I decided to dedicate my first Poll for Men Don’t Cry ^^ simply because it is one of my favourite series of the year yet it does not seem to gain the praise and attention it deserves. One factor I believe was the promotional poster and its casts..most Dayo Wong supporters have given him a go, but those who didn’t feel much for him (like myself) thought the cast did not look good enough. Perhaps it was because the cast were older and “ugly” . This was my opinion anyway. Most people gave up on the series after the first few episode, I myself almost did, but I’m really glad I didn’t because the series picks up so well after and it has been a series I was really addicted to watching til the end.

I really hope that more TVB viewers will watch this series. Dayo can make you hate him so much at the start, yet pity and feel so much for his character as the story goes on. It’s a very enjoyable series after the first few episodes which is why I’ve been trying to promote this series on my blog, with episodic summaries etc.

Hope you guys will trust me and give this series a go =)

Another good episode!! Gan Yan Geen (Dayo) has turned so likable and heroic <3 I enjoyed watching the rescuing scene and how worried he was when Cecilia got captured; going to save her despite the possibility of being out numbered. Wong Fei Hong and the other police guy calls hims reckless and not dealing with the situation rationally (they want to ‘take their time’ and plot to capture the villains), but I fully support Dayo. To the police guy, and I guess also Wong Fei Hong (because he supports the police), the girls are not their first priority. Even when they cut the police guy’s wife’s hair and sent it back to them, requesting to exchange money earlier, they chose to sit and wait.

Dayo hears Cecilia’s voice, crying for help and he rushes to her voice to see her knocked unconscious and being abducted. As he chases, he gets knocked from behind.

In the captured scene, the police’s wife, thinking they would die soon asks Cecilia who is on her mind. Cecilia remembers the moments she spent with Dayo and starts smiling. Cecilia gets drawn back to reality when the police’s wife interrupts, saying she must be thinking of Wong Fei Hong. At the moment just before death, you would want to see your most loved one.. This scene is like a reconfirmation for Cecilia, knowing the one she loves is Dayo and not Wong Fei Hong. Looking at the expression on her face, we can clearly see she does not feel that way for Wong Fei Hong, in fact, looks a bit disgusted (maybe not that extreme but yeh..)

A neat little small scene, that continues on from the place Cecilia is captured. She starts calling out his name for help, and Dayo senss/hears it. “Who?” Dayo didn’t see anyone, so figured he was probably hallucinating.

Dayo finds Cecilia! Cecilia was so happy Dayo came to save her..it surprised her because she thought the ‘hero’ Wong Fei Hong would be the one to come and save them instead. Unfortunately, Dayo gets captured as well. Dayo eventually manages to untie himself and during some interaction with the kidnappers, the place gets set on fire.

Dayo ends up holding up parts that were about to fall and block off the exit. Wong Fei Hong makes it to the scene and Dayo tells her to go and escape. Cecilia stops and said she wants to be with him, and that she won’t go herself and leave him behind. Dayo then tells Wong Fei Hong to take Ceiclia away, before its too late..

After rescuing them out, Wong Fei Hong was about to go back and save Dayo when huge flames blast out of the hut…and she starts to scream in tears “Don’t Die!!”

Turns out Dayo had escaped from the back and they were relieved he was ok…and he faints.

When Cecilia wakes up in hospital, she immediately asks how Dayo was, but her family still had grudges against him, saying that he was useless, and the one that saved her was Wong Fei Hong. Later, Cecilia learns from Wong Fei Hong that Dayo was very worried about her the whole time, and risked his life to saveher without a second thought. When Wong Fei Hong acknowledges to her that Dayo was the one who had saved her and that she should thank Dayo personally. Cecilia was really happy that someone supported her in thanking Dayo and rushes off to see him in hospital. She was very nervous while going there, but stops near the door when she sees Vivien and Benz with Dayo and remembers that Vivien and Dayo were a ‘couple’ now. She end sup leaving and does not end up thanking him..If she really didn’t feel the slightest sadness seeing her sister and Dayo together, she would have went in to thank Dayo.

