FAN TUNG (Liu Kai Chi) is one of the four deities under the Stove God. He has offended the Queen Mother of the West of being ravenous and gets imprisoned for 500 years in the winter melon. By chance TIN TAI KWAI (Sunny Chan) and his wife CHUNG PIK YUK (Louisa So) free him from constraint. TUNG has crashed with KWAI’s older brother TIN TAI FU (also played by Liu Kai Chi) accidentally and his spirit enters FU’s body inexplicably while losing all his instincts.

TUNG starts living in KWAI’s house and getting closer to the family. YUK finds suspicious TUNG and she tries to unmask him by all means. Having failed in his attempt to return to Heaven, TUNG becomes reliant on the help of six little deities who assimilated his instincts released from the melon, and since then TUNG is aware of the fickleness of human nature. One day, FU’s truant wife LING FUNG (Rain Lau) suddenly returns. She ruins everything and even causes the death of KWAI. In order to get his life back, TUNG illicitly breaks into the netherworld.

Warning: Ending Spoiler!! [All my posts contain spoilers, but this is the ending, so an extra warning message ^__^]

The 82 episode Grand production has finally reached its end =] I am pleasantly surprised and relieved at how happy the ending is. Some part of me feels that its too good to be true (i.e suddenly everyone realizing what they have been doing was wrong and that fighting was meaningless). Everyone was able to let go of that selfishness, stubbornness, distrust, manipulative, scheming, vengeful heart and let go of anger and hatred. Yet another part of me can feel how it is possible. In episode 81, Lee See Kei’s video-recording scene was so touching! I cried seeing how hard she tried to ‘remind herself’ and her daughters that they were one family *sniff*. I know the things she said were simple, but it was very touching! i felt the healing effect from it and I felt that I was also  finally able to release myself, like the characters in the story, from all that has happened. I feel a burden off my back and so believe it is possible. All the characters went through so much in the story that I’m glad they’re settling down at last…

There were quite a few touching scenes, dialogues and snippets in the last episode I really liked, so decided to share here 🙂

[Bowie talking to Bosco]

It doesn’t matter if you believe me or not, in my heart, there is someone whom is more worthy of taking revenge on than you. She made me lose a relationship, and a baby. So at the end, I wanted her to give her life to me, to feel guilty for the rest of her life. But as a result, I didn’t know when I could stop, when I could finally sleep in peace- because I realised that if you go hating the person you love the most, it is impossible for the day to come in which you could stop hating her. You can’t forgive her, yet there is not way you could ever get rid of her. At the end, you don’t get anywhere and you’ll turn into a person that you would hate. That’s the result of Gou Cheung Seng (Bowie). So like I said, everything has nothing to do with you.”

Bowie talks about his love-turned-hate relationship with Sylvia (Maggie)  and I think this equally applied to Bosco’s relationship with Linda. It was this confession that made Bosco realise it was time to stop the way he treated Linda as well, and to go find her. I guess Bosco would eventually end up with Linda.

Before watching this series, I thought Linda and Bosco would be paired up together, but as the story progressed and Bosco was focusing more on “Melissa” (and his career) and Linda and Wong Hei started developing a friendship, I thought Linda had only truly  fallen for Wong Hei. Only up until near the end was it clarified that Linda realised Bosco was the one she actually liked.  I’m not so convinced actually lol or maybe I haven’t been watching her close enough! I really liked Wong Hei and Linda’s relationship in Gem, it’s too bad he only has Jessica (Ada) in his heart.

[Bowie to Maggie]

For all these years, I have always been biting at Ho Git Larm(Moses) that my mouth is becoming tasteless, I really hate it. I don’t want anything to do with him anymore, so I want to stop earlier- but it’s not  like what you said about ‘stopping because I can’t turn back’. I hope that after stopping down- having a chance to turn back, it will leave me more time

I was really moved by the last part. Bowie wants to start life again after he returns out of jail, and wants the most time possible to live ‘fresh’ . That is the reason he is giving in to the police. He believes there is a ‘turning back’, unlike what Maggie initially implied ‘There was no turning back, but giving in only to stop oneself from continuing on the wrong path’. After this, Maggie finally realised that the good Calvin was back and the two finally got back together with a hug 🙂

[Wong Hei’s Confession when Ada realised Wong Hei was turning blind because of her]

