Happy 6th Birthday K-TVB.net!!

Happy Birthday to you…
                                  Happy Birthday to you..
Happy 6th Birthday to K-TVB.net!!!!
                                 Happy Birthday to you…
WOOOOT!! It’s Party time!!! 😀

Today marks K-TVB.net’s 6th Birthday so I want to take this chance to officially wish K-TVB.net a very happy 6th birthday!!

Running online since 10 September 2006, K-TVB.net has managed to attract many blog readers and TVB fans from around the world. The blog went through some changes over the years, but we continue to offer TVB synopsis,  theme song downloads, screen captures, sharing thoughts and snippets on various TVB series!

As the blog owner of K for TVB, I am VERY proud to see it still up and running after 6 years. That’s a long time! I have also aged quite a bit since I started it- it’s kind of scary when I think about it! XD It takes a lot of time, effort and dedication to run a blog this size and to keep it alive. I admit the number of blog entries have dropped this year, aligned to the decreasing number of interesting TVB productions…There’s only so much I can do with that though! ..I wonder if TVB will ever pick back up? haha haha That, along with you guys, will be contributing factors on when we will retire from the online world…I am pleased to announce it’s not our time yet! 😀

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all my lovely readers/followers out there who have dropped by and/or stuck by with us over the years. As I always say, you guys keep the blog going! 😀 Special thanks as always to Chibi for her ongoing support for K-TVB.net and for the new 6th anniversary banner!!– featuring Tiger Cubs!! YAY!! I hope you guys all like it!

With TVB Anniversary month around the corner, lets keep the spirit up and let the celebrations begin!

 TVB Tiger Cubs

  • [poll id=”124″]
  • Tiger Cubs is one of my favourite series of 2012 and I’m super excited to hear they have received high ratings! I love this series for the cast, characters, action and cases. There is great chemistry between the characters and the cute romantic side plot adds a nice touch to it (while not being the main focus on the series).  Most of the cases are quite exciting and suspenseful to watch with a good mix of action- in the cases, and in the training scenes.
  • The series also started with a “bang”, with the King of Thieves Kenneth Ma and JJ Jia making their first appearance as Guest stars.
  • Tiger Cubs as a package was appealing. While the running time of the series is equivalent to 20 episodes; the series is divided into 13 episodes of 70mins each. Each episode is largely focussed on one case so it makes each episode quite distinctive.
  • I love the opening credits because it is different from the usual and has a movie feel to it.
  • If my memory is correct, the opening themevideo has a section which changes from episode to episode
  • Based on the nature of the episode, there are recaps at the start, which encompasses not the episode which was immediately before it, but scenes from any of the previous episodes which are relevant to the current episode.
  • The themesong sung by Joe Ma is also pretty catchy and suits the series pretty well.
  • TVB Tiger Cubs
  • I also like watching the characters bond together and grow. At first I thought the SDU team was quite divided, but I’m not sure whether this was because I wasn’t as familiar with the team members yet. Later on, conflicts and differences are resolved and the team members all stick for one another which is touching to see, especially in Episode 10 when ‘Ma Da’ was hospitalised or when the SDU wanted to seek revenge for Vincent in the finale.
  •  There are cases where I wished there were better guests stars but overall a good mix. Love Kenneth and JJ Jia appearing in the first and final case.
  • I’m greatly anticipating Tiger Cubs 2! I hope it goes ahead and is of equal or greater quality so we can see more of Jessica and Joe (who have both left TVB)
