Synopsis
YUNG SHING-FUN (Lau Siu Ming) and his cousin MAN WING-CHEONG (Chow Chung) have been at odds for years, over the trade name rights of their family’s noodle shop.
YUNG YI-TSUN (Roger Kwok ), FUN’s eldest son engages in a property development project in order to solve the problem. Unwillingly, he offers to buy out the location of CHEONG’s noodle shop with his company’s shares. He also invites CHEONG and his son, MAN KA-FUNG (Sunny Chan), to join the company’s management.
TSUN actually has ulterior motives for doing this, as he hates FUNG to the core for marrying his girlfriend KO WAI-TING (Kwok Siu Wan). On top of this, TSUN’s younger brother, YUNG YI-HANG (Ron Ng), is going out with CHEONG’s second daughter, MAN KA-FU (Kate Tsui), regardless of his family’s opposition.
Now, TSUN is at his wits’ end as he has to handle his family issues single-handedly. He never understood what family ties really meant, nor had he the courage to try to find it out, until now.

is it just me or have i not seen sunny chan in a super long time? roger kwok too. ive been looking forward to this show for some time now cos of ron ng (well i also looked forward to yes sir no sir but that was… a complete disappointment). so, yay! i think two awesome shows are currently showing, so hopefully the next ones won’t disappoint too.
yeah i haven’t seen roger kwok for a long time ever since Show me the Happy. especially sunny too.

I have to say after watching the first episode, I can tell this is really going to be a good story plot, no doubt! I enjoy watching Roger Kwok the most, his character seems to be really unique and “koo”. I also like watching Ron Ng in this series too, it’s better than he’s in Yes Sir Sorry Sir.
here we go again, similar plot to heart of greed/moonlight resonance + selling noodles instead of abalone/mooncake. but then i do like these kind of revenge themed series lol

yeah now that I think of it, it’s more like moonlight resonance and how two families are rivals and at the end will eventually get along. And Ron and Kate’s characters are like how Raymond and Linda were back in Moonlight resonance, very similar

I like the premise and it looks exciting I’ve watched the first couple of series but it is irksome everything is so over the top and not in a good way! Most acting is OK is a bit hammy but those sunglasses doesn’t not add anything to Roger’s character but make him look like an idiot – disappointing so far. Sure wear them outside but in a board room when you are signing contracts – please! I will stick with it as I like the actors but Roger and Sunny better speed up fleshing out their super one dimensional characters!
I agree with you…I saw the first three episodes and still not finding myself impressed at all…I’m not sure why. I normally like these kind of series, but their arguing is over-the-top. They keep shouting and it annoys the heck out of me (esp Sunny and his dad). I have a rough idea on the family structure and appear to have heard both sides of the story yet I can’t seem to side with either.. (I couldn’t care less…) At this point I don’t particularly like any of the characters either *sadface*. I think its hard to like a series when you don’t like any of the characters or can’t feel a connection to it.
At the moment I feel like giving up on this series, but it’s 30 episodes and semi-grand production which is getting alot of promotion in HK…
I wonder if the series will get any better..and if I should bother to continue on.

haha it’s obvious Roger likes Kate..and I quite like watching the two together- kinda cute.
It’s clear that Roger cares about her a lot. They’ve also hinted in many ways that “the two look compatible together/mistaken to be a couple” (when trying on the wedding dress; the 5% change of two people fated to be together when being at the same place/time without knowing one another; and the fact that both Ron and Roger like the same type of girls~
The two have developed a really good understanding of each other which I really like! Personally I prefer Roger over Ron haha although I don’t think they will end up together.
I wonder if there’ll be any more Roger x Kate scenes hehe

