Warning: Ending Spoiler!!
[All my posts contain spoilers, but this is the ending, so an extra warning message ^__^]
Before watching the final episode, I’ve heard lots of comments saying the ending was very sad and tragic (shocking?) so I was trying to imagine the worse ending possible. I wasn’t looking forward to episode 20 after seeing the happy ‘ending like’ thing happening in episode 19 because I knew it wasn’t going to end that way. I think it might of been this thought I had at the back of my mind; I thought I would hate the ending.

It was sad and tragic ; but I liked the ending. Its different (a little odd), but it worked for me.
If the series ended with episode 19, the series would of had a happy ending but I wouldn’t be as satisfied. I guess its because Louisa’s character doesn’t end up dying yet and seeing all the bad things Louisa had done, I don’t think she’ll change for the better. She continued to speak as if she suffered so much but I personally don’t think she is tortured or had suffered enough for everything he has done.

Leila’s character faced a really sad tragic death scene. I had a feeling Leila wouldn’t accept Jack and this series would probably be its first I’ve seen where a main character girl doesn’t get moved by all the things the main character guy(for her) did for her. She rejected him again and again (from the first episode till last) , numerous times even after he waited for her for 4 years! (to get out of jail) His proposal failed after all they have been through together, but perhaps somewhere inside her she had already gotten used to having him by her side when she needed someone. So when Jack told her that he had to leave, going back to England and possibly never returning (because his mother had already found him a potential partner and he felt that he couldn’t win Leila’s heart), Leila becomes disturbed (it bothered her, if that was the word) and Krystal commented that it was because she was getting jealous. Eventually Krystal convinces Leila to consider him and Leila planned to go back to England with him. Why did she have to follow Louisa? ? ? Louisa lures Leila to follow her and attacks her from behind! After their final talk, Leila gets beaten to death!! Louisa threw Leila into a box
and nailed it…the sad thing is- at the time, Jack and Krystal didn’t even know. When Krystal arrived at the wharf and she saw Leila wandering around, she should have went out to look for her after seeing she didn’t

return for so long! Wouldn’t they think something might of happened to her? They do that a lot in other TVB Series =( Instead, while Leila was getting beaten and struggling to use her last breath to open up the nailed box she was in, the two did nothing except sit and wait!! T_T
They were waiting for Leila to show up, but for the audience, it was like they were waiting for her to die T_T Eventually, Jack leaves, thinking that Leila wouldn’t come, possibly because she changed her mind.
“Ma Hak (Jack Wu’s character) , all these years, no matter what happens..you’d always be by my side. But why aren’t you here this time..why?”-Leila
“Remember to help me say good bye to her“-Jack (getting ready to leave) to Krystal
*As Jack walks away into the ship, Leila uses her last energy and slips the marble out of the box.*
“Good bye…”-Leila

I really liked Leila’s final scene. I didn’t want Leila’s character to die or anything, but I thought it was well captured. It took Leila’s death before Krystal realised that Louisa had to die. It was Krystal’s “stupidity” of believing Lousia again and again that caused Leila to die. At the end, Krystal helps Leila take revenge by shooting Louisa at the execution place..
There were 2 parts in this episode I would have been really annoyed if they had left it like that. Firstly would be the part when the marble covered in blood rolled out to Krystal. If she was so dumb not to realise, especially seeing Louisa suspiciously run off from that direction that would have been very frustrating! Secondly would be the part Krystal said she’ll kill Louisa. If Krystal let Louisa go, that would have been one of the most annoying endings ever.
Characters looking 4 years later: I thought Krystal’s hair looked bad on her. It looks like she’s wearing a wig, yet still looked kind of bald. It’s just four years, but TVB seems to like to add a mustache on characters, i.e Jack just to make them look older XD
Series Overall?
The series had kept me interested throughout but there’s just too many flaws for me to like this series. In a sense, it was annoying to watch yet I wanted to know what would happen. e.g characters like Krystal. She’s supposed to be one of the main character, the kind-hearted one whom we’re supposed to feel sympathy for but she becomes so “dumb” and easily tricked that it becomes frustrating to watch! It’s her character that causes other characters to get hurt, in danger, and sadly, even die. There were also lots of flaws in the storyline that made it feel unrealistic and appear too much of a co-incidence, jamming in lots of things in an episode which made it exciting yet lacking something solid.
I actually quite liked Sunny’s character and the complex situation he was in: trying to satisfy his mother, having to marry a women he didn’t love, constantly blackmailed having his status/position/reputation holding him back from being with Krystal or saving her (the women whom he loved). There were times I questioned how much he actually loved Krystal’s character but as you watch on, you can really tell he cares about her and their son. Because he was a filial son, his mother was the greatest force holding him back because he didn’t want his mother to die. At the end, Sunny kept his words and saved Krystal, gave up his position and was able to live happily ever after with Krystal and their son at Switzerland. I quite like Sunny in more serious series.
Phoenix Rising?