  • I really like Jessica’s Senior Inspector Chong Chuk-Wah character- she’s so cool XD I think her character was developed really well and her back story was well carried out and integrated throughout the series.
  • TVB Tiger Cubs
  • Jessica starts off to be a very serious person who indulges in her work. Her work is her life and she chooses to cut herself from any social life or the people around her. Jessica’s fiancée died 2 years ago during a bombing incident which occurred at a jewellery shop. Because Jessica was occupied at that time, she did not turn up and avoided the mishap. We learn from Oscar (who plays her younger brother) that Jessica became traumatised and went into depression. Later she appeared to have recovered by focusing heavily on her work. However, in reality this was only her attempt to cover up the pain, hurt and the guilt inside of not being there with her fiancé. She blamed herself for his death. She constantly “saw” her fiancé , asking her to come down to keep him company, and that he is waiting for her. Must be torture! There were many instances where Jessica seemed to put her life out at risk to arrest the criminals. Joe witnessed many of these instances and started to worry about her.  There was another time where Jessica seemed to go into a trance, where instead of convincing the woman from jumping off the building, Jessica joined the woman and was convincing her to jump down with her to end the misery. Joe later realises that she was only trying to finding excuses to end her own life to escape the torture she was suffering. Joe helps Jessica through this which brings the two closer.
  • They used this part of the story and incorporated into Natalie’s shooting case where Natalie, who is a psychiatrist, manipulates Jessica and takes control of her of mind to take revenge.
  •  Jessica finally lets go from seeking death with the help of Joe, and for her brother 🙂 It seemed like she could finally open up and live happily again.
  • TVB Tiger Cubs
  • In episode 12, when Jessica realises the death of her fiancé was not caused by an accident, but a deliberate bombing scheme, she realised she couldn’t put the past behind her until she arrested the people behind it. Amazing performance from Jessica- her acting was really convincing as she went crazy trying to find out the truth. It was an intense episode and I was totally absorbed into the series as I felt all her anxiety and desperation. She crossed the line of what a cop was able to do and it just comes to show how much her fiancé’s death has impacted her.
  • Joe Ma’s Chin Hon-To (Head of SDU’s alpha team) was very cool too. SDU’s are the elites of the elites and he leads his teams well and invests a lot of time training them. While he appears strict to newcomers Him Law and Vincent Wong, he cares for them and means well.
  • TVB Tiger Cubs
  •  I think Joe is very convincing in his role- not sure whether it was impacted by his previous experience as a cop in real life.  I think Joe is really good playing those leader type of roles.
  • I felt so bad for Joe in episode 10 when he asked ‘Ma Da’ to stay an extra month, and the accident occurred and it is only human nature to blame himself for the misfortune. I was so relieved and happy that ‘Ma Da’ woke up in the end, and was able to continue to work with SDU in the support team.
  • While Joe is a pro at his work, he is quite shy and clueless when it comes to his love relationship.
  •  His girlfriend (Christine Kuo) leaves him for Oscar (his best friend) just as he proposes to her when she realises he is no longer the one she loves. What can I say? I much like Joe and Jessica as a pairing anyway. These two are so much more compatible (and I guess also because Christine comes off as quite superficial) I love watching Joe and Jessica’s scenes, so cute to see them so stiff. The “chase” scenes were so cute with Joe constantly  stumbling and both of them would appear so shy hehe xD  They always seem get interrupted when Joe wants to ask her to be his girlfriend.