Does anyone of you have a sneaky suspicion that Derek Kok and Claire Yiu are actually husband and wife, not brothers and sisters in the show?
hahah I had that suspicion too! I felt that Derek loved his sister obsessively; but it could also just mean they are really close; he doesn’t have many friends/family here so is extra protective over her. He even kept a photo of the three of them in his wallet, looking liek one family. Since they were really close; it could come out as jealousy after Claire married the rich/old guy and she gave him less attention; hence he feels cut. It would appear as though he took Claire away from him.
Earlier in the series, he threw his phone away when she wasn’t going to spend his birthday with him- I was a bit shocked by his reaction back then already lol
In episode 15, Derek becomes so upset about her that he started crying… He started to tell Sunny about his “ex-girlfriend, and how she married a rich old man..” I was quite shocked by his confession.. BUT! When I sit back and think about it…I don’t think it makes sense that they are ex-lovers because Claire looks like the really innocent type who doesn’t know how to lie… Plus, I think it’ll be a bit weird if Claire and Derek were lovers and were only pretending to be siblings..especially when they live at the same place??? It’s so ODD! So my current conclusion is that Derek lied to Sunny, referring to her as “Ex-lover” only to hide the fact he’s upset about his own sister….hm…
Oh..who knows..hahaha anyone have any ideas to share? XD
but like in the earlier episodes, remember how Derek and Claire had a short conversation and Derek saying that how long are we gonna keep up with this and then Claire was like can we just wait a little longer and stuff like that when Derek mention to move out with Claire and her son. Plus Sunny said that Derek’s nephew looks like him in a way when looking at Derek’s wallet. But here’s what i think, feel free to give me your opinions.
I think Derek and Claire pretended to be siblings because like both of them said, they were very poor in the beginning and they don’t know what to do and without Roger’s dad in the show, they wouldn’t have money and stuff. Plus, like what Derek said earlier, he said he had to depend on his own sister which means Claire to live in a nice apartment and stuff. And without Claire married to Roger’s dad, then Derek wouldn’t have a job at Roger’s dad’s noodle company. Probably their choice of being siblings was their decision so Derek can stay close with Claire and her son Yee lung which can also be Derek’s son.

It also reminds me of when Claire’s husband bought them a new place and Claire seemed a bit hesitate to move over, but when he mentioned asking her brother to stay with them too, she agreed XD hehe

But I think Derek and Claire aren’t really considered as cons since they never wanted Roger’s dad’s money and luxury, all they wanted is to have some money and live their lives that’s probably it.
And remember when Yee lung, the son, was sick and so Derek, Yee lung’s so called uncle wanted to pick him up but then the school’s security said no, only his mom or dad have to pick him up and Derek was a bit frustrated that he couldn’t pick up his own nephew. And so Derek had to take Yee lung to the hospital along with the school security. During that scene, Claire finally came and Derek was like so angry with her and told her how can you abandon your son like that and stuff. I mean I understand that he should be worried for his nephew but not that worried as if Yee lung is like his son.
and I guess that Derek regrets his decision for letting Claire be with Roger’s dad while he gets a good job position at the noddle company and pretends to be Claire’s older brother.
I managed to continue watching the series and up to Episode 15 now! 🙂 I’m starting to really like the series because the relationships are improving XD
I really like Roger’s character (and watching Kate change him). I can tell he really likes her hehe
I really feel sorry for Roger’s mum- she’s a really nice lady and its comforting to see her children love her so much, is on her side (esp when it comes to standing up in front of their father) and is always wanting to protect her. I hope she’ll get a happy ending..
I don’t feel much for Ron’s character. He still appears quite immature and naive a lot of the time. Ron and Kate seem like a lovey dovey pair though- I wonderif there would be any obstacles in their relationship (other than family objectsions given they pretty much have their blessings now)

And I totally agree with you, Roger’s mom have sacrifice a lot just to have a happy family but Roger’s dad doesn’t seem to realize much and care much. I really hate Roger’s dad in the show too, he seems a bit selfish cheating on Roger’s mom.
I also like Toby in the show,she’s one big eater 😛 she can even eat a whole cake lolz, although i know she can’t eat a whole cake in real life :P. And it was sad to see that Him only treated Toby as his “buddie” and Toby was rejected by “Him”. Probably there will be a twist when Him actually likes Toby :D. I think Toby and Him make a cute couple <3
Really agree to everyone who likes Roger and Kate together. It is really refreshing. Long time there is not such a fresh pairing in TVB series.
I also find Roger really handsome.
At the beginning the series was boring, but it begins to be better and better.

