On my way into episode 12..so its over half way through the story now. Felt the need to make a post! ^^ I thought I’d dedicate this post to Kevin and Gigi; both of whom have really pretty faces lol. Kevin’s character here is so much more likeable than his character in Devil’s Disciples, he looks better here too =)
The story is quite ordinary though; so far it doesn’t really have the enlightening effect on me. Or maybe I’m not that into calligraphy or artworks I feel that not much happens in this series. I will watch on though and see how things goes with Kevin and Gigi =)
Since there are heaps of scenes with these two, I thought I’d just pick out 2 scenes which I particularly liked.
I really think its the Kenny-boy who brought the two a lot closer, since the two both really like him and they spent a lot of time with him taking him all over the place to play. I really like the boy because he’s really cute ^^ He seems to know Gigi likes Kevin and wants to help the two be together. Only thing odd is that I wouldn’t expect a boy at such young age to have an interest in Chinese Calligraphy but that’s another story.

A couple mistook them as a family and offered to help them take a family photo together.

Just this moment when Kevin looked over to Gigi; I felt it seemed like he saw a different spiritual figure there (if that makes any sense)
[Scene 1] Holding hands: Episode 7
Little Kenny, tells them that he needs to go to the toilet. Kevin offers to take him there but he insists on going himself; except the fact that Gigi’s father told him to hold onto her hands or either she’ll get lost (how cute ^^) Kenny quickly give Gigi’s hand to Kevin, asking Kevin to hold her hands for him while he goes, and runs off lol I found this so cuuuute..

What’s more cuter is the fact they actually stand there holding hands and you can see their shy faces and Kevin tries to think of things to talk about to ease out the situation lol

Little Kenny comes back, seeing the two are still holding hands; and comments how Kevin listens to him XD

On their way home in the car, Litle Kenny notices Gigi. He asks Kevin to turn on the air conditioner. Gigi tells him that he’ll get cold, but Kenny replies that her face has gone red! XD

It should be obvious to Kevin that Gigi was blushing ..makes me wonder sometimes..does Kevin know Gigi ‘likes’ him?

Don’t they look like one happy family? ^^

[Scene 2] The Head knocking: Episode 10
After their team winning, the 3 take a photo. Just the moment when their heads are close together, Kenny moves back and Gigi and Kevin’s knock into each other

Sorta sad to see Kenny leave them. He brought some trouble to the family, but he also brought along lots of happiness for them all…
Seems to be reused over and over again, yet I still find it quite cute~
Usually, when two characters have met each other when they were younger (usually for only one short encounter), they appear to end up with each other in the future~ they usually don’t remember but realise only after they have meet each other years later. This has happened in The Pillowcase of mystery with Kenix and Bobby’s characters when they have met when they were young. This one was really cute because Bobby’s left arm was injured when he was small when saving Kenix ^^ about brought the whole story together..
More recently…
[Devil’s Disciples] Bosco and Shirley
Episode 17
Bosco’s character saved Shirley and protected her from getting injured when she was almost run by some wheelburrow-like-thing. Shirley recalls this later in the series and eventually tells Bosco. And what do you know? The two end up being together..

[Best Bet] Michael and Linda
Episode 14
Only after the two got married and when Linda was about to leave him, she realises they have met when they were small. Michael used the same technique to cheer her up when he was small…and it was because of this, Linda gave Michael another chance. Linda has kept the string thing since she was a little girl, so I think its obvious she really liked the boy back then, perhaps someone she would like. When she relaises, she asks him.. ‘Why are you that boy? How come..?’

*contains spoilers*

Other than a few parts in the last episode, and the last few episodes leading towards the end, the series was enjoyable to watch overall. The graphics were pretty bad as expected, but the fighting scenes were quite decent I think. I was rooting for the The Blood Shadow Clan the whole time because of Sharon~ and because I didn’t like the so-called “good” side. As I’ve predicted after the first episode, Bernice’s father (the Wulin leader) was not as ‘heroic’ as he tried to perceive.
The Story
I felt the storyline was rather short (perhaps like the length of The Price of Greed?) It seemed a bit narrow focused, but then again, aren’t most series like that?
In short: Bosco and Kevin join the School of Sacred Swords. The Blood Shadow Clan rises, but after their one and only attack, that’s it. Sharon finds out that Bosco is her brother, and Bernice’s father uses Bosco to defeat Sharon because Bosco was so loyal to him. Bosco sees Bernice’s father’s true face and escape in hope to save his severely injured sister. At the end, Kevin and Bosco fight Bernice’s father and defeats him.
Favourite character: Sharon’s Mok Mun
I pretty much liked her from the start. I also like all her costumes, think they all looks great on her! She’s was also the most powerful character/villain in the series, and if it wasn’t for Bosco, she could have kill Bernice’s father way earlier. She also has more of a personality and despite being evil, she grew to have a soft heart and slowly changed. She treasures family and remember those who have saved her (e.g Kevin’s mother). Even though she threatened Bosco, I believed she wouldn’t hurt those people important to him. Unfortunately, Sharon dies in the series..

I thought Kevin’s character was rather ordinary and didn’t have much screen time. I felt that Kevin’s character didn’t really trust people and that Bosco treated Kevin like a closer friend than the other way around (only until later in the series after episode 17) I ended up liking Kevin’s character more when he was on screen with Sharon because I thought they were quite cute together. Also gives Sharon a romantic plot and we get to see Kevin a bit more emotional. I actually would have liked to see their wedding..such a shame that Sharon couldn’t live..I also would have liked to hear Sharon’s last words..but that didn’t happen.Sharon’s character is pretty much the only one with a personality, while the others were quite ordinary. Her character is also probably the only one who changes and develops from the beginning till the end~ I have to say I liked Sharons’s portrayal in this series =) She did a great job!
Favourite on screen couples:
- Bosco and Sharon

I really liked their brother/sister relationship (hence the banner). I always wanted to watch them reunite and how Bosco ends up accepting and loving his twin sister after being separated for 20 years. I was also looking forward to the time they would be able to fight on the same side. I thought these two as siblings share a greater chemistry than Bosco with the other leads. And Sharon does look older than him.
- Bosco and Wayne
‘Si Fu is always right’

I liked how Wayne was always looking out for Bosco, how he taught him Martial Arts and played around with him. There were times they argued and I felt sorry for Wayne because Bosco didn’t believe him (i.e about Bernice’s father). Even though Wayne argued with Bosco a lot, you can tell they really cared for each other; and I liked the part where Wayne saves him from Sharon’s servant’s attack and how Bosco went to find Sharon to find the cure. At the end, Wayne dies for Bosco..
Annoying moments?
How Bosco looks up to Bernice’s father so much..much like how Bosco’s character looked up to Michael Miu’s character in Dicey Business. I hated it how he wouldn’t listen to Wayne or Kevin’s warning (not even being cautious around him?) and constantly defending him and ultimately chose to believe him over his own twin sister. Bosco also claims The School of Sacred Swords did so much for him and he owes them as if they saved him before or something, when they really didn’t do much for him..its great that he’s a loyal disciple..but have they really given him anything? They hardly taught him any martial arts..
- Bernice Bosco and Shirley
I think Bernice looks older and bigger than Bosco in the series which made think the two didn’t look that good together. Shirley looks way young so she looks cute with Bosco, but I wanted Bernice to end up with him mainly because its those two that have been focussed on throughout the series. It seems like Shirley’s character is trying to get Bosco’s sympathy, that she sacrificed herself for him. She knows Bosco loves Bernice, so I can’t help but think she was being selfish and only using the excuse of wanting to save Sharon to justify her actions. Shirley wanted Bosco..and its just happens that there’s the great opportunity. How does she know Bosco would be happy being with her? She can’t just force him if you get what I mean. That’s just slack to Bernice..and she/Bosco can’t really blame Shirley =x I didn’t like the final pairing..I just feel that the female lead should end up with the male lead.
There wasn’t much of an emphasis about Bernice not being about to be with Bosco because of their identity.. it didn’t seem to be a real problem for them.

Devil’s Disciples or Face to Fate? .Both Wuxia Warehoused Series.
I would have to say I enjoyed Face to Fate a lot more (from memory). I loved the romantic plot namely, but I guess the romance in Devil’s Disciples wasn’t really the focus..or was it? I didn’t feel it was anyway because the characters liked each other, but I didn’t feel they absolutely loved each other. There was high chemistry between Raymond and Selena/Nancy and Derek~ they were willing to do anything for the other… I think they wanted to point this out in the characters in Devil’s Disciples too but I guess their acting just didn’t express it well enough. It wasn’t convincing.
Bernice and Bosco liked each other because they got along well from the start. There were a short little sequence clip of the two going out for a day. After Bosco finds out about his past, the two seem to have gone distant and there appears to be a lack of trust for each other.
Their wedding day is delayed, and after all the battles, Bernice finds out that Bosco has married Shirley. There wasn’t any conflict that arose about them being about to be together because they were enemies even though Bosco had the thought in his mind. Bosco ends up killing her father, and several years later, the two going out once in a while…? Shirley has a crush on Bosco but Bosco only loved Bernice. After Shirley sacrificed herself by sleeping with him to save his sister Sharon, Bosco feels that he owes her, so learns to like her and ends up marrying her. And now it appears at the end that Bosco is cheating on her by going out with Bernice +_+? He’ll probably end up marrying both of them..
Questions…
- What happened to the Blood Shadow Clan in the end?
- Where did Sharon learn her powerful techniques from?
- Where did Bosco, Kevin and the other disciples learn their martial arts from before entering Scared Sword School?
- How come Michael and Anne put the pressure points in Bosco (so that he won’t be able to learn more powerful techniques) and not on Sharon?
- How did Bosco and Kevin learn so many techniques in two days?
- Did Bosco give Wayne a proper new buryl? It looks like a different location
- How did Kevin get Sharon’s ashes after burying her?
- Why did Kevin and Bosco leave the martial art techniques/methods lying all over the ground after defeating Bernice’s father?
- I’m sure here’s more..but can’t think of any more for the moment..
A little offtrack or misleading?
The chinese title of this series “Kerng Gim” literally translates to Strong Sword (I believe), but there wasn’t much emphasis on the sword at all. There are also shots of it at the beginning of the theme video, which I think is also the one Bosco was given by Bernice’s father. Perhaps its supposed to be symbolic for something? If its the right sword I’m thinking of, its the one Sharon said that the evolution of the sword was linked to the killing of the Blood Shadow Clan.
The English title “Devil’s Disciples” I believe is referring to Kevin and Bosco, with the devil being Bernice’s father.
The promotional image also tend to indicate the main characters of the series. Judging from the poster, Kevin seems equally main (if not more than) with Bosco, but in fact, Kevin only appears to be a side-character with a lot less screen time compared to Bosco. Bosco is the main character in the series much because of the focus on his life. The other misleading thing is the pairing of the characters.Usually in a series, the main lead ends up the with female lead. With Shirley’s character significantly further back and smaller , who would have thought Bosco would of end up being paired with her? I would have thought she would have merely been a supporting character, a friend to the main casts..
Furthermore, in the themevideo, we see shots of Bernice fighting with Sharon and when they both fell back, Bosco catches Bernice and Kevin catches Sharon, and we see this rivalry between Bosco and Kevin. Would have been interesting to see the two girls fight each other (both being the daughters of rival groups, i.e School of Sacred Swords v Blood Shadow Clan), but they don’t really have anything against the other in the series. Bosco and Kevin are also friends throughout the whole series.
A little inconsistent?
The guys’ hairstyles..why are some short (i.e Kevin, Bosco) while some others have long hair (Bernice’s father, Sword brother, other disciples of Sacred Sword)?
Final Words?
It’s not a “must watch” series but I think its still pretty decent series if you have time on your hands. Bosco and Kevin’s acting here is pretty normal though~ And for the ending, if you like to see lightlighted stuff with humour, you’ll like the ending. It felt very out-of-place when I watched it though. Just don’t take the last episode seriously ~
I’ve have been looking at some Devils Disciples clips after finishing it~ yup, I don’t really search up trailers, news about series before watching it so I won’t have the story spoilt, not even the official synopsis ^^ The official MV looks great! Looks better than the actual series with all the fighting scenes put together~

The graphics in this clip is a bit dodgey but it was interesting to see how the bit with Bernice and Sharon (were fight on the opening sequence) fits in. It does look its based off some Chinese PC game and trying to give that kind of effect. Makes me wonder if its really based off a Chinese game because I can’t seem to find out much about it. I would love to see some comparisons with the characters and actors. This promotional clip must of been made a while ago since the title of the series is a bit different to what it currently is~
After finishing it almost one week ago, I’ve finally got my thoughts written up…
Warning: Ending Spoiler!! [All my posts contain spoilers, but this is the ending, so an extra warning message ^__^]
Omg…the ending of this episode was so…=___=;; not watchable!! They added in some stupid stuff which left me with the oddest feeling after watching it; a sense of dissatisfaction as if it had ruined my impression on the story as a whole because they made it comical and musical *sigh* I really didn’t like it…
Getting back on to the story..
Bernice convinces Sharon to leave Sky One Tribe with her to declare peace between the Bloody Shadow Clan and the “Good” people; thinking it would bring an end to all killing.. Of course, this was part of Bernice’s father’s plan in luring them out and he ends up killing the 7 groups, and Sharon in the process. Even though Sharon was injured, she managed to put up a good fight with Bernice’s father..Sharon doesn’t end up having any final words, and dies in Kevin and Bosco’s arms..(I knew Sharon would die, but I thought she would be able to say a few words before she did. We also didn’t see Bosco and Kevin’s crying scenes or grieving over her death..I would really liked to have seen that; instead, the in next scene, we see Kevin at Sharon’s grave). Quite sad though because they went through so much to save her, yet at the end she couldn’t live.. =(
I’m surprised Shirley didn’t get injured since she can’t fight, I would have thought she would have been there for a purpose, but I guess not. Its cool anyway, I like seeing all the main character together and on one side. I also didn’t like how the 7 groups didn’t have much reaction when the Sword brother attacked Sharon…those 7 groups were so useless..Bernice’s father is totally corrupted. How can he rule Wulin when everyone is pretty much gone?

Bernice leaves them after she convinces Sharon …

Bosco tells Shirley that he wants to delay their wedding, but promises her that he will marry her.

Bosco and Sharon tell the Tribe leader they would be leaving the village to finish off the Wulin matters. Shirley leaves with them.

Day the agreement goes ahead. As Sharon is about to sign, the Sword brother attacks Sharon.

They have realised they have fallen in Bernice’s father’s trap.

Bernice holds off her father for a bit so they could escape, too bad it wasn’t for long..

Sharon’s assistant gets killed by Bernice’s father

Sharon dies in the arms of Bosco and Kevin.

Bernice grabs onto her father and they successfully escape.

The tribe people saves Bosco’s life
With the help from Bernice: Kevin, Bosco and Shirley were able to escape back to the Sky One Tribe. Bernice’s father ends up putting poison in their river to force the Sky One Tribe people to come out. Having three days left before they run out of water (from their well), Kevin and Bosco discover the most powerful fighting techniques at Sky One Tribe whom the people there do not value (The Sky One Tribe people don’t fight and live in peace). Within two days, the two learn various martial arts/ techniques. This is too unrealistic..as Kevin said; there were so many books and pages; it would take them more than 2 days to read (and where do they get the time to learn and master the techniques?) They eventually found the weakness for the ‘7-person-ultimate attack’ (which Bernice’s father has mastered by himself now); and the two fight Bernice’s father. If its that hard to learn, why is it so easy to defeat? They lured him into using the 7th stage in that ultimate attack and eventually Bernice’s father blows up and explodes… While they were luring him to use the technique, Bosco and Kevin used various powerful martial arts, constantly throwing new attacks on him. When Bernice’s father asked where they learnt it from, we see a separate clip of Kevin and Bosco advertising the book to the audience (such randomness..) The final battle was very light-hearted…

Sharon’s grave..

Bosco and Kevin realises the guy selling fish has very awesome chopping techniques.

Kevin and Bosco realises the Sky One Tribe has the technqiues to many poweful martial arts that have been ‘lost’ for along time.

Kevin and Bosco looks at their ‘notes’ (techniques); they are worried they would forget. Bernice’s father waits for their arrival.

[The advertisement]

The kamehameha – famous for its creation in DragonBall Z… XD

The two find the wekness to the 7-person ultimate technqiue

Bernice’s father uses the 7th step and explodes..

[Several years later…]

Bosco’s brother performing at their restaurant.

Bosco gave wayne a new grave?

