Ah, finally a good episode to watch where I don’t have to cringe every few seconds seeing Tavia and Michelle! In episode 25 of [Beyond the Realm of Conscience], the story focuses more on Charmaine and Kevin, something we haven’t seen for quite a while! I must say it felt interesting and refreshing 🙂 Be prepared for some tears though as there are some really emotional and touching scenes! *sniff*
After much power-play between Moses and Kwok Lun, Kevin’s father is finally release from the prison cell. It was a very happy moment for them and Charmaine and her father visit to congratulate him. The fathers teased the lovebirds, asking when the two will be getting married and starting a family. They decide to celebrate and catchup with drinks and snacks the next evening. Charmaine will be cooking up some food and her father will be preparing some quality tea. It would be a good chance for their fathers to play the new chess set, too. It was such a delight to see them so happy and optimistic!
Kevin, Charmaine and their fathers having a good time (lol, Kevin’s grin looks sus! Dirty thoughts? XD)
The evening came when Charmaine, accompanied by Kevin was heading over with some food. From afar, they see the old men by the chess table asleep. However, upon having a closer look, they have both been poisoned!! Charmaine’s father had died and Kevin’s father was in a serious critical condition; he only had a few hours left to live.
Kevin’s father lays fragile on his bed, with tears dripping from his eyes for not seeing his last wish fulfilled; which was for Kevin to get married and have kids. So sad!! 🙁 🙁 Charmaine suggests to Kevin for the two to get married immediately. Kevin initially refuses, but she insists that it’s not acted on impulse nor an irrational move. She never got the chance to even hear what her father’s wish was. Now that Kevin has the chance, the least he can do is to let his father leave without regrets. Moses overhears the conversation and despite it being a taboo, he graciously gives them his full support.
While his dad is half dying, the two proceed with the wedding ceremony they quickly put together. awww…it was so so sad..yet sweet at the same time ;'(Â When Charmaine offers tea to her father-in-law, he says his last few words and passes away.. he never got the chance to drink the tea 🙁 I loved this whole scene- I thought it was really beautiful and Charmaine and Kevin shared some much needed chemistry. Anyone agree?
Kevin and Charmaine get married secretly as his father lays dying
A few days later, Charmaine is in the garden where her father used to work, picking up his belongings accompanied by Susanna and Kevin. Their fathers got poisoned by the tea Charmaine’s father had prepared, which made them wonder how poison got inside the container. Vin suddenly walks by and overhears them, revealing he had witnessed Lum Gong Gong (Kwok Lun’s follower) come in contact with it on the day of the incident. He knocked into her father and helped him pick up the tea container that he dropped onto the ground. It was possible that at that moment, poison was placed inside. Vin demonstrates a magic trick which proves his point and Lum Gong Gong would have these same skills to do it as well;Â as he was the one who taught him. How very surprising! Kevin remembers seeing Lum Gong Gong’s purple fingernails, possibly infected by touching the poison. Kevin plans to report him to Moses with Vin being the eye-witness;. However, Susanna interferes and claims Vin will be in a lot of danger. Since Lum Gong Gong is Kwok Lun’s follower, even if they successfully win the case, he will not let Vin go easily…She begs them to not get Vin involved and to find another plan. I was starting to get worried Susanna places her son above everything else, ruining their plan, but I guess that’s a natural motherly instinct. Let’s hope they can find an alternate plan.. this evidence seemed too juicy to ignore. (And wow, did everyone find this discovery very intriguing??)