Now Benz and Dayo treat each other like real father and son and I just found that really sweet ^^; There’s a scene where Benz was telling Dayo that Wong Hei Hong had said some things about him and Dayo wanted to know what was said about him. Benz tells him that he’ll tell if he calls him ‘father’, and Dayo quickly says it readily and easily that Benz was surprised because he said it so quickly and willingly, that he wasn’t ready for it XD There’s also a latter scene where Dayo is talking to Wong Hei Hong and he ‘unconsciously’ refers to Benz as his father, then quickly making a correction ^^;
More evidence of Dayo changing was the fact Dayo didn’t care if Wong Fei Hong got all the credit for saving the girls as long as he (Dayo) is happy (saving his loved one) <3 so sweet! . That is a major change! Shocked Benz who thought it was unfair to Dayo lol

Dayo was carrying a piece of BBQ Pork where he noticed a fat little boy had been following him the whole time for the food and ends up openly giving the meat to the little one ~

I’m glad that Cecila has finally had the courage to not go ahead with her marriage with Wong Fei Hong because she knows the one she loves is Dayo. She tells Wong Fei Hong how she really feels about him ..that he is really boring XD

“I like someone who is fun, make jokes and plays around with me, sometimes he would make me angry, then I can yell back at him. But when I’m with Master Wong, other than collecting herbs, writing medical prescription, practice Kung Fu..there’s nothing else. Even though I’ve learned a lot, but I still feel that I’m missing some interest. Master- Wong, you’re a good person, I don’t want to ‘gu-fu'(I don’t know how to translate) you , just blame that I don’t have that sort of luck. I hope you will understand, sorry.”

Note: Up to this point, Dayo has gained the respect of Wong Fei Hong and looks up to him as his master.

Vivien cheering up Dayo- Find the Crystal

I find this scene kind of cute because it reminds me of the cute times Vivien and Dayo shared when she was still mentally impaired and she tried to cheer up Dayo using his favourite hat (Episode 9)

Vivien is trying to cheer up Dayo, and pulls up a hat puppet.

Puppet (Vivien changing her voice) : Ah Book, Ah Book (Name of Dayo’s hat) , Geen-gor always seem to down these days, *Dayo turns and looks at the puppet* I wonder who offended him. *Dayo doesn’t look pleased and turns around again*Can you help me cheer him up?

Dayo: Ah, I’m not in the mood to play these silly things today.

Puppet: Geen-gor, Geen-gor, if you smile again, then I will kiss you.

*Dayo turns his head around again and faces the puppet*
Dayo: Wah! What’s this? There *Dayo smiles, showing his teeth. Vivien gets the puppet hat to touch Dayo’s cheeks.*

Puppet: Muah!
Dayo: Hey that means you’re just tricking a person who is very down.
Vivien: No.. you’re smiling now so that’s good. Sister’s technique really works.
Dayo: Your sister taught you to do this!?
Vivien: Yeh, my sister helped me make all these stuff.
Dayo: No wonder! Pig, doesn’t look like a pig. Dog, doesn’t look like a dog.
Vivien: No..I think it’s pretty good! Sister is actually quite thoughtful. Whomever can marry her would be their luck.
Dayo: Who else is there? Wong Fei Hong will be sleeping with her soon, maybe they already did and you just don’t know.
Vivien: Why would that be, Master Wong is a decent man, and he is also Kei- Street’s hero. If sister can really marry him, then she’ll must be very happy.
*Dayo starts getting very annoyed*
Dayo: Yeh they can have a wedding ceremony everyday.

*Vivien notices a crystal on the ground and picks it up*
Vivien: Geen-gor, look how pretty this is! Looks like glass and its shiny and twinkling.
Dayo: Looks so familiar… *Dayo walks over to Vivien, takes it off her and looks at it. Flashback is shown and he remembers the cave scene when he picked it for Cecilia. He also remembers how Cecilia told him it was the first present she has ever received from a guy, apart from her family *

Vivien: Geen-gor? Geen-gor, what are you thinking about?
Dayo: Er, this thing looks like its worth lots of money. And you know recently..my situation..why don’t you..
Vivien: As long as you’re happy, I’ll give it to you.
*Dayo instantly thanks her and quickly puts it in his pocket*
Vivien: Geen-gor, the most important thing is being happy, don’t be angry at So-gor (Benz) anymore.
Dayo: When do I have the time to be angry at him? I’ve been disposing manure all day (community service as punishment), I’m praying each day that he would have excellent health, so that we can go to sleep after we’re done with disposing. Speaking of such, I’m going to get some sleep now.