After completing the series, I still don’t know where the title came from. Maybe there’s a reference to something I’m not aware of, but I don’t see how that connects with anything..Who’s the Phoenix? Louisa? Krystal? o.0?
The series is getting more exciting! Louisa’s father-in-law (Ben’s father) catches on to the truth when he findsLouisa’s father wandering around himself down the streets in bad condition (and still crazy from before) who seems to have sneaked back to Shanghai himself. Ben’s father takes him to the mental hospital where Krystal and Jack happen to be at that time as well. Krystal and the Louisa’s father seem to communicate to each other to some extent (saying what a lovely person Louisa is) and Jack angrily comments on all the bad things Louisa has done.

Louisa’s adopted father= Yin Faat. Louisa: “Pui Wu” (real name “Choi Yiu”)
Louisa’s adopted father (to the nurse who has just walked out): Miss…the black goldfish..
Jack (to Louisa’s adopted father): Are you “Yin Faat”?
Krystal (to Jack): You can’t be so rude, call “Uncle Yin”.
Jack (to Louis’s adopted father): Be a good boy and tell the doctor why you came here
Louisa’s adopted father( to Krystal): Who is he? Why does he keep mumbling on. Ah, Louisa is still the good girl.
*Louisa’s adopted father and Krystal nodded in agreement* Ben’s father walks to the door and hears their conversation.
Jack (to Louisa’s adopted father): It’s Louisa who caused the death of your wife! It’s because your wife didn’t let her get married, so she pushed her down the stairs.
Krystal: No..she won’t. Louisa is a good girl. (To Louisa’s adopted father) You and Mrs. Yin both love her, she wouldn’t. Pui Wu..Pui Wu..what a lovely name….Pui Wu
Louisa’s adopted father: Yeh, ‘Pui Wu’ is the name my wife and I gave a lot of thought into naming.
Jack: Yeh you adopted her only to help you block off your bad luck, of course you spent a lot of thought. You took her in and treated her like your black goldfish. You might as well name her “Black Gold Fish”
Krystal :”Uncle Yin”, out of us three sisters, ‘Choi Yiu'(Louisa’s real name) is the smartest!
Jack(to Krystal): Krystal, Wake up! She’s the one who tricked you, her real sister, to take her place in prison. She’s the one who took your son; it’s your son, to be a decoy. When you two (referring to her and Leila) were escaping from jail, she called the cops to arrest you. You’re like this now all thanks to her for pushing your adopted mother down the stairs! Please, wake up, see your sister’s true face!
Louisa went to the mental hospital, finding out that a certain patient wasn’t crazy at all but pretending to be crazy so she didn’t have to go back to jail to face death. Louisa blackmails her to give Krystal drug injections so that Krystal won’t ever recover again. Krystal condition becomes worse than she had originally after seeing her mother’s death.
Ben’s father decides to test Louisa, and he took her father home with him. He found out that Louisa had visited the mental hospital earlier, but she pretended she didn’t go at all.
Ben’s father plans to send Ben away to Singapore to help him do some business, but it was an excuse to get him away for awhile. He gets Louisa to stay, saying that she would want to stay to take care of her adopted father. The coming night was Ben’s father’s brithday and the family prepares for the celebration. Lousia ends up learning from her crazy adopted father that he and Ben’s father had actually seen Krystal at the Mental Hospital! Geez, this is annoying! How come Louisa’s father never says anything bad about her to anyone else, yet ends up leaking out ‘useful’ information to her instead??
While walking by Ben’s father’s room, Louisa overhears Ben’s father instructing another man to send Louisa away, making sure she won’t come back and hiding this fact from Ben and his mother. Louisa realises that Ben’s father knows the truth and plans to get rid of him. It is always at times like these when someone knows the trtuh, they don’t end up tellling anyone else abou it..Louisa ends up using her adopted father, lying to him that Ben’s father is forcing her to marry him! She tells him that she doesn’t

