When heaven Burns

Synopsis

When YIP CHI-YAN (Charmaine Sheh), LAU CHUN-HUNG (Bowie Lam), SUNG YI-LONG (Moses Chan) and CHENG CHUN-HIN (Kenny Wong) are brought together again by an accident, their lives change irreversibly. YAN is a radio host. She and the other three were members of the same band eighteen years ago. The memory of them playing music together comes back vividly to them, and so does the pain they have all tried so hard to bury. Eighteen years ago her boyfriend, KA-MING, was killed in a hiking accident. Time flies, but she can never forgive HUNG, LONG and HIN for failing to save MING. Nor can she get over MING and start another serious relationship. Although they are sorry to see her getting lost in relationships, they have their own problems to face, too. All of a sudden, the four good friends and the people around them are drawn into a vortex of love they have no control over.

I watched the first 4 episodes and don’t want to continue further..I don’t like the eerie-ness of the series and it make me (along with the characters in the drama) feel a bit dark and lost. I can see why TVB would receive complaints from HK citizens (especially when it explores themes like that xD).

Interesting concept TVB- but a bit gross lol

I think I’ll just leave this series for now, unless I hear awesome revies on it later on XD

    what are your thoughts?

I actually like it. It’s nice to see a TVB series that is dark. It’s a totally new concept and genre that the HK audience are seeing so the complaints are expected, but I’m actually really liking it. I love how all the actors have different character roles (i.e. Charmaine with the dark, serious, sad, angry and emo looking character while Maggie has the silly, young and naive character). I find this series really refreshing. Also, although it’s about cannabilism, I watch it with that thought in the back on my head, and as far as I can see it, it’s like a background theme/story, not the main one. But like I said, I find it really refreshing and something new from TVB, which is great, because I’m getting sick of the usual TVB series that just bore me as they’re so similar and predictable. Nice to see TVB trying something new.

p.s. I think the acting so far is superb as well.

Ditto that. Its not the everyday genre that u would expect, and understandably not everyone’s cup of tea (as compared to dramas like forensic heroes. was that the reason why it took tvb 2 years to air this after filming wraps up..)

But as viewers of HK dramas mature, I think its fantastic to see TVB exploring more of such themes instead of the usual stereotypical type of dramas. TVB has to break out of the very safe restrictions they have set for themselves, being the leading industry player. Afterall from next yr onwards they are definitely going to face fiercer competition and churning out the usual dramas are not going to get them far anymore.

Back to the show, solid acting so far, and I like the consistency of the show (i.e. it keeps me in suspense and wanting more!). And K, I actually do feel every bit as dark/lost as the characters too, which is probably why I like the drama because it touched on a raw nerve that everyone has but try so hard to conceal it in our everyday lives. I think it says alot about the quality of the drama if it makes people relate to it and yet feel uncomfy. Quite an original drama I would say.

I don’t really like it. It kinda got the “fly with me” feel. I hope this is not as disappointing as fly with me. But I’m still tuning in to see if it gets better

  • rachel says:

i’m actually too scared to watch this because i have a super weak stomach and just watching the promos and pictures of it…i’m already a bit freaked out…and this type of genre just isn’t my style…i don’t like the dark, mysterious eery feel with all the killing and goriness…and it’s too depressing for me to enjoy if i were to watch it hahah

  • karened says:

Wait. Did I just read ‘cannabilism’?

  • Awso says:

Does anyone know the name of the song that ronnie gave hazel to broadcast? i like the song that they play as an instrumental in the background.

I have watched up to episode 18. I watched the preview clips and the pace of the show is slower than I expected. I think it is slightly dragging, though I really love the theme of the show. I believe it is adapted from a book Alive: The story of Andes survivors, in which a group of people resort to cannabalism to stay alive in the mountains after a plane crash at the Andes. The scary and gruesome level is quite minimal in my opinion and resolves around more about the emotions of the characters and the case. I feel there are lot of subplots that could be condensed and focus more of the interactions of the main characters. I do realize there are still more than 10 episodes left but….

  • River says:

So far this series is really slow. It needs to get to the point already. After watching up to episode five I thought I would continue watching so maybe it would e more interesting…still dumb so far. I think it’s just the concept of the movie is dumb, not a matter that it is different from the usual themes. I do not recommend this movie to anyone. One of the worse films so far, and sadly it thinks it can attract viewers because of the actors. Wrong!

  • TVBaddict says:

omg this series is amazing… seriously it’s so dark but light at the ame time.. it has such a meaningful story line that captures betrayal, love and desperateness so well! it’s not like all the other drama TVB put up… it’s so different.. don’t get me wrong, i like to watch the typical tvb drama aswell (things like forensic heroes…. cant buy me love..) but this is so different… i hate the fact that tvb put this drama on hold for like 2 years -.- the controversy among this series is so ridiculous… lets say they baed it on beyond’s tragic death but it’s not like they were usig it disrespectfully… and im sure tvb put out series with even MORE gruesome things than cannibalism… like getting sister fa pregnant with raymond.. that’s just wrong o.O

  • CHOO says:

wATCHED BITS AND PIECES and now going back to start from episode 1 again. Sitting through the whole thing.

It is good. Definitely not a “si nai” series…..Makes you think a little and by HK TV standard it is definitely a dark series….comparable to the recent movie- Girl With Dragon Tattoo.

  • 12345 says:

I just finished the series and i really liked it. I agree it did take some time to get into the good stuff but once you are into it then it is so interesting. I just thought the ending was a bit weird and i didn’t not get it 100%. Karma didnt really affect Moses that much compared to the other two which i thought was unfair. it was also surprising to find out that Charmaine played a little part in Ka Ming’s death. This is a very unique TVB series and we might be seeing more of this kind of drama. Overall it think it is a amazing series.
