[Beyond the Realm of Conscience] Episode 27 is quite an exciting one! There is a great focus on Michelle and Susanna which was actually very pleasant to watch! Let’s jump straight into the synopsis, shall we? 🙂
Vin successfully beats Susanna up, leaving her in tears and pain… She smiled for a second, thinking he came to save her but was shocked to find it was the opposite! Her heart is completely broken knowing her own son put in the effort and money just to hit her 🙁 I secretly hoped lightning would suddenly strike, but I guess that would be too superstitious XD What a nasty scene, and Vin was really stupid!! Arghhh… Poor Susanna :'( I pity her so much. (On a random note, I actually got spoiled this scene once during dinner….I was like, “What?! Susanna has a kid? Ram is dead??” Yeah..poor me, I got spoiled THAT much by accident…. It was obvious from what she said that Vin was her child. I wonder why he didn’t catch on? XD Oh wells, the audience is just that much smarter!)
Vin beats up Susanna without hesitation
Michelle expected Susanna to not do any of her work, but she proves her wrong by performing above and beyond. Michelle is surprised seeing Susanna work so diligently which reminds her what a reliable person she is. When questioned her motive for working so hard (even in pain), she explains she simply wants to help her out. She has always wanted the best for her but because of Ram’s passing, she has doubted and misunderstood her. Michelle becomes confused, by what she sees and how she thinks of her. Has she perhaps really misunderstood something? Mary has been impressed with the House of Proceedings yearly results since Michelle became the Head- but Michelle knew it wouldn’t have been possible without Susanna’s help.
Michelle soon learns from Vin that he had bashed Susanna and threw back the shoes at her. Michelle is surprised by the extent of his treatment! As doubts start flowing into her mind, we start seeing signs of guilt. Alone in Ram’s room, Michelle reflects back on what Susanna had said to her- how she didn’t see Ram at first, but then admits she did see him. Which is the truth and which is a lie? “Ram, please tell me if she really is the murderer or not” she whispers to herself. Suddenly an old creepy voice calls out to her O__O HOW SCARY!! lol This was so creepy and comical at the same time (not sure if it was intentional XD) Did anyone else get sudden chills? haha! It was quite amusing.
Michelle makes a discovery regarding Ram’s death
It turns out he was another Gong Gong in the Palace, who has been ill since Ram’s death and only had the chance now to give him offerings. He believes his illness is a punishment for causing Ram’s death! On that fateful day, he saw Ram in a hurry to help deliver something to Kwok Keung. Because he was late, he informed him of an alternate route, a much more quiet and narrow path which should be shorter. It was there at he had his accident and died. Michelle is very shocked and devastated! So everything Susanna said was real? She really did see Ram just to ask him to help her give something to Kwok Keung? She mistaken her all this time?! (Well yes!!)
She walks out mindlessly in shock upon realising the truth. When looking for Vin, she hears that he was last seen getting some rat poison and hurrying off somewhere. Michelle suddenly remembers him saying if he got the opportunity, he will poison Susanna’s food and kill her!