want to, but he’s a very powerful man, and wants to use her to block off his bad luck. Krystal’s adopted father goes out-of-control saying he won’t let anyone marry his daughter because she was there to protect him! Louisa gives him a knife, teaching him that it was better that Ben’s father die, rather than he die himself…
Louisa’s father stabs Ben’s father but luckily he didn’t die. However, the doctor said that he may never wake up again and Ben’s mother becomes very upset and angry; blaming Louisa for bringing bad luck to the family. Louisa was also the one who suggested to keep her father in the house. She doesn’t want to see Louisa again! I was quite happy that Ben’s mother blames it on Louisa. It may not appear that it was directly her fault, but the truth was that she was the cause!
On the other hand, Sunny successfully gets elected (as president?) and he goes back on his words, saying he’s not going to use the certain power to free Krystal! It turns out that his wife blackmailed him, gathering evidence that Sunny’s mother had killed a certain politician. If he was to save Krystal, Sunny’s mother would have to face death sentence…

Jack proposes to Leila in jail, saying that he’ll wait for her to come out of prison and they could move over to Switzerland (with Sunny and Krystal) to start over.
In this episode, Louisa deliberately lures Krystal out by pushing a statue onto Krystal’s son who ends up in hospital. Upon hearing the news on the radio, Krystal rushes out to see him and she falls for her trap. Once again, Krystal’s character really annoyed me for sneaking to the hospital! Sunny’s bodyguard stopped her from going out, yet she refused to listen! she ends up going anyway~ Lousia has already taken the boy away and the two sisters have their confrontation talk. I find it so wrong that Louisa blames her “ruined” wedding on Krystal, ‘thus she must die or she’ll never live in peace” What kind of logic is that? Louisa ends up blowing the whistle to alert the police of finding the escaped criminal and starts chasing Krystal when she started running away. They bump into Krystal’s adopted mother who attempts to stop Louisa, and in the midst of it, Louisa pushes her off to the next floor and dies! Krystal witnesses this and becomes so shocked that she faints. Now being captured again, she was sent to the hospital where they realise she has become mentally impaired…
Sadly because of Krystal’s recklessness, her adopted mother dies! What makes me more angry is the fact Louisa killed Krystal’s adopted mother, yet no one saw! She could make up any story to tell the police..

Louisa and Krystal’s confrontation at the hospital

Krystal witnesses her adopted mother’s death

The other prisoners realised that Krystal has been captured again =(

Krystal’s imaginary world while she has gone insane. She imagines the whole family getting along happily and that she has officially married to Sunny. Sunny’s mother has also accepted her as her daughter in-law and her adopted mother is still alive. Lousia and Leila are also there holding hands and they brng along their favourite grapes for thie family picnic.

Louisa continues to find Krystal at the Mental Hospital, hoping she would die.

Krystal captured. Leila is sadden that she can’t recognise her..
While browsing through my computer, I found a whole bunch of Bosco and Tavia screencaptures that I’ve previously made from Heart of Greed while I was watching it, but didn’t end up putting them up on this blog. I remember that I wanted to make a post just for them because Tavia just looks sooo pretty =D and I quite like this couple. So, here they are! ^^ (Not in any particular order)