I like Roger a lot but I doubt he’ll end up with Kate since Kate and Ron are getting married pretty soon. I agree with everyone, even though I like Ron in general, I don’t really get so obsessed with his character much but I like what he does for Kate which shows he’s a man with a heart and always puts his girlfriend first.
In the show, Roger and Kate can be a good couple since they had some chemistry going on especially the part where they talk about how they realize they were trapped in the same place back then and how Kate sort of changes Roger by the way he looks at people. But if you think about it, I don’t think Roger and Kate will end up together because who Kate likes is Ron, not Roger. Plus, I think Zita, the girl who owns a restaurant, will probably end up with Roger even though the show doesn’t really show their chemistry much.
I agree that Ron is not interesting in this series (and in any series).
It is a good choice of Kate to choose the handsome Roger.

Yea..for family “reunion” purposes..I don’t think they’ll make Roger and Kate together (I WISH THO!!) I agree with you in that I hope Kate does develop some sort of feelings for Roger though- they understand each other so much!! I feel the love/chemistry they share- its just so sweeet!
Ron plays a nice guy and puts his girlfriend first, but I don’t know if its his character or acting- I don’t feel much for his character. Some of his actions appears quite immature too. Ron & Kate appear really happy together though, but lacking some form of underlying understanding e.g Ron not noticing what her “dream” was. I liked how Ron believed Kate when “Donald” appeared though- that was neat! In that scene, Roger was still distrusting towards Kate, but it was cute to see how cut he was when he thought she was decieving their feelings ^^;

lol, this isn’t the sequel of the Chip off the Old Block although I wish they had one because the story line left the audience clueless at the end. Like the others said, it’s more like a Moonlight Resonance kind of story line except with the noodle company as their theme.
Because of the series, I am a big fan of Roger Kwok.
He is just amazing. Really like him to be together with Kate Tsui. They match well. Really want to watch episode 20.

I love the two together!! I think Episode 20 would be the climax in their “relationship”- that scene was so AWWWWWWW!!! XD So sweet.. XD XD I’m glad that Roger was able to “express” his feelings for her, although I don’t think they will end up together
I think this scene really made it for me- because Kate was able to find out how Roger felt even though it wouldn’t lead to anything..
I think from this scene onwards, Roger will start to distance himself from her and start developing feelings for Zita 🙂

This series is like moonlight resonance, but while I was watching this series, I compared it to MR and I can tell MR is much more better than this one and has more depth. Both Kate and Grandpa Guy are in this drama, and I think that other girl do. Just want to make my point that this one cant compare to that one 🙂
I watched up to Episode 20 now..only 10 epsiodes left. Things have progressed to a state where it almost feels like an ending is approaching XD The two families have grown a lot closer and more reunited than ever..but that can’t possibly be it. I think these coming 10 episodes would be intense as they explore characters which still haven’t had much chance to shine/do much. Can’t wait!!! And no spoielrs please, because it won’t be as exciting as waching and finding out! But I do haev some ideas…
1. Derek’s character-always upset about Claire marrying Roger’s dad. Also looked down upon at work and considered “poor”. from various hints throughout the series, he may actually be lovers with Claire instead of siblings..I think will turn into the bad guy in the end/or reveal his other intentions all along..
2 Ron and Kate- will all go well for these two? Seems too good to be true.. Ron’s character doesn’t do much so far so I think he’ll turn “bad” too…maybe from Jealousy??
3. If Derek is the main villain in the series, I think he could be easily manipulated by Derek into hating Roger and his family. He also does not seem to know about Florence previously dating Roger and has shown some suspiscion through the series when Florence mentions Roger consistently asking her whether she has regretted giving up her dreams to be with Sunny etc (like going between them)
Given that they have recently distributed larger % of shares to Toby, Sunny and his dad..things might just get a bit more messy and out of hands!
When Roger shall end up with Zita, they shall show much more scenes of them. Until now I don´t want both to get together. Even though I like Zita. She is a beautiful girl.