Vin reveals Lum Gong Gong is suspicious
Shortly after, Kevin comes in with Moses and his purple fingernail evidence to accuse Lum Gong Gong as the murderer. Kevin sets up Lum Gong Gong, using the same technique he had used on them- hastily placing poison on him without him knowing! Although initially denying the poison was from the same source, a quick search by Kwok Keung reveals the package Kevin had cunningly placed on him! But of course, before Lum Gong Gong could explain himself (or even point out that Kwok Lun ordered him to)- Kwok Lun instantly stabs him to death! lol, we’ve seen this technique used by him countless times…yet it always works. Kwok Lun is always using others to do his dirty-work and when anything relating to him arises he destroys all evidence. Moses frowns upon his action, and he backs-off, saying he will give-up authority for 6 months to teach himself a lesson. lol, it’s so obvious Moses knows Kwok Lun was the real criminal..but at least Lum Gong Gong is caught out!
As the case is solved, Susanna gives Vin a pair of hand-made shoes and pretends it was Charmaine’s idea for thanking him with helping out on the investigation. Vin loved the shoes very much and it fitted him perfectly. It was the first time anyone had made shoes for him, and it was crafted so perfectly. He apologised for anything he’d done wrong in the past, if he was ever offensive towards her. He had realised she cared so much for him, like protecting him from the dangers of being the eye-witness earlier. The two are both on very good terms, starting fresh :DÂ awww… a very very sweet scene!! I felt so happy for them, especially Susanna who could finally get along with her son.
Susanna gives Vin a pair of shoes and Michelle reveals she killed Ram
Unfortunately, this doesn’t last as Michelle soon discovers Susanna gave a pair of shoes to Vin which infuriates her! She insists on burning it but Vin refuses to give it to her, questioning why she hates her so much after they had reconciled as friends. She blabs out that Susanna killed Ram and that Susanna only treats him so nicely to make up for what she did. She even admits she doesn’t have any evidence, yet he just listens to her unconditionally and gets really mad. Oh noooo!! >____<!!! Stupiddddd Michelle..ARGH!
The next day, where they’d initially agreed to meet-up, Vin tells off Susanna, tossing fruit she had for Ram onto the ground as crap. He rudely tells her he doesn’t want any of her things, and throws the shoes she made for him back at her! How slack!! He angrily marches off and Susanna runs after him hoping for some explanation. After insulting her endlessly and threatening her, he lifts his arms to slap her! Thankfully, Kwok Keung witnesses the situation and angrily stops him. OMG! How dramatic! It’s father and son face to face! I looooooved this scene! I always find Kwok Keung so charming every time you see the feelings he has for Susanna in his eyes…there’s always so much passion. He angrily scolds at Vin for being so daring and disrespectful towards Susanna, dragging him away to be reported. However, Susanna pleads Kwok Keung not to do anything, holding him back and letting Vin escape. He is very confused and concerned for her but she tells him she owes him a lot.. aww..I can’t wait to see the three of them to reunite as a family 🙁 I really like Susanna & Kwok Keung’s relationship!! They are arguable my favourite pairing in this drama with the most chemistry *A* *gasp* Anyone else also ship this pair? XD
Kwok Keung protects Susanna and scolds at Vin
Finally, Charmaine is burning two candles at night, one for her father and one for her father-in-law. While placing them onto the water, she discovers a third one tangled on the side and decides to help light it up too since it hasn’t finished burning. It turns out it was the one Tavia had burnt for her baby. However, she soon discovers a small piece of paper with the baby’s death date left intact! Charmaine notices the death dates doesn’t match up and suspects Tavia had in fact set up Yi Kei!!! OMG! The suspense is really building up! What will she do..?
Isn’t it funny that the candle is that noticeable and within arms reach? XD

What do you think of episode 25? Which is your favourite scene- was it around Charmaine/Kevin or Susanna/Vin? Drop a comment and let us know!
(Aside note: I just realised when I watched this scene that someone had already spoiled it in a comment left on Episode 21 because he/she guessed it may cause Tavia in trouble in the future..and it actually happens!)
