[Phoenix Rising] Episode 5

Another interesting episode =) The truth finally comes out…

As I had hoped, the fat women did become friends (to some extent) with Louisa and helped her when she was getting bullied but it didn’t last long because the fat women had to be executed. While I watched the series up till now, I always had thought that this women seemed to see things quite positively, especially the part where she was happily writing the list of food she wanted to eat for her last meal. We find out that she is actually a “Tai Sei Gwai” – in jail because she is taking the place of someone else who had committed the crime. On the actual day of execution, she suddenly feared death. She didn’t want to die, and kept on yelling out that she was innocent, only a “Tai Sei Gwai” but of course, it was too late then.

Louisa becomes horrifying, hearing her scream and when she heard the sound of execution, she imagined herself to die the same way.

Lousia begged Krystal to find a person like that for her (even attempting to commit suicide if she didn’t) so Krystal ends up agreeing but Leila ends up finding out their plans. Leila ends up talking to Jack about her worries and Jack figures out a way that may help her.

Jack, as the doctor, comes in with Leila and Krystal (Louisa is lying injured in bed) and they show her a “truth or lying” machine. I was quite impressed they had a technology like that then already and they said it had scientific backings that the machine works and usable in court. On the back of my mind, I was thinking- well if such thing existed, court trials would be so much easier, wouldn’t they? Where is it nowadays though? Turns out that the machine was actually fake and was only used to lure Louisa into telling the truth. After a test run, asking what her name was and it turned red/green, Louisa refused to use the machine, thinking it was real and ends up telling the truth.

When she was little, she became very sick with a high fever but her adopted parents refused to take to her the doctors. It turns out that they had only adopted her to help them take on all the bad luck they were meant to face instead. Their room was already filled with those superstitious stuff. Louisa had heard their conversation and eventually faints on the ground. When reaching out helplessly, they continued to let her be. From that point on, she knew that the parents didn’t love her and she was on her own. Luckily she eventually recovered from her fever. When other kids used their money to buy toys, she secretly bought medicine to stock up so that she could take them if she ever got sick again. She wanted to live. When everything was fine, Louisa’s parents would buy her things, so that others thought she was living a happy life, including Krystal (whom the two had still kept in contact with). However, when she went to school, they stopped her from making friends and constraining and controlling her life. It wasn’t until one she grew up and eventually met Ben and the two fall in love. He was a rich man’s son who was giving Louisa’s adopted parents lots of business, so they didn’t go interfere with their relationship and let the two date each other. After dating for several years, the two wanted to get married, but her parents started getting worried again. They didn’t want her to marry because she was used as their decoy for bad stuff.

Eventually, because of their greed for money, the two decided to let the marriage go ahead. We then what has happened in the first episode. On their wedding day, a bell falls on Louisa’s mother’s and she falls back and injures her leg. The parents believed it was wrong to let Lousia go, so she suggested to delay their wedding until her leg was healed, but it turns out that her leg had already healed a long time ago and was only faking it so Louisa would not be allowed to marry him. Louisa also hears all the bad, false lies her mother was telling the doctor about Krystal(who was the nurse there) and became really angry. At the end, she pushed her down the stairs, where the other nurse had seen.
After her story telling, she finds out that the machine was a fake and she gets extremely angry at the three..
At the end of the episode, Ben comes back to see her..