  • I’m pretty confused at the moment. As I was digging through my blog, I found a chunk of “draft” posts I’ve written up from various series which I thought I’d finished and posted up before, but when I search for the posts, apparently they’re not there*scratches head* Weird. I even have my screencapture folders on my desktop which says “Used”, but I can’t seem to find them anywhere. Feels like Déjà vu right now..but since they’re not up (unless you can prove me otherwise)..I’ll try finish them off and post them up now and then)-Just a heads up in case you’re wondering why I’m posting about older dramas….

  • TVB Relic of Emissary
  • For those who have been following me on facebook would know I started watching the series later; but it was so captivating I caught up quickly, watching the first 15 episodes in one weekend! The storyline was intriguing, the characters were nicely written. I realised that if I like the main characters and relationships, it goes a long way of keeping me alert. I was so obsessed with the series it became such an addiction chasing each episode. All things come to an end though but looking back, I really enjoyed watching it and is a series I recommend people giving a go.
  • Relic of an Emissary was  my favourite TVB drama for 2011!
  • To read the synopsis, view here.
  • The story surprisingly had quite a few twists here and there
  • I love the time period of the series and  absolutely love the themesong sung by Joe Ma.
  • I constantly found myself unable to decide which male character I liked best:  Michael, Joe or Sammul.
  • Michael’s character is very mysterious- as we journey with him he slowly tries to regain all his memories. My mind was constantly pondering whether Joe is really a good guy or is there some other secret. Did he kill the people in Michael’s village or not? However, at the same time, Joe didn’t seem concerned about Michael finding out the truth.
  • TVB Relic of Emissary
  •
  • The biggest twist in the story finding out that was Michael was actually working for Joe (before his memory loss)! Brilliant!! There were hints here and there describing Joe and Michael’s relationship and I was so confused when Joe showed the tiger “print” which Michael has printed on his arm.
  • I think they tried really hard with Michael’s “Ngo Siu-Fung/Chin-Wo Dai Yan “character by putting in a lot of qualities into his character.  I think it was also because this series was promoted as the ancient “EU” drama, so his character stood out after his successful “Laughing-Gor” character.
  •  He was an imperial guard- one of the most elite fighters of the country who were independent from the emperor.
  •  He started off being cold-blooded, ruthless and quite arrogant. After his memory loss in episode 2, Michael turned into a very caring person with a warm heart, while still maintaining a cool stance. His caring and flirtatious personality  leads to almost every girl he meets falls for him. He is also very loyal to Joel (the king) and protects him from Joe (Prince “Ying”) , who ironically is his  â€œmaster”.
  • There was a love triangle between Michael’s between Elanne (Princess) and Sire (Maid).  I previously made a post dedicated to Elanne Kong & Michael Tse (so I won’t repeat here)
  • TVB Relic of Emissary
  •  I didn’t really like Sire’s character, especially towards the end. I had a feeling TVB was going to get rid of her and it didn’t leave me with much sympathy .
  • When Michael got drunk, he mistaken her for the Princess and he slept with her. She was clearly conscious on what was going on…but I thought she got aids..why would she still sleep with him??
  • I love the chemistry between the characters (especially the male characters) Sammul and Michael are both really good fighters, and quite intellectual and they have a lot of  good scenes together. They grew from rivals to friends, to realising they are both working for Prince Yin (Joe) [love how they’re on the same side and working together!- it’s so cool how Joe managed to raise 2 such talented men], then Michael betraying Joe, leading the two to become enemies again.
  • TVB Relic of Emissary
  • Absolutely  adore Sammul’s character-he is so sweet!! A  post I dedicated to him: Sammul Chan as Ma Sam Bo<3
  • Joe’s character as Prince Yin was very charming. He was intelligent, very manly, a great fighter, and I think, most importantly, a great leader. While the story is shown on Michael’s perspective, ‘Relic of Emissary’s storyline is pretty much watching how Joe he overthrows Joel becomes the new emperor in the end.
  • One of the highlights of the drama is Kate Tsui’s character and the relationship she develops with both Joe and Michael’s characters. Adding to that, there’s a twist to her character too. Read up on a post dedicated to her J Kate Tsui as Chin-Sam Leung/Chor Chor

Divas in Distress

Synopsis

Striving for temporary superiority over one another, retired TV actresses SHEUNG YING-HUNG (Liza Wang) and MIU SING-HO (Gigi Wong) have had ruptures in their relationship as fellow students for thirty years. They basically would not have contacted each other should their master – FUNG HANG-MAN (Chung King Fai) not got in between them from time to time. Ironically SING-HO’s son – CHONG KA-LONG (Chin Ka Lok) married YING-HUNG’s daughter, who risked her life to have a baby then died giving birth, leaving YING-HUNG grief-stricken. Fate has it that KA-LONG encounters HEUNG NAI-HING (Eliza Sam), who is a TV reporter from a wealthy family. While SING-HO advocates KA-LONG to remarry, YING-HUNG deliberately sabotages it. On the other hand, YING-HUNG devotes all her attention to cultivate her son, CHAK YAU-SING (Him Law). To her surprise, he falls in love with SING-HO’s niece KWAI YEE-HEI (Mandy Wong), a construction worker. Not wanting her son to follow in her daughter’s footsteps, YING-HUNG is resolved to create difficulties for them. Ongoing hatred towards each other is fuelling the conflicts between YING-HUNG and SING-HO, enmeshing their children in an awkward predicament. How they wish their mothers would not continue like that!