This scares Michelle who rushes to Susanna. She happened to be placing an egg in her mouth when she stops her in time, knocking it aside! Susanna was shocked by the sudden act, and Michelle, still stubborn to admit she may have been wrong, comes up with a lame (but funny) excuse that if she ate now, how would she eat dinner later? “Why are you eating so many eggs??” XDÂ XD XD How is eating a egg a crime? And what’s it got to do with hurting Michelle’s image/reputation? Susanna was so confused by her weirdness, which I got a good laugh out of XD HOW FUNNY IS THIS?? Ah…poor Michelle, we understand your pain ^.^;
Michelle stopping Susanna from eating an egg
Once Michelle starts thinking with her heart and becomes soft, I start feeling for her again :} I really liked this transitional stage where she’s not brave enough to admit she is wrong, but yet now even questions herself and doubts. About time! And yay, I’m getting happy again! I really hated her being such a bitch earlier but it seems it won’t be long til they’re friends again 🙂
When Michelle finally finds Vin fiddling with poison (which he used to poison a rat), she tells him Susanna may not be Ram’s murderer! Vin of course feels really awful for what he did to Susanna and the things he said to her (He really over-reacted towards her earlier, didn’t he? To even attempt to slap her, and beat her up after he let him off?? Geez…). He still has his prides though. He watches her from outside her room and sees her inconvenience just trying to sit down. He gets noticed and pretends he came for work related matters. Finally, he takes out a bottle of ointment for her injuries. Susanna is very happy and touched he came back for her (though the transition is a little awkward for her- I mean he was being a complete ass towards her just earlier. But I guess Susanna doesn’t question his sincerity, and just takes it for face value :} I’m feeling happy for her~
There’s something that’s bothered me though. How come Vin wasn’t annoyed or angry at Michelle for assuming Susanna was the murderer?! She got it all wrong yet he doesn’t blame her one bit for it.. it’s like:
Michelle: “hm, I don’t think she’s the murderer anymore”
Vin: “Oh o__o”
XD
Michelle tells Vin Susanna isn’t Ram’s murderer
Meanwhile, the Prince of another country visits, and Selena organises performances for him. Kwok Lun uses this chance to compliment her endlessly, constantly showing his high hopes for Selena’s baby. He believes she is destined to have a Prince, and constantly reminds Moses she will be perfect as Queen. This annoys Tavia but what’s to come completely pushes her off limit. When Tavia tells Charmaine to create a butterfly jewelery piece for Selena, Kwok Lun bags her out, saying she is cursing Selena to have a daughter! Kwok Lun continues to pick on Tavia, pointing out all her flaws and bringing up her background, insisting she shouldn’t even think about competing with Selena. She is completely humiliated but Moses does little to defend her. Charmaine then speaks up, justifying that a butterfly isn’t any insult towards Selena, and has good intentions. Kwok Lun starts scolding at Charmaine and attempts to slap her! Both Kevin and Moses yell at the same time “STOP!!” What a scene, haha! Tavia was soo infuriated. Looks like Tavia has just found another reason to despise Charmaine.
Moses and Kevin stop Kwok Lun from slapping Charmaine (Kevin speaks faster it seems., lol)
Charmaine didn’t do anything- in fact, she was getting into trouble helping her out! What’s important to her though, is that she sees Moses defending for her..and says nothing when Kwok Lun insults her. Uh-oh! I sense a lot of jealousy……How will Tavia go about plotting now?

What do you think of Episode 27? Do you enjoy watching Susanna/Michelle’s storyline more or Tavia/Charmaine? Is Michelle’s change of heart winning you over, or is the transition awkward? Is Tavia wrong for hating Charmaine for something she didn’t do? Would you be mad? Drop a comment and let us know! 🙂
Please refrain from posting spoilers beyond Episode 27. Thank you.
It’s funny how in the screenshot Kevin looks like he already finished saying stop in chinese while Moses is still looking and thinking of what he should say!
lol yesh… his mouth is also much noticeably bigger than Moses XD
nice watch with the scene of michelle relise the truth. Abit funny athought for her prohibition of susanna’s poison.yES, Her charactor earlier the bitch but now began convert to mature lady again. tavia in on plotting and scheming. She abit clever this episode move around with abit active but feedback a huge revenge.I thoungt she hate charmaine to found her truth and scare out for its revealation included her past vegence or maybe moses look tight defending her and high protect to chamaine instead. Some confusion but exciting well.
Tavia despises Charmaine because she’s jealous everyone seem to love and protect her, while she has no one. It’s nothing new though… Charmaine has always been more lucky than Tavia, even in the early stages when they were both servants.
Finally. We have arrived at the point in time where michelle is so much more likeable! 😀 So i won’t have to curse her any longer 😀
The part where michelle was asking ram was soo creepy at first, with the ghostly voice, and michelle freaking out. (i got chills :O) And then she turns around, to see the eunuch, then it was comical!
The scene where michelle stopped susanna from eating the eggs was soo comical! “it will ruin my reputation”, and susanna was like what?!. One could see that she was so baffled!
I was so glad that Vin wasn’t annoyed okay. So glad! I was expecting him to slap michelle or ignore her or something. But i suppose he understands her motivations, and susanna did lie to her. it was her mistake, like she didn’t make use of him. She did look remorseful. Oh, and he does really treat her like his godmom eh? He just believes her like that, and he doesn’t doubt her. (all i can say is that ram took the right godson)
Even if the transition was weird, i would still have wanted it. People would probably be cursing michelle so badly, coz she’s so annoying, that they would be glad to see this transition come. So whether it’s believable or not is not a matter of contention. And susanna and michelle are better friends than enemies, seriously! I suppose michelle needs time to calm down and sort through her thoughts. (i believe that the incident where vin got into trouble did have an effect on her).
Susanna and michelle beat charmaine and tavia anytime
Even with michelle being a bitch and bullying susanna. That’s how much i mean anytime.
Susanna and michelle was the reason why i started watching this show. I wanted to give up at episode 10, due to the lack of scenes. But michelle, ram and susanna kept me going. Then it was michelle, ram, susanna and kwok keung. I almost gave up at episode 22 after michelle became so annoying and ram died (T.T) But in the end persisted coz of susanna, kwok keung and michelle. The whole show, for me, was kept together by 4 of them plus the fantastic veterans (mary, susan, etcetera)
haha, i’m so weird right? there are people who will disagree with me and tell me that the veterans are a waste of time, i believe. But to me, this has never been the case! 😀
Finally. We have arrived at the point in time where michelle is so much more likeable! So i won’t have to curse her any longer
YES! It’s such a relief… its amazing how quickly we can like a character who was once so bitchy ^_^ I liked this transition and it was much more believable and realistic than Selena turning form bitch to a goodie goodie. This is because we know Michelle’s reasons for behaving this way and it was all due to a misunderstanding 🙂

haha exactly my thoughts!!

I loved this scene.. one of the funniest in the entire drama 😀
I was so glad that Vin wasn’t annoyed okay. So glad! I was expecting him to slap michelle or ignore her or something.
I think they didn’t bother making Vin annoyed at Michelle because he knows she does love him and it wasn’t intentional.. They got straight to the point! I would have really wanted to see that though when Michelle was still bitchy, but now that she’s a nice character it’s good to see them all in harmony 🙂
Susanna and michelle beat charmaine and tavia anytime That’s slightly disappointing aye? Since Charmaine and Tavia are the leads with most screen time.
Oh, I do enjoy the veterans too 🙂
“its amazing how quickly we can like a character who was once so bitchy ^_^”
It’s amazing how quickly one can hate a character too! Both of them took under one episode!
“I liked this transition and it was much more believable and realistic than Selena turning form bitch to a goodie goodie. This is because we know Michelle’s reasons for behaving this way and it was all due to a misunderstanding ”
Selena’s transition was not believable. Really! She turned into such an angel (you know charmaine style?), and why? because she was copying some scripture! Try selling me that. Funny now that people understand why she behaves this way! There was virtually no pity or understanding for her at all after episode 22 (well maybe except me, with a soft heart :O) But she was really so annoying (not to say that i didn’t understand or pity her). Now the annoying index can be pushed over to tavia.
“I loved this scene.. one of the funniest in the entire drama”
I don’t exactly think it was supposed to be as funny as we think it is, you know? It think it was supposed to be creepy. (even though i did know the storyline before i watched beyond, i was thinking/hoping, for a brief moment that ram came back/his ghost appeared or something)
“I think they didn’t bother making Vin annoyed at Michelle because he knows she does love him and it wasn’t intentional..”
I suppose that’s because ram did love him and did treat him like a son, so this kind of got shifted to michelle. Though i will have to say that ram is actually much more kind hearted compared to michelle. (you know, I think that ram is an angel in this show. he treats everyone ever so nicely, esp michelle, and he doesn’t sabotage people and does favours for them. But I think that his character is believable :O)
“That’s slightly disappointing aye?”
Slightly disappointing would be an understatement. Esp with ram’s death (you wonder why i keep raising this. well, that’s because i can’t raise another example yet!). But watching veterans is like that, you prepare to be disappointed.

