I’ve just finished watching the movie last night and found it quite entertaining 🙂 As most of you probably already know, this movie was released during Chinese New Year in February earlier in the year and now available on DVD!

The highlight in the series was definitely the cameo appearances of the many many TVB artist! Special mention to Bernice Liu & Ron Ng’s look in the series! They were a total crack up! I really liked the 1960s scene at the start of the movie too- Charmaine’s portrayal as the landlord was entertaining!

72 Tenants of Prosperity

  • Themesong: Happiness Every Year (歡樂年年) Cantonese | Mandarin
  • Camero Appearances 1 2

Extract about the movie:
An homage to the 1973 Shaw Brothers classic House of 72 Tenants, the 2010 all-star comedy 72 Tenants of Prosperity packs in well more than 72 stars into its hilarious lineup. Leading a huge ensemble cast of over 100 actors, Jacky Cheung and Eric Tsang feud away as immature rival shop owners, with Anita Yuen, Stephy Tang, and TVB stars Bosco Wong, Linda Chung, and Wong Cho Lam playing their family members. Familiar faces and distinctly Hong Kong humor occupy every corner of the movie, making 72 Tenants of Prosperity the perfect successor to the film that inspired it, and to the Lunar New Year comedy tradition.

Kung (Eric Tsang) and Kin’s (Jacky Cheung) rivalry goes way back to the seventies when they fought over the same girl, who eventually became Kung’s wife (Anita Yuen). Now they run competing phone stores right across from each other on Mongkok’s busiest street, and stretch their minds trying to outdo each other with crazy promotions. There’s absolutely no mixing with the enemy in these parts – until Kung and Kin’s kids fall for each other! Further chaos breaks out when the landlord triples the rent of all the shop owners to force them out for redevelopment.

A joint production from Shaw Brothers and TVB directed by Eric Tsang and Patrick Kong, 72 Tenants of Prosperity features many, many Hong Kong celebrities in supporting and cameo roles. TVB sent out practically the station’s entire roster of artists including Raymond Lam, Fala Chen, Ron Ng, Myolie Wu, Bernice Liu, Charmaine Sheh, Kate Tsui, Michael Tse, Sunny Chan, Kevin Cheng, Lawrence Ng, Joe Ma, Kenneth Ma, Derek Kwok, and Joyce Tang to name a few. And everyone from singers Justin Lo, Fama, Andy Hui, and Denise Ho to actors like Lam Suet, Gordon Lam, Dicky Cheung, Nat Chan, Sam Lee, Maggie Siu, Wayne Lai, and Prudence Liew show up for a Mongkok stroll. Even Kelly Chen makes an appearance as herself. Catching all the cameos and references in 72 Tenants of Prosperity could be the ultimate test of your Hong Kong pop culture knowledge!

hahaha love! I’m definitely getting the DVD!! *orders from yesasia* ^^ I saw this movie twice cause it was so hilarious XD

I loved seeing Bernice Liu as this macho/ugly/demented fishball seller and Ron’s nerdy looks was hilarious! I too enjoyed the 1960s beginning with Charmaine stealing the spotlight.

Myolie’s appearance at the end with Bosoc was priceless!!! ahahaha…

Bosco: “The Myolie I know isn’t like this” *stares at her chest* AHAHAH!

    Only wish was Stephy Tang was replaced by another actress, I don’t like her very much ^^;

    • KTVB says:

hahah that’s the fun element- mixing in actors playing as themselves!! And you can tell they’re implying that Bosco knows Myolie really well “You think I WOULDN’T KNOW what Myolie looks like?” XD And then “hm…actually, maybe not”

I agree about Stephy- they seem to have left the more major roles to Movie stars: Eric Tsang, Jacky Cheung, Anita Yuen & Stephy Tang

i watched this movie too! i loved linda’s fighting scene XD *fingers up nose*

    • KTVB says:

haha that was funny and gross at the same time! It was cute they made Linda fight like a video game character (her punches etc looked so weak yet had such impact lol). Other funny bit was watching Laughing-gor get freaked out and asking “who’s your master” when Linda raises a photo of Ip Man XD

  • Jenny says:

Oh, I’ve been so excited about this ever since I heard they were filming it.. Yet, I still haven’t had a chance to watch it!

Should be interesting spotting all the familiar actors and singers 😀

    • chibi says:

haha yes it is! But you have to be quick though, some of them only appear for a split second (some don’t get a line XD)

      • Sharon says:

Yes indeed. Especially the part where they were singing this song by Sam Hui. You see many familiar faces and it’s so fast XD

        • KTVB says:

haha yea..and I think only some of the singers just appear for that bit? i.e Andy Hui/Denise Ho/Vincy?

  • rachel says:

man, i’m so slow, i haven’t even watched this yet except for like ten minutes somewhere online hahaha gotta watch this soon cause i’ve heard so much about it already!!!

It’s such an entertaining movie! I loved the “buying phone scene” where all the girls come and serve him, Linda and Wong Cho Lam’s lift scene was funny, Jacky imitating himself by singing and the end where Bosco and Cho Lam are singing together. There are so many funny scenes. Oh and how could you forget Eric trying to say in english “Try your best”? I loved how most people got a cameo in the movie. Very refreshing.

    • KTVB says:

LOL the sales-staff really try hard to make those sales!! HAHA Cho Lam’s team seems to have the upper hands with prettier girls and all. The toothpaste/icecream (can’t remember the other one) were gross!! lol

Jacky imitating himself was hilarious!! I loved how he spun around and all XD

Oh oh! And when Anita and Jacky bumped into each other at the food place!!

  • Tommy says:

I thought the hospital scene with Jacky and Cho Lam was extremely funny when Cho Lam pressed stopped on the recorder and told his dad to stop singing haha

    • KTVB says:

I LOL’ed when Jacky was singing with such emotions etc haha

If its what I’m thinking..is that also Jacky Cheung’s voice-over when Wong Cho Lam starts to imitate? XD

Speaking of voice-over, it was also funny to see Justin get dubbed with Eric Tsang’ voice! lol

      • 'Muff says:

        Really?
I thought it was Cho Lam himself singing 😀

        • KTVB says:

I can’t tell since Wong Cho Lam is pretty good at imitating too but that sounds exactly like Jacky Cheung lol (except without the music) XD

        • Tommy says:

Yeah at first I thought it was Jacky singing over Cho Lam, but after rewatching the scene a few times I think it is Cho Lam himself lol

  • 'Muff says:

    Coincidentally, I watched this yesterday!
    It was so funny XD

  • DrB says:

  • Justvb says:
