Triumph in the Skies II

  • Finally started on Grand Production “Triumph in the Skies II” 😀 I haven’t seen the prequel before, but Chilam’s casting in this series was enough to get me excited to watch the series! I’ve just seen the first 5 episodes so here are some of my impressions on the characters so far:

Triumph in the Skies II

  • Francis Ng as Samuel Tong: I was not a fan of his hair or his look in the first few episodes. The way he was dressed made me feel kind of sorry for him. It was like he was torturing himself. Following the death of his wife Zoe (played by Myolie Wu from the prequel), Francis has taken an extended holiday in London, living with Michelle Yim and helping her bake cakes at her cafe. He looked pretty sad and depressed and I felt it was his way of grieving over her death. TVB killing off the main lead’s wife from the prequel reminded me of what they did to Kate Tsui in “A Great Way to Care 2 “. As expected, something happens which makes Francis find himself again, courageously facing the death of his wife, and he decides to end his holiday. This happened due to his encounters with Michelle’s daughter Holiday (played by Fala Chen) who unexpectedly returned to London and by mistake (or Fate), made Francis re-bake the same cake for his wife. In episode 4, Francis returns to Hong Kong to be a pilot again. I wonder how he will react when he bumps into Myolie (Zoe-look-alike).

Triumph in the Skies II

  • Chilam Cheung as Jayden Koo:

Triumph in the Skies II

  • As a complete contrast to Francis, Chilam plays the really cool, charming pilot with a flirtatious personality. He is constantly found dating and making girls fall for him lol Being popular amongst the ladies and being highly regarded/skilled in his profession, Chilam he has a bit of an ego and loves attention seeking. He also enjoys taking risks which again contrasts to the reserved and conservative Francis. I personally love Chilam’s character so far- he is interesting to watch and definitely an eye candy *squeal!!* XD Can’t wait too see his love story unfold!
  • During the first episode, Chilam acted like a jerk. I didn’t like him at all and he was described by the fellow members as a Devil “Cool Mor”. At the end of the episode, it turned out they were just playing a prank on newcomer Kenneth *phew* He would have been unlikeable!
  • I loved the two scenes he had with Fala so far! So cute! The first one was when Chilam thought Fala was waving and running up to him to give him a hug so he held his arms out to embrace her hahah..hilarious. Chilam’s face expression was priceless as he saw her ran past to hug her friend. Chilam: “Next time I see you, I’m going to make sure you hug me”.

SAMUEL TONG (Francis Ng) stays in the UK to spend a long vacation following his wife’s death. After encountering HOLIDAY HO (Fala Chen), a wanderer who just got dumped, he ends his vacation early and returns to Hong Kong, joining Skylette Airline as a pilot to fly again.

He meets Captain JAYDEN KOO (Julian Cheung), and the two exhibit two distinct personalities, with SAMUEL being reserved and JAYDEN being a man who likes to attract attention.  Respectively, the two get emotionally entangled with HOLIDAY, who arrives in Hong Kong to apply for pilot training.  Moreover, SAMUEL becomes a training captain to assess JAYDEN, leading to a competition between the two for both career and love.

JAYDEN’s younger sister SUMMER HA (Myolie Wu) is an aircraft maintenance technician, and she bears grudges against her brother due to an unhappy experience during her childhood.  ISSAC TONG (Ron Ng), due to SUMMER physically resembling his sister-in-law ZOE so much, cannot turn a blind eye on it, so at last, he helps settle the dispute between SUMMER and her brother.  SUMMER has a crush on ISSAC, yet ISSAC restrains himself from taking another step forward in order to avoid evoking SAMUEL’s grief.

First Officer ROY KO (Kenneth Ma) has two girlfriends and cannot make up his mind as he does not bear to hurt anyone.  After sharing his secret with HEATHER FONG (Elena Kong), a senior purser, ROY and she become close associates, and the two even have a one night stand.   JIM JIM (Him Law), who used to represent Hong Kong in swimming, plans to retire and enroll in flight training, where he falls in love with COCO LING (Nancy Wu), who is to be a surrogate mother for her friend.   With the planes taking-off and landing, stories of sorrow, parting, joyfulness and re-encounters have been constituted.