Charmaine and Raymond are both quite intelligent here! Their rivalry for the land is quite interesting to watch: The owner of the land is offering to sell the land to the one who can get him this specific pen to add to his collection (which he was missing) so the two were to compete for it. I found him quite suspicious when Raymond told him he was Damien’s son. His reaction seemed like he was Damien’s arch enemy or something; a good opportunity to take revenge. Charmaine started broadcasting on the radio pretending that she had lost the pen that her father had given to her for her 12th birthday, just before he tragically died in a boat accident, in hope for people to contact her if they happen to find it. Upon hearing this, Raymond pranks her back by calling her and pretending that the ‘he’ had the pen and decided to meet up with her. Just when the ship started moving, Raymond calls her and tells her that she’s been fooled, hehe. It turned out the pen he was looking for belonged to his father and he takes it to be claimed the winner. The man seemed amused that he was able to obtain the pen that belonged to Damien..I don’t think Damien would be very pleased if he found out Raymond gave his pen away without asking..
Raymond excitingly told Feng about the Hot Spring Hotel going ahead and started suggesting that if they started a business there (before the Hotel was built, because the value of the land would start rising) , the Hotel will bring lots of rich people, thus a lot of business and customers for them. Thinking that the news was reliable, Feng manages to convince his fellow work mates about the idea and they all put more and invest inn starting up the business.
On the other hand, Power’s deceptive plans have been revealed by Damien and because it was detrimental to the company, Power gets sacked from management. In attempted to save his brother Michael, Damien claims that Michael was sent by him to help gather evidence, thus was not involved with the criminal act. This causes Power to hate Michael, thinking he back-stabbed him when Michael was actually clueless on what his brother had planned for him. This causes more conflict between the brothers, with Michael agreeing to his second brother that Damien always thinks he’s right. He wants people to follow this road and what he wants, but never considers others’ feelings nor gives any respect to his brothers and what they want.
Sheren and Power’s father ends up dying from Cancer and they blame it on Damien for trying to swallow up the company for himself. When Power attempted to beat up Michael, Sheren defended him, saying that he’ll never do anything to betray them. This is when Power ends up telling his sister that Michael has been unfaithful to her, sleeping with the flight attendant. Sheren becomes very upset, demanding a divorce!
On the next day when they were getting ready for his funeral, Toby (playing Michael and Sheren’s daughter) comes back. They refused to allow Damien to attend..

Very very annoyed. I was quite happy with the first half of the episode. The second half was really annoying to watch. Specifically.. Krystal’s character. She is SO ANNOYING!
I hated Krystal’s stupidness. People might disagree because they see this as kindness in her and her love for others before herself, but I personally don’t even feel sorry for her anymore! Sometimes I can’t even bare to watch the series..because of what she does…! Its like she’s asking for it!
In this episode, Nancy ends up giving birth to her baby earlier and dying in the process because of the one of the guard ‘So Wai’. All the prisoners become so angry they ended up attempting to kill him off. I enjoyed all the chasing because I hated the guy myself. He deserves to die! He was such a coward that he ended up running and locking himself in a room so they couldn’t get him. They eventually set the room on fire to force him out and they continued to beat him up and torture him. Sunny ends up escaping and making back to the jail in time to stop the other Jail Officers from using guns to tame the prisoners. He ends up using his title and attempted to negotiate with the prisoners, namely Krystal, so they can release ‘So Wai’. In the food that Sunny gave, there was a message in the bun which told her to escape through the basement again. With the help of the other prisoners, Krystal manages to escape successfully! They negotiated that they would surrender in condition that all the guards put down their weapons and guns while they came out. Slowly, each of the prisoners came out but Krystal and Leila were no where to be seen. When the evil-turned-good prisoner came out holding Nancy’s baby, she pretended that one of the guards were directing a gun at her and deliberately caused confusion and chaos! We then see Krystal (dressed up as a guard -So Wai’s clothes I’m assuming) chasing after Leila.
Leila ends up falling over and twisting her ankle and she kept telling Krystal to go on without her but Krystal kept insisting to escape with her. This was one of the parts I got really frustrated: Krystal should just go! She eventually does after so much convincing and we see her slowly jog her way. She actually stops and smiles when she sees Sunny on the other side. ‘Run already!!! Hug later!!!! The series is really testing my patience!!’ Eventually they do escape and Sunny tells her that she would need to be in hiding for 2 weeks. After 2 weeks, she can be legally freed (not sure how that works, I thought that man was dead already). But what does she do instead? She goes to the Church because she misses her son and hopes to see him! Does she not understand? ??? She is a criminal!! Just wait 2 weeks and everything would be all good, but no..she has to go out and cause so much trouble, putting her own life in danger and everyone else!! If she gets captured again, she’s gone! She is so stupid.. Sunny sees her and Sunny’s wife ends up finding out as well!
I feel like this post was is full of ranting. It need to get the frustration out..argh!!!
