Synopsis
While Emperor TO KWONG, MAN NING (Sunny Chan) is about to crown YUN YUEN (Myolie Wu) as Empress HAU SUN, Empress Dowager CHAT LAI FUN (Gigi Wong) is forcing NIOHURU YEE LAN (Jessica Hester Hsuan) to commit suicide for the late eldest prince.

There have been a lot of hype about this series being Myolie’s breakthrough role XD I’m really looking forward to this anniversary series/grand production! Based on the trailers,seems like there will be lots of drama. I’m also looking forward to seeing Jessica’s performance- it’s been awhile since I’ve seen her. Another series about women scheming, it seems. Well, bitch fights are always fun so I’m looking forward to this series. 😀
Now I know why they say Myolie’s acting improved! She no longer looked exaggerated, in fact from the trailer, seems like she did even better than Jessica! And Nancy, she seems great too! Im actually hoping to see more of her!

The makeup stinks. I think i can say that without watching, regarding the plot and the acting, well, that i’ll have to watch.
But, does anyone know how much screentime does Elena get in the series? I think she has a small role?
Elena just come out on ep 5 for a short while. i’m looking forward more of her roles in this drama
The costumes and all that make up make them look more like Egyptians (like Cleopatra) than the usual ancient Chinese palace Empresses we see in other similar series such as Beyond the Realm of Conscience or War and Beauty
Personally I love the new costumes and make up, its completely different from those in the past and deserves setting new example! I love how sharp and vivid the colours are, not just in their costumes but in some of the photo shoots. Heres hoping the plot and characters prove just as colourful!
I think so too! I don’t know why there are complaints actually, I don’t see any prob with the make-up. I think it’s because everyone has different taste. I hope the plot will pick up soon too 🙂 And the characters can excel.
Hahaha I was gonna say the same thing. They’re make up is eye-catching, yet… weird (dunno the right word) even the guys’. The colors are very bright just judging from the poster.

omg this show turned out to be really good. the last 4 episodes were REALLY intense! at the beginning it was eh and i hated myolie’s character but at the end i felt really bad for her =[ one thing i didn’t really get about the show was when Jessica wore yellow, i thought concubines no matter how high ranked they were only the empress can wear yellow x__X but all the empresses seem to wear more like dark/gloomy colors. throughout this series jessica seemed more like the empress rather than just a gui fei. maybe that’s what they were trying to hint out in the beginning :O

Finally finished the drama! A few dragged out scenes, but amazing! It really fits “the curse” in this drama’s title, all the allusions of the supernatural and reincarnation and karma really gave me the chills in some parts!
The ending of this series put me in big disappointment. There were so many things I expected to happen but they didn’t happen.

I would really be happy and kinda thought that Yee-Lan would become “The Empress” just like Wu Zetian since before the guy (forgot his name) got his head chopped off by man-ling said that Yee-Lan would be powerful and that man-ling would follow into Lee Chi’s footstep… so i was hoping that it would happen but apparently man-ling doesn’t love her anymore even after all the things shes done for him… he is such a jerk for doing that!!!
also even if the Wu Zetian didn’t happen, at least let us know more about her later life after the hot balloon scene!!!
anyway, in the end Yee-Lan is my favorite character, then Yun-Yuen cuz I just love their bitchy/evilness even though not really evil… I really feel bad for Yee-Lan cuz of the stupid emperor!!!

Not a terrible series, but not that great either. I missed all the critically-acclaimed acting from Myolie. 🙂 I agree that Myolie’s acting has improved (especially compared to her past performance in series such as “Taichi Master”), but it’s still not exactly the type of acting that should flood her with awards. It is easy to sympathize with her character, Yuen-yuen, and I think her performance review got quite a bit of a boost from that.
The plot isn’t that engrossing either though it is ok.
The accessories seem fine to me, though I don’t know why they put lipstick on Jessica in such a strange manner that it makes her look as if she’s puckering her lips all the time, especially whenever they use a dark color lipstick.
I’m glad Kwok Fung isn’t too annoying in this series. I disliked his work in “Dicey Business”. The lay-it-on-thick villainous role. I recently saw his performance in a very old TVB series, “Fearless Duo”. (OMG!! Where do you find a worse performance??) I’m surprised he still had a career after his performance there. That kind of acting would make anyone else’s acting look quite impressive. [“Fearless Duo” gets to be hilarious at times because TVB kept re-using Sean Lau and Francis Ng for various minor roles in the same series.]
I felt Myolie’s acting has improved in “Curseâ€. I was hoping Jessica would shine more. I liked Jessica’s character throughout.
It was interesting watching Myolie’s character grow and develop through the series. At first, she was underdeveloped. I felt she was worrying for no reason xD Myolie’s parents are the worst! The emperor seems to ignore everything they have done, and easily forgives once they are known to carry his child. Makes sense I suppose but it angers me how he can be so forgiving. I suppose he has to forgive for the story to continue on XD
I like watching Myolie and Joel’s scenes and their death scene was particularly touching. Their love story was probably the most heartfelt. Ok their relationship was wrong but..Joel was a good guy other when he was manipulated by Myolie to sleep with her. I felt he was genuinely sorry when Sunny found out and I couldn’t blame him.
It’s sad that after all Joel has done for the emperor, his mother was able to manipulate him in wanting to take over the throne.
I couldn’t help but compare Myolie, Joel and Sire’s relationship to Life and Times of a Sentinel (Elaine, Kenneth and Natalie). It was sad that Sire had to end her life like that, and hopefully she was able to leave a place in Joel’s heart.
i felt the story line was a bit dry and Jessica’s acting was quite average.
Jessica’s character just turned weird in the end. Power hungry and pretty ugly XD