Synopsis

Two parties are meant to fall in love but not be together, leading one to die and one to regret. Surprisingly, after three hundred years, such a legend recurs in the hometown of Liang Zhu – the Butterfly Lovers.

Losing his parents at a young age, CHOR YAT-CHIN (Raymond Wong) was rescued by his lifesaver, so he vows to grow up to be a constable, upholding justice and punishing evil. On his first day to report for duty, he solves a major case, which makes the chief constable CHING YING-HUNG (Mat Yeung) so jealous that he deliberately dispatches YAT-CHIN to catch a murder suspect WAN TIN-BONG (Evergreen Mak). As such, different characters are drawn into a complicated and confusing predestined relationship.

While tracking down TIN-BONG, YAT-CHIN comes across a thief, FOON HEI (Priscilla Wong). Being in opposition to each other as constable and thief, the two are utterly incompatible, but FOON HEI has saved YAT-CHIN over and over again. In light of YAT-CHIN’s constant dreams of Liang Zhu, FOON HEI, together with her sisters FOON SIU (Cilla Kung) and FOON CHING (Kaki Leung), shape herself as an incarnation of Zhu Yingtai, in hopes that YAT-CHIN will believe their love is predestined. Out of the blue, with a sudden appearance of a wealthy businesswoman WU DIP (Yoyo Chen), YAT-CHIN is unable to extricate himself from the unrequited love. Later on he even becomes love sick as if he were Liang Shanbo, collapsing after a setback. Meanwhile, his lifesaver of a young age shows up in front of him again…..

A Change of Heart

I finished watching this very enjoyable series!! 😀 The ending- while was not unpredictable, was actually quite satisfying to watch 🙂 They tied loose ends and had its good dosage of action and suspense. The scene when Joey reappeared freaked me out!! It was quite creepy when Niki saw “herself” in the mirror!!

I felt sorry for Joey Meng’s character (like I have been throughout the series). In the finale, she went through surgery to look exactly like Niki because she was jealous of her and thought Michael liked her. I pity her because everything she did was “for her husband”. I loved the Michael and Joey (as Niki) confession scene the most when she finally realises that she is the one he loved all along, and not Niki. Although everything she did was unforgivable, I still wished inside that she could have had a second chance (well….she kind of did, but you know what I mean). She however, turns good just as she dies saving Michael.

I’m glad the remaining characters get a good ending! Vincent wakes up from his coma and has a happy ending with Elaine! Mandy ends up marrying a decent man and Niki and Bosco also end up together 🙂 Meanwhile, Michael continues to do good deeds, and while volunteering in the country sides, meets another woman looking exactly like his wife. It is a bit of a cliche cliff hanger ending, but I think it suits this series quite well with a bit of fantasy element in it. Did you guys like the ending? If there could be an alternate ending, what would it be? I read online that Michael’s character was initially going to die in the finale as well, but Michael didn’t want his character to have the same fate as in “Highs and Lows”, so requested the ending and storyline to be changed. He wanted to have a chance to film a sequel to “A Change of Heart” if there were to be one. I would totally love to see a sequel, but TVB haven’t been really good with sequels these days (maybe Triumphant in the Skies II could prove otherwise?)

And on a final note, I was waiting to see this scene from the opening themevideo but it didn’t happen! I thought he was going to turn bad again or something… this scene does look quite interesting.