Without a doubt, susanna and vin ^^
And then someone has to just spoil my fun! D:
Me me! susanna and kk! The older generation pairing has more chemistry than the younger generation ones, without a doubt! 😀
i enjoyed susanna and KK way more than charvin! hah. of course, that also includes moses and his concubines 😀
I think that michelle and ram is cuter and they also had chemistry. (but i think very few people subscribe to this, because of the absolute lack of development. which leaves viewers, even me, unconvinced :O)
at least vin treats michelle like the mom (well, but at the wrong time D:)
what will charmaine do? good question. prepared to be surprised! :O
i enjoyed susanna and KK way more than charvin! hah. of course, that also includes moses and his concubines
Yay! 😀 Im not alone! XD They’re the only couple I really enjoy watching in this drama.. Still not too convinced with Michelle and Ram though (always was suspicious whether Michelle really ‘loved’ Ram’ especially at the beginning stages… but suddenly she seems to love him so much more now that he is dead)
“Yay! Im not alone! XD They’re the only couple I really enjoy watching in this drama.”
The only portion which i didn’t enjoy was yikei bullying susanna and kwok keung’s indifference, but that was because he misunderstood the situation, so i don’t blame him. Susanna is such a pitiful character okay? It won’t get better, if i’m not wrong, though there is a point where michelle stops being annoying, but she’s still pitiful.
But besides that, they are awesome! 😀 one did not have to wonder whether susanna really loved kwok keung or vice versa!
tvb should do more of this (NO, not the tragic storyline, but the older gen stuff. they’re so much more interesting and intriguing. and need i say, they have more chemistry! I’ll even tell you that susanna and kwok keung are cuter than charvin. oops)
The only portion which i didn’t enjoy was yikei bullying susanna and kwok keung’s indifference, but that was because he misunderstood the situation, so i don’t blame him.
Ohh yes, Yi Kei was a nasty bitach >.<.. but at least we know he still loved her despite being cold towards her 😀
I’ll even tell you that susanna and kwok keung are cuter than charvin. oops
:D!
“Ohh yes, Yi Kei was a nasty bitach >.<.. but at least we know he still loved her despite being cold towards her"
She was nasty! Poor susanna, first she gets yikei, then michelle and tavia, then somemore (which happens to be some episodes after this). But at least, at that point, michelle is on her side. what a relief 😀 susanna and michelle are better as friends eh?
“Kevin, Charmaine and their fathers having a good time (lol, Kevin’s grin looks sus! Dirty thoughts? XD)”
HAHAHAHA.
Anyway, poor Kevin’s father. He’d just come out of jail (for a ‘crime’ he didn’t even commit) and the next thing he knows, he gets poisoned D: And he doesn’t even get to drink the marriage tea.
Omg, I absolutely loved how Kevin put that packet of poison into the follower’s belt. It was like, “Ha! How do you like having your own little underdoggy moves used on you?” (even though KL was unaware) But of course, he had to stab him to keep his own name ‘clear’. *rolls eyes*
Yay for Susanna and Vin! (But noo, Michelle tore Vin’s respect and loyalty away from her :() I hated it when Vin would act so disrespectful to Susanna, because Susanna would just take it without scolding back, because she felt like she owed him 20 years of love. Felt bad for Susanna. 🙁 And I can’t believe he had the nerve to try and slap her! (Yay for KK’s dramatic entry of “Stop right there!” 😀 😀 :D)
I guess from Vin’s perspective… well, since he actually thought Susanna was responsible for his foster father’s death… but still, the misunderstanding was so… bad. D8 (and the poor shoes.)
When Tavia jumped into the water, the wave’s currents probably pushed it back near the rocks near the bridge at some point.
And, uh ohh, tut, Tavia. (And it’s always Charmaine who discovers Tavia’s wrongdoings. And Tavia would just use the whole ‘sister’ excuse, and try to defend her actions by twisting logic and end up pissing Charmaine off, who would just have to walk away/leave her alone.)
“Kevin, Charmaine and their fathers having a good time (lol, Kevin’s grin looks sus! Dirty thoughts? XD)â€
HAHAHAHA.