I’ve been silly for all these years already anyway. There is really more I can do for you than just this. Listen to me, when diamonds are scratched, they can be polished again and it would look the same again. But being scratched once more,  polished once more, and scratched again and polished again, the quality would decrease. You can never make up the losses from it. The diamond could never turn back into how it initially was. But my memory is good- no matter which stage the diamond is at, I’ll still remember its appearance. I remember the first Hong Ah Si (Ada), her look when I first saw her. I especially remember how she looked when she first lied to me. I remembered how she looked the first time she begged me for help. I remember the look  just now when she said ‘she will put down everything in the past and start all over’ even more. Did you know that was the same look as the first Hong Ah Si I knew? Even if I won’t be able to see again in the future, I will still remember… I really want to see your appearance again. I really want to see you

Aww, I really felt sorry for Wong Hei’s one-sided love =( He loved Jessica(Ada) from the day he met her until the end of the series (and most probably beyond as well). Even though she has married twice, his heart is only towards her. No matter how she used him, treated him, lied to him, causing him blind, he is still there by her side. It’s comforting to know that he was able to ‘see’ the  ‘old’ Hong Ah Si back 🙂

[Bowie visiting Kenny in hospital]

Bowie helps Kenny shave and starts telling him stories, reflecting on the past. He tells him that he hopes he can become the good person he has always hoped he would be. Tears rolled out of Kenny’s eyes…

[Bowie and Maggie having dinner]

Sylvia: What do you want me to do?
Calvin: Wait for me, wait for me to come back out, because I feel that there’s still a lot, a lot of things I still owe you. I don’t know when I could return them to you, so you have to wait for me to come out, ok?
Sylvia: Don’t worry, you’ll need to return the principle amount plus interest. I want you to return me for your whole life time.

Awwwwwww… <3 Calvin and Sylvia’s relationship is still my favourite, and has been through the whole series. Their love is so touching, filled with love and hate and I’m happiest for this couple the most <3 I’m  so happy they could finally be with each other. YAY! <3

[Moses and Gigi]

The two hugged each other in joy after they were able to retrieve her ring which fell down the gutters. Their love plays on ‘fate’ a lot throughout the series (e.g”Serendipity”). Here Moses was able to find the ring that symbolised Gigi’s happiness, just like Eddie (“Derek”) did in the past. Together, the two were able to get back their love for each other. There’s a hint that these two would most possibly end up with each other in the end.

And finally, onto Lee See Kei…

Tavia is now staying at Raymond’s place- helping out at the Salt Business, and taking care of Raymond and his health 🙂 Raymond’s father knows his son really likes her, and he really likes her a lot too so is always hoping they’ll end up together- it’s kinda cute lol XD

The story is progressing more into Steven’s duty and the Salt Business when another official enters into the story (I shall refer to him as the funny official). Everything’s linked together which makes it interesting. The business story is a bit complicated to explain so I guess I won’t really go there ^^;

Steven has always looked up to his god-father(who was a higher-ranked official) because he thought he was ‘clean’, non-greedy and righteous and had always wanted to be just like him. However, Steven soon finds out his godfather’s evilness and becomes totally shocked in disbelief. Along with his god father, his mother and deceased father were also “dirty”. Steven struggles to cope with the ugly truth and starts questioning if things were really black and white. He was also starting to realise what he has been doing all along -capturing those who bought/sold cheap salt), did not deserve to be punished and were meaningless, while those corrupted officials are were free…poor guy! Despite disapproving his godfather’s way, there is no way he could bring himself to betray him.

I think Steven’s godfather (did I mention before that he looks like my uncle? XD) will be the main villain in the story along with Joel Chan (once again lol) These two always seem to play evil roles!

Episode 4

Raymond’s two sisters and aunt all have grudges against Tavia and wanted her to leave the household (Raymond’s younger sister especially, since she found out Steven chose Tavia over her). They deliberately got their servant to notify Steven saying something has happened to Tavia which lured him to find her. Steven rushed off to find her when he heard and the woman came out pestering them. They started insulting Tavia and saying nasty things about her, saying she’s clinging to Raymond only for his money and is now two timing with Steven as well. Tavia felt really upset and packed her things that night and planned to leave. She wanted to say bye to Raymond but he wasn’t in his room. After being told that he went to eat with Steven, Tavia goes to find them.