A Change of Heart

Due to popular requests, I have decided to post up the chinese lyrics and pinyin to sub themesong of A Change of Heart: 最後祝福 (Final Blessing) sung by Bosco Wong 🙂 I love the chorus of this song- it’s so catchy, especially when it is played at the end of each episode! I actually don’t like the beginning of the song much- I find it slightly dull ^^;

The song sounds like it’s Bosco #1’s final blessing for Niki Chow as she finds her new love in her life when he leaves her. The song doesn’t relate to the character completely though because it implies he wasn’t good enough for her and is now happy for her that she has finally found someone who is. *UPDATE 18/7/13* ADDED IN ENGLISH TRANSLATIONS! ENJOY

English Translations

by KTVB 🙂

Note: My english translation is a bit literal. I had some trouble translating some Chinese phrases to English although I know what they mean ^^; Hopefully they will make sense to you too!

This day I hear you say you’re well, have fulfillment, and will soon be establishing a family with him
Let him take care of the abrupt you, this moment I have no need to worry about you anymore

I remember you love winter the most, he also loves winter. Go through the warmest winter with him
The two of you are so passionate, happiness seems so much like a fairytale

When he picks up a new page, give you new change
No regrets left behind, hope future is smooth-sailing/straight
Finally your pessimism, is affected by laughter
This is also the most beautiful development

*I’m this dislikable, he is perfect, can get along with you well
Wont’ be like us, treat arguments as games, we cannot fight back(?) for rest of our life

For you, who I miss the most- tragedy has stopped, no need to get hurt another time
You and I are not fortunate enough to be able to say “I do”, but this person can with you

Want you to hear the well wishes, remember back in those years
We didn’t have the will power, slowly walk, slowly distant
Please carefully remember this day, more hope in moving forward
Don’t be scare of the light rain

Repeat *
Let me steal and say this one time

Lyrics with Pinyin: 最後祝福

Woohooo–thanks to Chibi, we have a fresh new banner, featuring my latest craze: A Change of Heart!! Hope you guys like the banner as much as I do! 🙂
A Change of Heart TVB

Niki Chow’s “A Change of Heart”, the theme song to TVB’s [A Change of Heart] has been playing in my head over and over…I’m currently loving this song and the series! I think the song sounds catchy. There’s something about the melody of it- it sounds sad and slightly haunting like someone who is experiencing depression and is breaking down. Here is my attempt at the English Translation. I’m currently up to episode 15 of the series and I have a feeling this song will relate to Joey Meng’s character the most. As Michael Miu’s character changes after his heart transplant, their relationship is starting to grow distant. Will need to watch on to find out I guess!

Feel free to share your thoughts or your interpretations. You can also find the full lyrics, pinyin and download link down below. Enjoy!
TVB A Change of Heart Themesong Lyrics

English translation of ‘A Change of Heart’

You say you are busy; on the 400th night you’re still busy
I see you are too happily busy, forgotten to try to lie
I see this door; behind the door changes too un-peacefully
Every breath, no hope

*Atmosphere changed, taste have changed, the past warmth have gradually turned cold
We used to be mutually romantic, this night has turned into vain hope

Heart- at the start naturally kind-hearted, turn around and its turned sinister
Like how you used to be able to wait for my love, later, slowly slowly decline/give up
Can always be optimistic at the start, but end up turning depressed
Who has the ability to be together, make little bits of happiness

When courage has changed into weakness, even when talking you’d worry you use the wrong words
When oxygen also turns weak, even the power to kiss is gone
I see this wall, wall looks like it has our shadows
Not taking any notice of each other, being neglected by you

Repeat *
Heart- at the start naturally kind-hearted, turn around and its turned sinister
Like how you used to be able to wait for my love, later, slowly slowly decline/give up
Can always be optimistic at the start, but end up turning depressed
Who has ability to be together again, make little bits of feelings
Feelings, love til death

Heart- at the start would be strong, turn around and it’ll only know howto bound
Like the happiness at the beginning of love, later slowly slowly close
From the start didn’t want it to change, but it changed unconsciously
Who has the fate to be together again, to make a bit more feelings
Feelings, will lose feelings quickly

I’m currently up to date with this series on episode 15! I really like it so far and it is mainly due to a good storyline and very interesting characters and interactions. Hopefully the rest of the series won’t disappoint! 🙂