Glad for the good laugh 😉

Yeah..at least he also got to play with his beloved chess set before he left.. :{
Felt bad for Susanna. And I can’t believe he had the nerve to try and slap her!
I know!! Does anyone else think Vin went OVERBOARD?! He totally abused the fact Susanna was such a kind lady and wouldn’t do anything back at him, like report him etc. Vin normally has very little guts, and to see him this daring and rude to someone he’s not even related to is quite..surprising.. It would be different if he knew she was his mother. You know, you’re sure your mother won’t dob you in and get you into trouble. What was he thinking to insult her like that when she has such a high rank? How was he to explain his behavior, when he doesn’t even have proof she killed Ram to begin with? To slap her when she hesitated to slap him? Ungrateful kid, all due to Michelle and her exaggerated stories!
But of course, I didn’t mind it since the heroic Kwok Keung comes to the rescue <3 <3 <3 <3 (My absolute favourite scene of this episode) SO charming…. XD
When Tavia jumped into the water, the wave’s currents probably pushed it back near the rocks near the bridge at some point.
lol, and no one notices except Charmaine. Aren’t their cleaners in the Palace? XD
“Vin went OVERBOARD?!”
Oh yeahh, i definitely think that he went overboard. Because i would have thought, given his character, that he would just like ignore her and give her a cold shoulder, which would not have been that bad. Susanna is like high ranking and he still dares to like slap her. If, lets say, that susanna did kill ram, which we all know isn’t the case, then i would say that he is perfectly justified, brave and filial to go and slap her, at risk of punishment. But since it is a general consensus that michelle is wrong to start with (coz she has no evidence) , that makes vin even wronger. Although michelle is wayyy more annoying.
I do think it would be different if he knew she was his mother.
Both Kwok Keung and Susanna (and Vin too actually) did a fantastic job here! My favourite scene for 23-25 hands down! (well, given that most of it was michelle being annoying)

hehee..it was fun watching Vin’s reaction when Kwok Keung started scolding at him XD
“hehee..it was fun watching Vin’s reaction when Kwok Keung started scolding at him XD”
Oh yes, he suddenly became so scared! :O
now, a worth watching episode, refreshing the critism mind arrived. Nice touching and intriguing scence invovled so heavy, devoke me more better and better emotion away from previous ones. One between Kevin and Charmaine must be the part when the two sit on knee in front of kevin’s dad, followed the viel was uncover with charmaine’s tear. Well shot and breathtaking out with the beautiful scence but exciting while susanna and her husband for me will place where the three:parent and son face to face together with argument, remained to when eastly shower falled to the sunny west scene of liza protect joe from her husband’s shot, reveal the truth of joe’s identity. So confusion but highly intense but upset mind. In contrast, Vin’s behaviour is so annoyed followed the similarity of childhish michelle respectable but he more reasonable after all. Every secret can’t wraped by their dirty scheme and no its unravell bit by bit. So now the time had come for evil Tavia. Charmaine scene to found the flower so so unpredictable . I never thought Tavia’s candle was going to reveal. Yes, It also with nice twist with clue, revived the relation with the previous episodes where tavia jumped to the lake, possible for the candle push to the side fortunately for charmaine. However, it still useless to the whole episode i think, our goddess sam ho will always defend tavia, left the villian for her next scheme against her prohibitor such as charmaine.
Charmaine scene to found the flower so so unpredictable .
Quite a surprise indeed~ didn’t expect this to reveal Tavia’s evil… would have thought it was to do with the Palace doctor or something. It’s quite clever 🙂
MORE SWEET SCENES BETWEEN CHARMAINE AND KEVIN IN THE NEXT FEW EPISODES! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE CHARVINNN 😀 KC’S EYES are so expressive. they can express his sadness’ and concern for charmaine so well. like she’s the world to him. AHAHA. love it
hmm and as usual michelle annoys me so much.
abt the yellow paper charmaine found.. I GOT SO ANNOYED AND ANGRY in the next episode. shant spoil the show any further for u. but sometimes i feel charmaine’s character is too naiive and stupid to survive as wad tavia said of charmaine in the first episode.

