[Phoenix Rising] Episode 2

Hm..ok, so it turns out that Louisa already knew that Krystal was her sister. In this episode, we learn more about their lives when they were young, how the three sisters were orphaned and how Louisa and the youngest sister (which I believe will be played by Leila Tong) were adopted away from the orphanage. I can’t believe that old man who was harassing Krystal! (Louisa’s adopted father- referring to episode 1) Ek! And Louisa’s adopted mother, evil enough to spill hot water on Krystal.
It makes me wonder what happened to Louisa’s adopted father: He’s a rich man, how come he’s not helping his adopted daughter? Does he believe that his adopted daughter really killed his wife? I just find it a bit weird we don’t see his reaction at all.

In order to see Louisa, and hopefully look out for her while she was in jail, Krystal applies for a job to work at the prison. In order to get the job, she paid the other applicants money so they wouldn’t apply and bargained for the lowest pay possible.

There’s a really annoying “kelefe” who plays another prisoner (I don’t know her name but she always plays bitchy roles because she looks it) . She bullies Louisa a lot, slapping and beating her up and the other officers don’t do anything about it. In another scene, she takes Louisa’s egg, puts it in her mouth and spits it back out for her. She seems to be scared of a big women though, so I think it would be good if Louisa could become friends with her.

Leila appears in this episode as a recently graduate from overseas- Instructor type of person: to help and train the prisoners to change for the better so they could become useful citizens to the society and start over when they are released. I didn’t know such a course existed ..
I’m not finding this series as creepy as I had first imagined. The creepiness is the prison atmosphere, but in general, it’s about the sad, tragic life of the sisters. Some scenes were gross, like how Louisa was treated and how she was killing the cockroach that was on her food =__=

This little girl plays Louisa when she’s young. I think she’s quite cute ^^

Episode 19 This is the episode where Joey realises her feelings for Ron.

As a request from Kate, Joey helps her call out Ron who thought he was having dinner with Joey. She takes him to an expensive place, arranging a candle-light dinner with a violinist as well. Kate calls, saying that she couldn’t get off work so the two end up having dinner together instead. Turns out this is the first time Ron has had a candle-lit dinner with a girl; not even with Tavia.

Ron accidentally breaks some ceramic and Joey watches him as he glues the pieces together.

After dinner, the two go by those shops with lots of toy machines (not sure what they’re called). He ends up getting one that was more suitable for girls so he gives it to Joey instead. Joey feels something and gets scared, giving it back to him and rushes off.

[Phoenix Rising] Episode 1

Indeed an interesting episode; yet I’m not quite sure how to explain the story. The death of Louisa’s mother is a mystery. I was constantly changing my mind on who I thought was the “good” character: Louisa or Krystal? By the end of the episode, it seems like both of them aren’t ‘evil’, but a misunderstanding exists between them, that causes Louisa to hate Krystal. As the episode goes on, the timing is set backwards and reveals more and more about how things have become the way they are: Why was Louisa was sentenced to death? How was Louisa was going to marry Ben and how/why the wedding didn’t go ahead.? We learn about Krystal’s past, how she and Sunny met. But what I really wanted to know was how Krystal and Louisa even knew each other. Were they friends? Why did Krystal have to secretly watch Louisa’s wedding from afar? Why wasn’t Krystal invited?

At the end of the episode, Krystal reveals that Louisa is her little sister..so I guess it makes some sense! My prediction is that Krystal and Louisa were sisters separated at birth. Krystal knows Louisa is her sister, but Louisa doesn’t, and for some reason hates her which explains why Krystal was really happy to watch Louisa’s wedding ceremony even if it was from a distance.

What I found weird was when Louisa’s mother actually stood up in the hospital when her leg were supposedly damaged. I thought she was faking it so the wedding wouldn’t go ahead but they didn’t make any reference to it. I’m guessing its Louisa’s father who killed her mother but we’ll just have to see.

A little sneak preview ^^ I just had a look at the Drive of Life Music Video and really liked the whole orchestral thing. It gives this “grand” feel and Hacken Lee looks great as usual ^^ I do like the themesong and find it interesting that its a duet, with both Cantonese and Mandarin. I don’t think I can see much about the story from its Music Video but I feel there is a lot of Michael Miu shots..we’ll just have to see.

Adjustments to the synopsis given by TVB:

*Michael didn’t really live in Canada, but in Hong Kong.

The Drive of Life will be airring in HK the coming Monday (16th July), but won’t be until another 2 weeks before it would be released on Satellite TV in Australia. It has already been released in mandarin in China and is a joint production of TVB(HK) and CCTV(China), filmed to celebrate the 10 years Anniversary of the handover of Hong Kong back to China from Great Britain.

Personally the theme around automobiles doesn’t sound that appealing to me but I will probably give it a go because its a grand production with a huge cast and Raymond Lam is in it ^^ I hope it will turn out to be a great series, though I don’t have that high expectation from it. Anyone else looking forward to it?

Comments:

Personally I find this poster sorta creepy! I just got the impression the two women in the middle are putting a fake smile on lol. What’s more scary is the mirror showing their backs which don’t seem to match the clothing they are wearing o.0 I didn’t read about what the series is about, so its just coming from random thoughts! I hope this series would be a great one! I only saw the trailer for this series once in the commercials but it happened so quickly I didn’t grasp anything XD