I thought this scene was quite neat for Dayo and Cecilia’s relationship. Cecilia buried the crystal in episode 14 , but he finds it the next episode. By finding an excuse to keep the crystal, Dayo was trying to hold onto his memories with Cecilia, and he knew that Cecilia treasured the crystal as well. Dayo may have thought that either Cecilia dropped it, or threw it away now that she has Wong Fei Hong (the latter being more likely), but she was really letting go of their past as Vivien and Dayo are together now and she wants to wish them both happiness. I wonder if Dayo knew Cecilia still had feelings for him and that perhaps being with Vivien was a way to make Cecilia jealous. Either way, the crystal symbolises what they once had.. (even though back then it was fake)

Cecilia to marry Wong Fei Hong- Dayo gets upset
In this scene, Cecilia has brought along some breakfast for Wong Fei Hong and his students and we see Dayo sitting on the side with Benz, and when Cecilia offers the bowl to Wong Fei Hong, Dayo is imitating her and looks away, showing how annoyed he is. Wong Fei Hong’s Sok Gong comes in the scene and helps Cecilia wear on a Jade Bracket which is supposedly for the Wong family’s daughter-in-law. Cecilia refuses to accept it, but he kept on insisting. He also tells her that he’ll help propose for the wedding to her parents soon and starts telling the other disciples to start calling her ‘Si-mo’ (Master’s wife). A broken bowl sound could be heard and they turn towards Benz and Dayo is no longer in the scene. When asked what had happened, Benz suggested that Dayo possibly lost grip of the bowl..

Cecilia and Vivien- The sisterly talk

Cecilia is looking at the Jade Bracelet she received and Vivien walks into the room.

Vivien: Sister? What are you looking at so deep into thought about? You miss Master Wong, isn’t it?
*Cecilia’s face expression seems to have gone a bit awkward* (It was obvious that up to this point Cecilia did not love Wong Fei Hong)

Vivien: Sister, I want to buy something for you as a wedding present. Do you want accessories or clothing?
Cecilia: That nice? Do you have money to buy?
Vivien: I’m currently discussing about continuing filming, and the producers want me in another series. I’m still considering it now.
Cecilia: Sister, I can’t believe you’re so smart and capable now. The whole time I’ve been worried about you the most. I’m relieved now seeing you now like this.
Vivien: All this time, you’ve been supporting the whole family. Now, not only can I look after myself, I can look after my family members too. You can happily go and marry.
Cecilia: You knowing how to think like this, is proof that you’ve grown up now. As for your sister, things are hard to guess..maybe, at the end I won’t end up getting married.
Vivien: You call that not being able to marry? Sister, what are you talking about?
Cecilia: I just think that everything happened too quickly, I feel like I’m dreaming.
Vivien: Speaking of this, I feel its a bit sudden too. I never thought that you would like Master Wong. Even though he is a great person, and the hero of Kei-Street, but I think hes personality is a bit wooden. Whoops, sorry sister.
Cecilia: Doesn’t matter, he really is wooden. But mother has always taught us that for women, the most important thing is to marry a good husband. I trust Master Wong will be a good husband.
Vivien: That’s right I guess, but I still think that if the parter is more interesting, then life would be more happier.

*Vivien starts smiling to herself*
Cecilia: What are you thinking about, that’s making you smile?
Vivien: Just thinking about Geen-gor (Dayo). Even if he doesn’t say anything, he looks funny.
Cecilia: How have you two been lately?
Vivien: Ever since Dayo got a ‘father’ , he’s got more love and less anger and hatred. You know how last time you taught me to use the puppet hat to cheer him up? He was really happy! He even gave me a flower! Look~

Some more neat scenes! ~

During a scene in their filming, Vivien is tied up and hung at the ceiling, while Dayo ‘her prince’ is fighting the villain to save her! Wong Fei Hong is pulling the rope which is tied to Vivien. The silly Wong Fei Hong is sweating a lot (so much for being a powerful martial artist XD) and so Cecilia helps wipe the sweat off this face. While Dayo is ‘fighting’ with the villain, he sees the two and gets jealous, knocking away the villain’s sword and it flies towards Wong Fei Hong. Wong Fei Hong kicks the sword away and it cuts the rope tied to Vivien so she falls! Without much thought, Dayo runs and catches her. Saving her life, Vivien is really happy and kisses Dayo on the cheeks. Cecilia sees and starts questioning their relationship, but Dayo tries to avoid the question and leaves with Vivien to rest.

Dayo: I’m not joking, I think it’s broken (referring to his arm)
Vivien: You’re seriously hurt, and before you had to.. *slaps Dayo on the arm but then realises it hurts* ..sorry!

Dayo: Doesn’t matter, seeing your sister (Cecilia)’s angry face is worth it. *laughs*
*Cecilia and Wong Wei Hong enters the room*
Cecilia: Gaan Yan Geen, you still haven’t answered me clearly, what relationship do you have with my sister? *Pushes his shoulder and Dayo calls out in pain*

Wong Fei Hong: He might of broken his arm, let me have a look first.
Cecilia: Talk, are you two dating? Are you being serious about my sister? *Dayo makings painful noises as Wong Fei Hong is massaging it* Don’t avoid my question! Answer me!