[Steven and Raymond chatting]

Steven:  Because of the marriage arrangement, your younger sister is angry at me- I understand, but they shouldn’t keep picking on Tavia like that.
Raymond: Aunt is disrespectful, older sister’s mind is always unclear
Steven: it’s already really hard for Tavia losing her parents and now..
Raymond: I’ll take care of the rest of it. I definitely won’t let Tavia suffer again
Steven: Raymond, remember her identity
Raymond: Don’t worry, I definitely won’t leak any of this out.
Steven: Having you look after her, I’m relieved.

*Tavia now arrives and overhears their conversation at the door*

Steven: Don’t mind me asking, do you treat Tavia only as a friend?
Raymond: Steven, you’re thinking too much. I don’t have any love-thoughts towards her.
Steven: If you do love her, you should give her a title sooner so there won’t be any rumours spreading around.
Raymond: …I’m not good enough for her.
Steven: Why would that be?
Raymond: I am filled with illness, and I won’t live long. Could I still hope that I could be with her through life? I can’t say we’ll grow old together nor take care of her forever. I already know this, I don’t want this put her through this.
*Steven has a pitiful look on his face*
Raymond: Don’t feel sad for me- it is life and death. Don’t worry, while I’m still alive, I will still continue to take good care of Tavia. I definitely won’t let Tavia know my feelings for her. I don’t want to make things hard for her. It’ll be better for her to treat me as a brother.

Awww..the things he said were so sweet and selfless! Upon hearing this, Tavia decides to stay by Raymond’s side. I think somehow she knows he wouldn’t want her to leave and she wanted to take care of him in return too 🙂

Back at the house,  Raymond brought over some rabbit-shaped dimsims for her in hope to cheer her up and Tavia tells him that she’s ok 🙂 She wouldn’t care what others say about her because she knows that she didn’t do what they have accused of her. She tells him how he and his father treat her so well here, food, shelter and job that she wouldn’t want to leave hehe~ Tavia carved a present for Raymond as well~ some swirling wood thing that spins around in the air ^^

Raymond said he hasn’t played with it before and she showed him. The two watch out of the window as that wooden thing flew around in the air 🙂

Episode 5-6

Joel (with the support of Evil godfather) always wants to take over Raymond’s father’s position as the prime salt merchant. His position was suddenly up for grabs for the one who could offer the greatest bid and he started bribbing the other candidates. Since Raymond’s older sister, played by Halina was having an affair with Joel and hated her father, she acted as a spy and started leaking information to him, giving him the upper hand.

In the family, Raymond is the only one who can hold up his entire family and business. Everyone else is useless, and his father relies on Raymond heavily. Without him, he would be completely mucked up and not have what he has today. It’s just so sad that Raymond had to have that sickness all his life and suffer so much. Raymond becamse so weak and exhausted, yet he had to pretend that he was fine and that everything was under control, so he wouldn’t worry his father. They had to heavily borrow money and give out everything they had..

To help Raymond with his family crisis,  Tavia sneaks into Joel’s place in attempt to find out the amount he was planning to bid- it turned out to be a dollar more than what they initially planned! On the way sneaking out, Steven appears, questioning what she was doing there. The guards notice her presences and start searching for her. Steven saves her by letting her go and luring the guards to him instead. There Steven overhears Joel and his godfather’s evil conversation and evil plans…

Because Tavia found out the bidding amount, they were able to help Raymond’s father win back his position 🙂

Raymond and Tavia figured that Halina was the one who betrayed them but he couldn’t do anything to her since he was his sister.

Tavia and Steven bump into each other on the streets and she thanks him for saving her that time. After his confrontation with his god father, Steven tried to apologise to Tavia for everything in the past but she refused to hear his explanation and leaves.

On the other hand, Raymond’s father pushes him to give Tavia a pair of earrings, but he didn’t have the courage to give it to her. Raymond’s father said he’ll give it to her on his behalf, despite not having his consent. At the same time, Tavia’s friend gives her a pair of earrings and when Tavia and Raymond  bump into each other, the earrings (in a bag) drops on the floor. Seeing that Tavia cared a lot about the earrings, he mistaken those earrings were the ones passed on by his father and he quickly tried to explain himself.

“It’s not like what you think. I know that I bought it, but I never planned to give it. I’m not saying you’re not worth giving to, but it wouldn’t be good if there was any misunderstanding. It was all father’s doing, you don’t have to worry about anything he said to you. Even if it’s a present it doesn’t mean anything.”