lol, there’s very few people who adore this couple. I did find them in this episode rather sweet, but overall I still don’t like them that much :{ They never really developed as a couple. They met ad fell in love (at first sight?) and that was it…
Why does Charmaine always go to the river thing and put those candle stuff in the water? I HATE THOSE SCENES!!!!! It always makes me feel very BORED! and this happens for like EVERY EPISODE!!!
and MICHELLE! omgsh. what is wrong with that woman?????!!! It’s pretty stupid… 😛 she’s making EVERYONE turn against Susanna…feel so sorry for her! and not feeling sorry for michelle at all! I mean, it’s sad that Ram died and all, but her blaming it ALL on Susanna just ruins it all!
Why does Charmaine always go to the river thing and put those candle stuff in the water? I HATE THOSE SCENES!!!!! It always makes me feel very BORED! and this happens for like EVERY EPISODE!!!
Oh yes, good point =_=.
AWWW…I loved this episode!! Everything was sooo sweet yet sad. I loved both Kevin and Charmaine’s scene and Vin and Susanna’s scene!!
I really enjoyed the chemistry between Kevin and Charmaine in this episode. I felt that they really loved each other and they emoted really well. I also liked the part where Kevin planted that poison on Lum Gong Gong. Kevin using magic to get a bit a revenge back for his father and Charmaine’s father was great.
The parts with Vin and Susanna was cute too!! Too bad Michelle spoiled it.
Kwok Keung has always been a good character that fights for what’s right and fights for his country…totally respect that guy!!
I really enjoyed the chemistry between Kevin and Charmaine in this episode. I felt that they really loved each other and they emoted really well.
yes, this scene was very emotional and bittersweet. They did a good job in expressing their love for each other… it helps that they’re both crying XD
Sorry never like any scenes with Kevin and Charmaine together. Its sooooo boring. I don’t feel the love between them. So no comment on theris boring scenes.
Same here >< it just felt really awkward watching them together
Surely you have comments on the other great scenes of this episode? 😀
I have to agree, they are so boring. I would have preferred that Charmaine end up with Moses.
As a fan of Charvin, it’s hard to not enjoy the scenes but i must say it is harder to express “love” when filming a costume series. Eg In FH2, their chemistry was way more intense, since it was a modern series. I mean, love was simple and uninteresting in the old days but now love is complicating etc.
Anyway, this was one of the most enjoyable episodes for me, since I could understand their dialogue easily!
I mean, love was simple and uninteresting in the old days but now love is complicating etc.
Well…at least there was some kind of love triangle.. well..actually..not really..since Mose’ss love was one-sided. XD
Wouldn’t it be dangerous to get married inside the palace? I mean they could get their heads cut off or something -_-, but they don’t seem to care though eh? Just try to please Kevin’s dad. Their wedding seemed kinda wierd too…Charmaine was in her normal clothes and she just had that red hankerchief over her face…I just found that really funn XD…that was really random…haha
Very risky.. but they had Moses kind of guarding the door XD
And the wedding would have been really hastily put together, so I guess that will have to do. I’m surprised they still managed to find red cloths and red candles etc to set it all up! XD
it was sweet when Charmaine and Kevin tried to fulfill Kevin’s father’s last wish… not that i really liked them in the show… the wedding was weird and was very rushed that it wasnt sad but seemed funny to me
sometimes i think that michelle is a bitch. she is already the Head of Proceedings and she is still not happy. still wan to torture Susanna. and susanna has to put up wif her. poor susanna.
Luckily Kwok Keung rush there in time to save susanna, if not susanna will get one tight slap from vin. Kwok Keung save Susanna… so sweet