Dayo: No I can’t, master (referring to WongFei Hong), let me rest a bit first.
Wong Fei Hong: You’ll be fine.
Vivien to Cecilia: Sister, don’t ask anymore, Dayo is really injured. He’s actually really gentle and caring to me. Even if you object, I’ll still be with-*grabs onto Dayo and he yells out in pain again* Sorry, Dayo!
Cecilia: The truth is… I didn’t plan to object the two of you being together. I saw the way he risked his life to save you just then, I can tell he likes you. But sister, you have to remember, if ever ever treats you badly, or hurts you, you must leave him immediately.
Vivien: Don’t worry sister. Dayo will never do that. You saw how he saved me just then, you should know how much he cares about me. Actually, since the day he helped cure my heart-illness (psychological mental problem), he’s been looking after me.
Cecilia: Gaan Yan Geen, since you’re seeing my sister, you must always respect her. And also, you can’t hurt her, you understand?
*Dayo is sitting there with his eyes closed*
Cecilia knocks him again. “You understand??”
*Dayo pretends to of woke up*
Vivien: Sister, Dayo knows.

I think it interesting that Dayo never admitted it himself, but he doesn’t say anything either to deny it. he doesn’t answer Cecilia’s question at all or say anything. Even up to this point, but I don’t think Dayo ever loved Vivien that way..though he likes her like a sister or something. he cares about her a lot but its just different to what he feels for Cecilia.

Next scene, we see Cecilia sitting by herself near the shore and she takes out the crystal that Dayo had given her back in episode 5 which was wrapped in a handkerchief. She gets flashbacks of the happy memories she had with Dayo. Keeping on the crystal was a sign of her cherishing the moments with Dayo.

“Forget, forget the past. As long as he treats your sister well, and your sister likes it, you’ll be happy.”

Cecilia then buries the crystal in the dirt by the shore. This symbolises the end of her hope with being with Dayo. She didn’t bury it very deep though ^^;

In the following scene, we see Dayo and Benz together on the streets and Dayo is happily singing along:

” ..Where is my girl..where ”

Benz: Ah, with parental love, even singing is a bit sweeter. You’re all great now, announcing that Vivien is your lover publicly.
Dayo: Envy don’t ya?
Benz: I don’t envy at all. When I was young, so many beautiful young girls were after me.
Dayo: What?
Benz: Only I refused. For your mother, I stood firmly. I didn’t want any of them so that’s why now I’m lonely by myself.
Dayo: Speaking of such, I feel a bit of regret/dissatisfaction.
Benz: What regret?
Dayo: Like,Vivien and I are considered good looking and clever, perfect match yeh? But when compared with master (Wong Fei Hong) and Bucktooth Ghost (Cecilia)..one is a total fake in righteousness and heroic, one pretends to be caring and gentle, when I see them two together I get the chills.

In this episode, Dayo finds out that Benz is not his real father (because in the photo, his father has a birth mark on his hands). Dayo has grown to warm up to Benz being his real father, but finds out he has tricked him the whole time. I felt sorry for him…you can tell that he cared about his ‘father’ a lot, being a filial son and getting him a golden plate thing that was said to protect him against bad luck for the year because of his Chinese zodiac for the year. Benz hadn’t realised that Dayo actually loved his ‘father’ so much because of the way Dayo used to treat him. Dayo just didn’t want to show his love of his father…but deep down Benz was really important to him.

The scene where the bad guys capture Dayo was quite exciting as well. Benz managed to escape but sees that a poisonous pin has poked into him (one which would kill instantly) but notices that he was ok, to realise it was because he was wearing the golden plate that Dayo had got for him~~awww!!!! We see Benz in dilemma whether to be selfish and run away with the ‘treasure’ or to be ‘dumb’ and go back to save Dayo whom isn’t even his real son (despite developing feelings). I really like the bond between them, they did share and develop a relationship together…and I thought that was so sweet! After seeing what the ‘treasure’ was, Benz ran back to save Dayo ^^ The following runaway scene and fight scene were fun to watch. Great teamwork~ and use of traps, even though I find it odd how all those traps were set.

(About episode 33-35)

Yoyo goes to Moses and tries to comfort him as he starts to break down again because of Gigi’s death. Moses  getting drunk and even ends up sleeping with Yoyo! I get the feeling Yoyo wasn’t exactly drunk, and slept with him because she secretly loved him, but Moses does not know her feelings for him and gets shocked the next morning when he realised what had happened.