Wish and Switch

Warning: Contains spoilers

  • A mediocre series which brought some form of entertainment while it lasted XD Honestly I wouldn’t recommend this series but since I’ve watched it, I thought I’d share some of my thoughts on it XD
  • The story revolves around two friends Myolie and Selena who are quite different in terms of personality and live quite different lives from each other.  A “cursed” online trade site leads them to exchange identities and we watch their friendship and lives go in all sorts of directions.
  • Watching Myolie’s messed up family annoyed me haha- I’d say my personality resemble Selena’s more than Myolie’s because I don’t have that kind of patience and tolerance level to deal with what was going on in the house. When Selena switched lives with Myolie I felt I could relate to her a lot more.  I also felt sorry for Selena because Myolie was essentially ruining Selena’s image XD (I’m also slightly bias since I like Selena more than Myolie) while Myolie was enjoying her rich identity
  • The scene were Rocky died was sad- but I would have thought Vincent would have notice something was wrong with his “wife” (Myolie) since she didn’t seem to have much reaction.
  • Selena also blamed Myolie for Rocky’s death and ended up sleeping with Johnson (Myolie’s real husband) because she was upset and drunk
  • On the other hand, Myolie found out Selena’s secret about Selena and Vincent’s false marriage and she ended up typing it up to blow the cover, causing the two to hate each other. Selena also refused to exchange her identity back with Myolie, as revenge and also because she misunderstood Vincent (her real husband) thinking he never loved her. She lost everything, so she wanted to stay with Johnson (who treated her right)
  • Thinking that the computer (used to switch back identities) had been demolished in the garbage dump, Myolie starts going wild in hope to seduce her (real) husband (Johnson) back to break up Johnson and Selena.
  • To be honest that was so  weird to watch. It was kind of gross but Johnson did eventually fall for Myolie’s…weird act. She wasn’t even her genuine self and nothing like his wife’s usual behaviour…
  • Later on, Selena realises her real husband Vincent loved her but it was too late to go back because Selena was pregnant with Johnson’s child- leaving the two girls helpless.
  • Thinking they were unable to exchange back identities, the two became friends again and tried to “accept fate” with their new identity and partners. Myolie distanced herself from Johnson, claiming she would never be with him because he was poor.
  • I liked watching the scenes when Vincent started noticing Selena (as Myolie’s identity), because he was able to fall in love with her for who she was, and not be affected by the misunderstanding that Selena was with him just for his money. The scene where the couples dressed up as fairy tale characters was sweet!
  • Who would have knew Johnson’s love for the seductive Myolie would drive him evil. When he accidentally found out about the trade website, he wished to became rich, climbing up the social ladder/ranks in hope to win Myolie’s love
  • Myolie and Selena finally switch back lives, however Johnson’s heart is already elsewhere  (chasing after Selena rather than his wife next to him) Johnson turned corrupted and evil.
  • Bad things always end up coming out of the wishes, in which the price he had to pay at the end was his own health.
  • At the end, in order to save her husband and turn him back to who he was, Myolie exchanged her own life to resolve all the problems.
  • In the end, Selena and Vincent end up happily together again while Johnson meets a girl looking exactly like Myolie… XD
  • I thought the 2 hour finale dragged on. It felt like everything that Myolie did was pointless. No one appreciated what she was doing for them. Only after she “died” did people change. It didn’t touch me though. *shrugs*
  • I thought Vincent coming back and proposing to Selena was very forced and random too. I liked how they naturally re-started their relationship though
  • All in all, this is not a series I would re-watch…gets pretty random and all over the place…your thoughts?

TVB Three Kingdoms RPG

[poll id=”123″]

Has anyone been watching “Three Kingdoms RPG 回到三國“? The finale was out last night and just wanted to see what your opinions were on the series. Three Kingdoms RPG was one of the series I had anticipated for 2012, mostly because Raymond Lam was in it as well as other casts which I quite enjoy watching (Tavia & Kenneth). The cast sounds great. The time period sounds interesting, although I never really knew the story/history. It looked like it could be quite enjoyable

I’ve only been watching snippets of it during dinner time while it aired so I have some form of opinion of it although it may no reflect the entire series. I love the theme song by Raymond Lam!! The theme video also makes the series seem quite serious. However, from what I’ve seen so far, nothing really appeals to me…most of the scenes I’ve seen which discusses about war didn’t engage me.  I  did not like Raymond Lam’s look, especially with the beard. I can’t get used to it ..isn’t 諸葛亮 supposed to be 30 in the series? His character comes off as quite old-looking (despite characters praising his intelligence at a young age). He also comes off as a bit “slow” rather than witty because of the way he talks and reacts..

In the series, Kenneth Ma plays a 30 year old while Tavia is a 23 year old maid..I’m just starting to think they can’t pull off the age well enough and I haven’t seen much chemistry between the two. Kenneth’s character was also quite annoying to watch (especially in the earlier episodes) although he is supposed to be the source of entertainment and our protagonist from the present time as we journey with him in the Three Kingdoms. Unless I’m convinced otherwise, I might skip this series in hope to save some precious time watching some better TVB productions (if there are any!). I might watch the finale to see if anything exciting happens. Any thoughts?

Tiger Cubs

I HEART this series and the themesong 😀 (Watch the clip below to listen to the full version!) It’s so catchy and suits it series so well =) Joe Ma’s voice fits the song perfectly! *Can’t wait to watch the finale!! More Tiger Cubs posts coming soon- so stay tuned! 😀 *