After recently starting Sweetness in the Salt, I’ve fallen in love with the themesong <3 (and the series of course) I really like the soothing melody and along with the lyrics, it leaves me that sad bittersweet feeling inside. The lyrics reflect the feelings of the main couple and suits the series really well. I hope a full version of this song will be released soon!

How can we speak of love (Themesong to Sweetness in the Salt)

Steven:
A single shadow,  recalling the aftertaste of the past
White snow makes me gradually confused/unclear/unable to distinguish that day/sky and ground
Tavia:
Feelings that have died, should never have been remembered
Whereas I, the more I desperately try to let go/forget
Together: the more I think about it each day

Together: Clouds are flying
Steven: Accompanying me in finding you
Tavia: Directly irregular- changing weather
Steven: I still walk forward, not withdrawing

Together: White snow flying again
Steven: Not forgetting I’m waiting for you
Tavia: Hidden within my heart too much pain and sorrow
Together: How could we speak of it/Where do I begin

Ooo yay! It’s finally out 🙂 I haven’t seen Michael Miu and Kathy Chow for ages, so I’m really looking forward to seeing them again on screen. I haven’t watched The Academy and as for On the First Beat , I was really only engaged on Michael & Sonjia’s storyline (though both aren’t in this one) However, after seeing the trailers and this promotional image, I’m once again excited by all the hype haha. Hope I’ll have time to see it 🙂

Hey everyone 🙂 How have you all been lately?

Due to changing circumstances which I’ve mentioned previously, updates will be slower and not as frequent as they used to be. Adding to that, I’ll be starting full time work next week 🙂 I really like to thank all those who have been patiently awaiting for updates and have continued to support my blog by visiting despite it being in the quiet period-You guys are awesome 🙂

I’ve recently started subscribing to feeds to save myself some time- and I thought I’d let you guys know about it too (for those who don’t already know)~I really recommend it actually. Basically you’ll be notified when there are new blog entries made and it’s quite simple to use.

Watch this short simple clip and it’ll tell you all about it 🙂

And if you have any queries,  free free to ask me 🙂 Hope to see you guys subscribing to K for TVB‘s feeds ^^

The series is almost coming to an end!..and so I figured I might as well put a poll up for it to see what you guys think of it so far. I’m currently up to episode 78 and I’m surprised how fast time flies (That doesn’t necessarily mean how fast I thought the series went though lol, just time in general 😉 ) I didn’t miss a single episode of it, nor skipped any scenes~ I found the series ok- though I must admit I did find a lot of parts quite boring. Overall I would have liked the series to be shorter though the quality of the series is still quite good.

The ratings for the series haven’t been very high but I felt it does somewhat reflect how I feel about the series. It makes me wonder if its affected by the financial crisis or the series itself. If Moonlight Resonance was aired during this time, would it have also been affected this much?

The following are the ratings for the series so far:

Episode 70 – 72 – 25 PTS (Peaking At 27 PTS)
Episode 64 – 69 – 27 PTS
Episode 59 – 63 – 27 PTS
Episode 54 – 58 – 27 PTS
Episode 49 – 53 – 28 PTS (Peaking At 30 PTS)
Episode 44 – 48 – 25 PTS
Episode 39 – 43 – 25 PTS
Episode 34 – 38 – 28 PTS (Peaking At 31 PTS)
Episode 30 – 33 – 28 PTS
Episode 25 – 29 – 28 PTS
Episode 21 – 24 – 29 PTS (Peaking At 30 PTS)
Episode 16 – 20 – 29 PTS
Episode 11 – 15 – 29 PTS
Episode 06 – 10 – 28 PTS
Episode 03 – 05 – 31 PTS (Peaking At 36 PTS)
Episode 01 – 02 – 32 PTS (Peaking At 37 PTS)

The series has become so intense and the ‘battle’ is fierce. I will continue to watch until the end because I’m eager to see what happens! It’s ‘heavy’ and I want to be able to finish the series hopefully with that off my back haha.

Will there be more sisters backstabbing? Will Jessica go to jail? Will she lose everything?  Will Terrance ever forgive himself for not saving Derek? Will Terrance end up with Constance? Will Sylvia continue to be tortured by Calvin? Will Will take her revenge on Elise? Will he let Phillip off? Who will be hurt next? Who will be the ultimate ‘winner’?

Will they only ‘wake up’ once their mother is gone? Will the three sisters ever reconcile?