Later on, Moses goes to apologise to Yoyo about what had happened that night but Yoyo pretends that she’s fine with it and doesn’t expect him to marry her to take on any responsibility. She tries to act normal as if it didn’t affect her much and just wants to be friends like they were before, but deep down she wants to be with him.

On another note, Kevin’s brother Tim (played by Ben Wong) kidnaps Kevin and blackmails his own family for money. Hearing about the kidnapping, Moses wanted to be involved in the case and the head let him help out with the small bits rather than taking action. On one hand, Ben pretends to be a good brother trying to save Kevin, while the other hand working with the other kidnappers in retrieving the money.

Ben ends up misleading the police in thinking the bag of money which they were exchanging for Kevin was placed in the telephone booth, but in fact it was already switched onto another bag and Ben pretends to go to the bathroom, successfully escaping from the police that was watching over him.

Moses was with ‘Lulu’ at Kevin’s house listening to the recording over and over again when Moses hears a faint helicopter noise in the background and the two head off to the scene where the kidnappers were. Kevin ends up freeing the ropes around his wrists, cutting the rope from some rocks, realising that his brother was actually involved in the kidnapping! He ends up taking Ben as hostage against the other kidnappers but Ben ends up stabbing Kevin with a metal pipe! At that moment, Moses arrived and seeing the two brothers had fainted onto the ground, the two chase after the other two kidnappers where Moses and Lulu get shot. Moses ends up capturing the two, and after calling the police and ambulance for backup, he heads back to the house himself where Kevin and Ben were. He kicks Ben over to find him unconscious and walks over to Kevin whom slowly gets up.

Kevin: I’m not dead yet. Are you really disappointed? That’s right, you’re the one who saved me. I should say ‘thanks’ to you instead.

Moses: There’s no need to rush. You’ll die real soon. Your blood hasn’t leaked dried yet. Once it leaks out, things will start to look blurry, and then you’ll lose consciousness. Won’t be long.

*Kevin looks down at the blood and metal pipe stabbed in him.*

Kevin: Not that fast, you’re not even dead yet. I wouldn’t want to die yet. And also, the Government promised that the ambulance will arrive within six minutes. I can hold on.

Moses: Let’s see if they can even find us first.

Kevin: God is so nice to me, arranging you to come save me. Why wouldn’t they be able to find us? I know you really want me to die, *Kevin starts laughing* but you had to be a police. You can’t not save me.

*Moses takes out his gun and points it at Kevin’s head*

Kevin: Want to kill me? Come, fire the gun. Come, kill me. You’re a police. Kill me, fire the gun, go fire..

*Moses moves the gun away*

Moses: I won’t fall for it again.

*Sound of ambulance can be heard*

Kevin: It’s here, and they didn’t even need six minutes. Damn, you must be real disappointed! *Kevin starts laughing again* You always lose to me!!!

*Moses grabs a piece of cloth, wraps around his hands, grabs onto the pipe in Kevin, and stabs him further*

Moses: Do you remember what I said? I said I won’t let you go.

Kevin: I will sue/report you..

*Kevin dies and Moses falls down from getting shot previously*

Moses: Gigi, I finally helped avenge you..

It turns out that Kevin’s brother was not unconscious and had witnessed Moses killing Kevin. Moses tried to shoot him, but failed as he escaped and Moses falls unconscious.

After killing Kevin, Moses tries hard to kill off Kevin’s brother because he witnessed Moses killing Kevin and feared the truth will leak out. He was acting desperately, even beating up people to find out where Ben was. He hopes to get rid of him before the police finds him.. Fire and Yoyo were getting suspicious because Moses had not put down his anger after Kevin has died.

Maggie’s husband was diagnosed with Cancer, so Maggie decided to spend more time with him and their son to accompany him for his last moments. With the encouragement from Fire, Maggie and Maggie’s son, her husband agreed to take the operation where it turned out quite successful. To avoid any further misunderstanding, Maggie tells her husband that there is no chance for him to get back with her though she’s not angry with him for leaving them anymore and tells him about his relationship with Fire. Her husband tells her that he understands and agrees to arrange for a divorce. Maggie’s son accepts it and things seem to be going so perfect for them until Fire started getting his visions again (of the future which are proven to be very accurate). Fire sees Moses shoot him with a gun and he falls down unconscious. Fire gets really worried and thinking that he would die soon starts distancing himself from Maggie, even moving out to Gigi’s home with Natalie after Gigi’s father moved to the countryside. He starts avoiding Maggie and even tries to pair her back with her ex-husband …