I thought so too…. i suspected it when sunny said things about ‘if people didnt know they would have thought you were the father’—> his reaction was such a give away. Also when Derek started talking about his ex girlfriend and how she married a old rich man, i just thought— they are such a couple. XD
Roger is superb. I really like his character.
Zita is such a good person. She helps Roger whenever she can, even though she knows that Roger loves Kate.
In episode 27 Kate is willing to marry Ron, even though she has no confidence in their future. Does this is a little signal, that Roger is really important for her.
I like to think its because Roger is really important to her XD But I think TVB is trying to say that Ron is really important to her; and doesn’t want his family to break apart
Episode 27 of Wax And Wane was so great. It was so interesting to watch. There was so many tensions. It was definately the best episode of the whole drama. I was so angry when I saw all people against Roger, even though he did everything to keep his family and company stable. All those who was against him, are really getting on my nerves, because they are so silly. Fortunately his grandmother and Kate believe in him.
Roger once again did a great job, especially when he talks to Toby and Sunny. It was so great.
I was totally boiling up watching these episodes!! haha…makes me soooo mad ><''' Can't wait til the truth comes out!!! Only 3 more episodes though!! I'm glad grandma and Kate believe in him 🙂 🙂

I think Roger will definitely fall for Zita, i think she’s the perfect girl for him, all she ever thinks about is him, and as a tvb drama, its going to be a happy ending ;D.
I just think that Sunny’s character is getting ridiculous he keeps saying that both his sister and wife are hooking up with roger. even though in ep 28 he does see some sense, but he still lets Derek off —> thats so annoying @.@ . I also feel so sorry for Ron.. he’s taking drugs to get over Kate aww.

Wax And Wane is over. Miss Roger Kwok. Hopefully he will have more series where his character is as interesting as Yung Yi Chuns.
I love the ending and I like how Ron propose to Kate and finally she accepts his proposal, it’s about time.
But it’s sad that Roger and Kate aren’t together but I’m satisfied that Roger has someone by his side which happens to be Zita and I’m glad that it’s her too 🙂
I especially love Toby and Him, they’re such a cute couple. I was actually rooting for them to be together, they’re so cute <3
And I kind of feel sorry about Derek's past life but it's not right to ruin the Yung Family and steal their luxuries. Then again, the bad guy loses and good guys wins 🙂 Btw, I really wonder what happened with Yung Yee Long, they haven't really mentioned him. And I was a bit shocked that Yung Yee Long is actually Yung Xing Fun's son, not Derek's. Guess there are lots of surprises in this show, so many unexpected things will happen eventually.
Overall, I enjoyed this series so much, it's great, it's almost as awesome as Moonlight Resonance, and I hope that they'll have a second series of this show. If any of you guys haven't watched this show, you should really go for this series. It's a drama you'll never forget 🙂

Although its weird to say this…I felt pity for Sau ping. I mean, although she was scheming and all but it still didn’t feel like she was that bad .__. Maybe its her previous pretense that hasn’t worn off :/ But anyways, I still feel really bad that she had to die. And what makes it even sadder is that she died at the hands of the man that she loved the most >< Poor woman…

From what I can remember I think a similar scene did happen but I thought it was in the dark… It was the bit when Kate went to deliver an important document and it started to rain and she sprained her ankle.. Then Roger went looking for her.. Though this was quite near the start when Roger still wasn’t very fond of her.
