Synopsis
When a cop expresses his grievance and anger onto the world, he becomes the most dangerous man on the force. Taken from the top ten famous unsolved cases in Hong Kong, Gun Metal Grey depicts a cop’s road to destruction as well as the very truth of human nature.
Fifteen years ago, upright police officer SHEK TUNG SING (Felix Wong) was falsely accused of murder and sentenced to prison. Now that he has been discharged, he decides to get to the bottom of the case. Unfortunately, he is unable to bring the culprit to justice because of lack of evidence.
As a result, his suppressed anger continues to churn within him and whenever the law fails to carry out justice, he takes matters into his own hand.
The sudden change in his character and behaviour places his friendship with his teammate MAI ON DING (Michael Miu) to the test. Later, when he is trying to prevent DING from looking further into the case, he even hurts DING’s girlfriend, HUI MAN HIM (Jessica Hsuan).
The competition begins to intensify between the two good friends when DING is determined to deal with SING according to the law.

I finally had the chance to sit down and watch the TVB 43rd Lighting Ceremony- marking TVB entering into the Anniversary celebration period 🙂 I was hoping they would reveal the nominations for this year but they haven’t yet. I enjoyed seeing Wayne and Sheren standing at the front row and get some of their well deserved spotlight (Yes! I have started watching No Regrets already and I LOVE IT! but I’ll save that for another post) They were the two I was focusing on through the show 🙂

There weren’t much in the Lighting Ceremony…I thought the performances and singing from The Voice 2 contestants were just average… I also thought it was kinda inappropriate to have Maglam (Winner of The Voice 2) stand on the front row with the other TVB Artists as well..how did she get her status all the way there…?
The interesting bits were the interviews with the cast from “Gun Metal Grey” (with Felix Wong, Michael Miu and Jessica Hsuan) and Rosy Business 2- No Regrets! They showed a few clips from the series- making me feel pretty excited 🙂 Jessica was in her ancient costume (I think for her new series with Myolie) but they didn’t have anything for it-which made me wonder if there was supposed to be something they cut out or if they just came straight from filming XD
The other weird thing was Wayne sang the themesong to Rosy Business (originally sung by Ron Ng). I wonder if this is one-off performance or if its the sub.I hope it’s a one off thing. Just feels kinda weird to have the exact song for the indirect-sequel ^^;
P.s: Themesong for Gun Metal Grey sounds so cool…!!

Synopsis
Guangzhou is in a state of political turmoil in the 1930s. Gangsters are on a rampage and opium trading becomes rampant. As they watch the illicit profits from opium trading escalate, the government forms the Anti-Smoking Bureau under the guise of suppressing opium, but the bureau is under the influence of CHENG LONG-KWAN (Yueh Hua), the gang’s kingpin. His eldest daughter CHENG KAU-MUI (Sheren Tang) who is an unscrupulous person soon returns from Shanghai to reap the rewards. MUI meticulously plans her every move.
On the other hand, LAU SING (Wayne Lai) is the leader of the Criminal Investigation Team. He has worked hard all his life to ensure an easy trail for his family, especially for his bed-ridden younger sister LAU CHING (Fala Chen). Despite his hot temper, he values friendship and brotherhood more than anything else. Once, he almost sacrificed his life to help his timid teammate, TONG KAT (Pierre Ngo).
It is fated that MUI and SING should meet each other and survive many calamities. It is also fated that both are fierce contenders who will never give in, although mutual understanding and affection slowly grows between them.
Meanwhile, the Japanese army invades China and Guangzhou falls into the hands of the Japanese. MUI enters the darkest time in her life when her aunt CHENG LONG-HEI (Susan Tse) frames her.
Will SING always be by her side?
TVB Anniversary series [Can’t Buy Me Love] recently finished airing in Hong Kong and there is already talks of a possible sequel! With such a similar cast and reuse of costumes and locations, one can easily mistaken [Can’t Buy Me Love] as a sequel to [Beyond the Realm of Conscience]. They are considered two separate dramas, though parodies and references are apparent (Gotta love the parody of “Windmill”)
Personally, I preferred the genre of [Beyond The Realm of Conscience] and I can’t get enough of it’s backstabbing and juicy bitch slapping. We just have to love Tavia’s breakthrough role as the evil Yiu Gam Ling, which left a much deeper impression than any of her roles in 2010. Even though many have risen eyebrows at Charmaine Sheh’s ‘Lau Sam Ho’ for being overly too perfect, I can’t help but only find the serious Chiu Yeung interesting to watch.  I found the story and direction of BTROC to be much stronger than CBML because many scenes were useless & exaggerated for laughs. Half the time I felt it was aimed at little children… but perhaps this is the way TVB comedies work?
Of course, this is only my opinion and I’d love to hear about yours! CBML must be doing something right if it garnered rather high ratings (peaked around 51 including online viewers)
If a sequel was to be filmed for CBML and BTROC, which one would you like to see most? Is a sequel even a good idea? Charmaine Sheh has expressed she prefers CBML because it was more enjoyable to film and it also brings happiness to the audience. However, it will be more challenging to make it funny since Chiu Yeung is already “good” and not spoilt like how she first appears. Interestingly, Fala Chen (who plays Ngan-Ping)Â expresses there’s no need to rush for a sequel, it’s better that TVB comes up with something fresh and interesting. I couldn’t agree more 🙂
Which drama did you enjoy more? Please cast your vote and share your thoughts 🙂