Oh, I’m not referring to that scene, I meant the part where Michelle stops Susanna from eating an egg and the excuses she came up with XD
Oh right. I got confused. Hahah, my trademark 😀
That one was funny yeahh! 😀 Although she said that too many eggs were bad for health, it would make her fat. *blinks twice*
haha, that’s okay ^_^
Funny someone would eat a egg in the middle of the day, but I guess it’s their snack? XD
YAAAY. Michelle finally started to think straighter and try to make sense of things! Oh my god, when that voice greeted her, I was like, “Eh?!” because I thought it was Ram’s voice! It was so funny when it was actually just the eunuch.
Ah, it’s so much better to watch Michelle on good (or rather, better) terms with Susanna~~ And how she didn’t want to admit she was wrong or anything, and tried to make up lame excuses for spilling Susanna’s food.
I didn’t feel this at the time of watching, but now I kinda feel sorry for Tavia. After all, she is a concubine after all, and Moses didn’t say anything to stop Kwok Lun insulting her past! Dude, that’s also like an indirect insult to his MUM’s past! But no, the Emperor obviously can’t stop some General (what’s KL’s rank ._.) from speaking badly about HIS WIFE. Geeez T_T
It must’ve been horrible for Tavia though, but that just got worse and converted to hatred and jealousy when TWO males defended Charmaine, who wasn’t even as highly ranked as Tavia!
And Tavia had thought that by becoming a concubine she wouldn’t have to take trouble from people. (as she said in an early episode)
Sad thing is, though, Charmaine was speaking up for Tavia, defending her, but it kind of… =\ led to Tavia hating her more, because of Charmaine’s lover(s).
YAAAY. Michelle finally started to think straighter and try to make sense of things! Oh my god, when that voice greeted her, I was like, “Eh?!†because I thought it was Ram’s voice! It was so funny when it was actually just the eunuch.
LOL, well…a much as I like Ram, it’s best not to have a ghost version of him coming back LOL!!

You make a good point. When I watched this scene (and I think it would be the same for many others); everyone automatically thinks ‘Woah, Tavia is so bitchy and angry again” and see it as unnecessary for her hating Charmaine who didn’t do anything. But if you were in her shoes, if your husband stood up for another girl and not you, how would you feel? I think any normal person would be jealous and angry- and start saying things like wanting them not to exist. We probably wouldn’t take it to the extent of killing them off, but we might curse here and then until the anger dies down. Tavia was obviously very heated up… (but her form of revenge is a lot more scary and evil..)
As for being angry Kevin stood up for Charmaine, maybe Tavia was jealous of the amount of people loving and supporting Charmaine almost her entire life- something she feels she never had. If Kevin (who is lower in rank compared to Moses) is willing to speak up against Kwok Lun for the women he loves, why can’t Moses do anything for her?
Wait. no one felt sorry for tavia when you were watching the show? I was thinking: that sucks for her, real bad. I felt slightly sorry for her.
But, she must recognise the fact that she’s a concubine, and an emperor can take as many concubines as he wants. So basically, it’s just like getting pretty sex machines (no seriously, sorry). As a concubine, you can’t expect an emperor to love and treasure you when he can get like infinite concubines. If you expect him to, you must be a fool.
Moses was unwilling to do anything for tavia precisely because he doesn’t love her. He takes her as a pretty sex machine/hand accessory or something like that. An object basically.
This is not like a case of susanna and kwok keung, who really love each other. (i did’t cite charvin, coz i don’t feel anything for them). and kwok keung did stand up for susanna. Making viewers happy 😀
“YAAAY. Michelle finally started to think straighter and try to make sense of things! Oh my god, when that voice greeted her, I was like, “Eh?!†because I thought it was Ram’s voice! It was so funny when it was actually just the eunuch.”
Yeah, I thought that it was ram’s voice too, and it sounded so ghostly. So for a moment, I thought that he made an appearance *shudders*
Moses doesnt like tavia he only made her concubine because in some earlier episodes ago he wanted to make charmaine concubine but she told him to go and make tavia concubine because tavia had a crush on him… so that was probably why he didnt say anything to defend her from the insults. but when he and kevin had defended charmaine Tavia probably felt and thought that she had no on her side and no one really cared about her but in reality she had charmaine…=)
