Synopsis
Martial arts expert NIP DOR-PO (Steven Ma) joins the Imperial Guard in an attempt to speak up for the people. He is under the command of PRINCE YUE, FOOK-CHUEN (Kenneth Ma), whom he becomes very good friends with in the passing of time. Later, on CHUEN’s recommendation, he becomes the personal guard of CHUEN’s younger brother Emperor HONG HEI (Power Cham). But I believe Kenneth will be the main villain of this show so it’s quite interesting to see after watching how evil he was in Grace Under Fire. I’m sensing he’ll be evil in The Other Truth as well. I’m sensing that Kenneth is receiving lots of evil roles in 2011 and so far, he’s doing really well. I also realize Kenneth is being paired with Natalie again from The Other Truth and this show.
And I agree with misstila :D, it’s been quite a while since I’ve seen Steven Ma on screen ever since he acted on Ghost Writer and I’m looking for his acting in this show as well. I noticed that the songs Steven Ma sung for this show and Ghost Writer are pretty similar yet they both sound really good. It’s my opinion though lol.
Judging by the poster of this show, I believe Kenneth and Steven Ma are going to be enemies. And there will be alot of dramatic scenes between some female leads such as Selena Li and Natalie Tong.
I watched the first episode and I gotta say it’s pretty good, this episode is basically introducing the characters and their backgrounds. I hope this show gets dramatic and not a disappointment 🙂

I like how this series is progressing! Expecting alot more ammunition as it builds up to the climax. Kenneth is doing exceptionally well in this villian role, and sometimes I cant help but to pity him. Its not like he isn’t capable, but his grandmother is just too prejudiced!!
I agree!!! I hate the grandmother, she’s so mean to him!! (Although she is pretty right about seeing what type of person he really is XD). The scene where Kenneth started crying, and having that “deep” conversation with his grandma was lovely lol What he said was so touching! (he’s so good with al this scheming! lol
I am really into this series now. It seems really good and I like both the main characters atm. Especially kenneth even though he is evil. How do u think Kenneth and Steven will fall out?

I think Steven will eventually see what kind of person Kenneth really is, and he would side with Power Chan because he knows he’ll make a better king. Power Chan is really kind-hearted and given that Steven will eventually work for him as imperial guard, I think he will develop that kind of bond with him (like Michael Tse in Relic of Emissary). Judging on episode 1, Steven Ma seems appears be on Kenneth’s side and I guess it’ll makes sense after Steven finds out his true identity/past.
I don’t really know much about China’s history, but I’m interested to find out too XD
I did a wiki search on the historical figures after finishing the series, pretty interesting read! Similarilites included Sunny pretending to pass away/becoming a monk- not too sure about the whole will changing thing though.
Hmmm, I seem to see Kenneth everywhere these days. But I like him and it’s good to see Selena back again. I’m glad that Power has gotten a bigger role. Sunny Chan is in this? How come I don’t see him in the poster?
Saw Sunny..lol he plays Kenneth’s father who has passed away, so he only makes cameo ‘flashback’ appearances I believe..lol
I watched the first 5 episodes and am qutie enjoying it! I really like Kenneth’s character- he’s so evil XD XD yet I pity him at the same time..And lookie- Kenneth and Natalie paired up again after “the Other Truth” ended..lol it’s like they’re living another life together again xD
I think Steven has played these type of roles (and genre) so many times his character feels so familiar and likable XD I’m also happy to see Selena 😀 and looking forward to their relationship grow.
I really like Power Chan!! XD he makes such a nice emperor..
I dont know why but I always preferred Steven in costume dramas compared to modern ones. Maybe he has this righteous look, haha!!

yeah they seem pretty interesting and i actually like them as a couple because if you think about it, sure natalie and kenneth match but in this show, i just hate natalie’s character -.- Elaine FTW 😀 and poor Elaine always get misunderstood by her own husband -.- and it’s all because of Grace Wong..
when i watch this show, i thought kenneth is going to be evil but it just doesn’t seem like it to me. Steven, Selena, and Kenneth are both aiming for the same target and getting revenge on Tai Wang Tai How so technically they’ll are in the same team…I wouldn’t consider Kenneth to be evil because he just wanted to get back what was originally his but his grandma only favors Power so this leads Kenneth to use very schemey and evil tricks to get his king position back. I guess he’s just a semi-villain.
I also like how Steven and Selena’s relationship develops, seems like Selena is starting to fall for Steven. And perhaps Steven will fall for her as well 😀 I’ll be rooting for those two 🙂
I really like Steven’s character in the show, he’s really responsible, caring, brave, strong, nice, everything a girl would want in a man xD. I was shock that in less than 4-5 episodes, he soon figures out that his father is the one who couldn’t talk aka the older version of Chris Lai.I’m not sure if that was considered rushed but since it’s almost close to the ending, I guess the guai wo shang have to tell him his real identity before his father passed away. Well it’s almost close to the ending and I’m hoping it’ll end with a plausible ending 😀
Kenneth’s character is “evil” int he sense he would make a very ruthless emperor (as demonstrated already when he was only a kid). That’s not to say Tai Wong Tai Hou has the rights to pick her own emperor though.
Only 5 episodes left!!Can’t wait to watch the rest…Selena’s true identity being the Princess didn’t come to much surprise to me- when her father told her the real one died etc, and Selena was only adopted later, I thought to myself “yea..but you could be lying in order to have the own princess against her family” XD I also had suspicion when they Selena’s father mentioned it would be easy to pass the “blood test” purely because of his connection with one of the imperial doctors. Um, hello?? That’s a huge favour to ask and very unrealistic given they’re taking a big risk if the imperor doctor refused. They used the same ‘formula” in Wax and Wane as well with “Long Long” XD

Overall, the storyline is good but i’m not so impressed with the actors except Steven. I really don’t like power chan acting at all. He is the worst one of all. King Kang hi is supposed to be a talented and smart king in this dynasty. Power didn’t portray it well. the way he act totally ruin this character especially when he crossed his leg when he sit, and hold his hands together most of the time. Gosh it was so annoying.
Other than Selena Li, all the other actresses are bad as well especially Elain liu. She really can’t act.In the part she got miscarriage, she didn’t show the emotions that could make people feel touch.
Anyway, I’m so disappointed with the casts
