all be valued. Best acting award should be based on acting and not be based on relationship.

Speaking of unfairness, Lee Tim shing also said Tvb was unfair with the rating due to time the series was broadcast. He could not do anything about it because, once the series was done filming, the series belongs to TVB and he have no say to when the show would be aired. Tvb once say would give the series 9:30 time slot but later changed to 8:30, it did affect the rating because, people could not rush back in time to watch the series. With the tragic era, people already had doubt in watching it and with bad timing, for sure they did not want to put in the extra effort.

I think No Regret is excellent and should get series of the year, sheren for best actress. If these award is not given to the deserving one, i have doubt about watching next year award ceremony.

  • Eva says:

the water hip hop dance was similar to the one in 2008, where they have kate and michael to lead the dance! anyway, love the whole gala performance. i agree with you, this year’s beginning was the best one!

  • Taco says:

hey, does anybody know where i can watch this on the internet? thanks in advance! =D