Bosco teaching the Sky One tribe people technqiues to protect themeselves (or was it for a better health? I forgot XD)

Bosco and his son

We get the weird dancing and singing from Bosco’s brother and mother who appear to have set up their own restaurant as they retell the stories of Bosco and Kevin. We learn that Kevin left and brought Sharon’s ashes with him and released her. Bosco then appears and Bosco’s brother start advertising merchandise of dolls etc of Bosco and the others and tries to sell them to the customers. (I wonder if they are real merchandise for sale which TVB is trying to promote) I’m a bit confused with this part actually..Bosco’s son runs in with Bernice coming in after, so it appears that the two have gotten together, but I think it turns out to be Shirley’s son. Something happens, and Bernice leaves…Bosco tells his brother that he’ll be meeting up with Bernice for a night snack..the remaining characters start dancing on the streets…and yeh…that’s pretty much how it ends..this is what I call randomness…the characters went ‘out-of-character’ and they even sung with English words in there o.0

Didn’t like this episode much..
At first I was really excited that Bernice went against his father and now everyone knows that her father was the one who killed Bernice’s godfather. The School of Sacred Sword’s name and reputation is pretty much gone and the 5 new disciples, along with the 2 other leaders leave. What annoyed me so much was the fact that it was Bernice’s father who had planned for all this to happen; from letting Bernice see him kill the leader. It just doesn’t seem to make much sense.. did he really have to go to the extreme of revealing his real nature to everyone and then try get Bernice to become the new leader and believe he has learnt his mistake? How come Bernice can just be appointed the new Wulin leader? Doesn’t it have to be re-elected, or go to the one who is next most powerful in martial arts? Since no one appears to respect Bernice’s father anymore, why do they leave him the power to give up his position to whoever he likes?

Bo Bernice! Go Patricia!

The 5 disciples say goodbye to Bernice

In this episode, Bernice’s father pretends to fall seriously ill (from bad health? How is this possible?) and persuades Bernice that he knows he has regret doing the wrong thing and seeks to ask for her forgiveness, and for her to stay. He also hands to her the position of Wulin leader and asks her to seek peace with the Blood Shadow Clan. He also tells her that only this way there would be real peace and she and Bosco can be together because they would no longer be enemies. Bernice falls into his trap and goes to Sky One tribe too talk to Sharon about declaring peace, and for the Bloody Shadow Clan to join the “good” side. Haven’t seen Bosco for so long, she finds out that he’ll be marrying Shirley…

Bosco and Bernice finally meet after their separation

Bosco tells Bernice he will be marrying Shirley.

Bernice trys to smile and congratulates Shirley
On the other hand, despite Shirley’s father trying his best to save Sharon, they were unsuccessful.

Sharon says that her real name given by her parents is ‘Snow’, ‘Mok Mun’ was the name she gave herself whn she was 13, (that is when Bernice’s father killed her people). She tells the other to call her by her real name.

Kevin begged him to save her and he was willing to give up his own life for hers if he could. Upon hearing thing, Shirley’s father takes Kevin to a very powerful musical instrument (like the one Kevin’s mother had played) and tells him that when this powerful instrument is played, it can tear up the soul (my own interpretation xD) , perhaps attacking the sounds into Sharon can rid the negative things. Of course, being as strong, it can kills them both in the process. Kevin does take the risk and at the end, it successfully worked ^^ She wouldn’t have to die anymore..

Shirley along with Kevin and Sharon arrive at the Sky One Tribe to seek for help, but it is the tribe’s rule of not saving anyone from the outside.

Shirley’s father checks Sharon’s pulse and tells them that she is seriously injured and cannot be saved.

Shirley begs her father to save Sharon but he is not willing to break the rules for her.

Kevin wants to take Sharon to find someone else who can heal her, but Sharon tells him that she rather stay at the One Sky Village. She feels that she doesn’t have long to live and is happy she is able to spend her last days with him.

Sharon and Kevin join the other tribe people in their celebration event.

aww…
When Sacred Swords find out that they have escaped into the Sky One Tribe, they plan to attack the tribe for them going back on their words for inteferring with Wulin matters because they have ‘helped’ the Blood Shadow Clan by taking in the Blood Shadow Clan’s leader, Mok Mun (Sharon). It was pretty much his excuse..its obviously wrong to break their agreement withouting vestigating further because Shirley’s father didn’t heal Sharon..Bernice’s fathergathers the 7 groups for their meeting and discusses this matter

Bernice’s godfather tries to prevent the action from going ahead, but Bernice’s father takes control and basically degrades him in front of everyone, saying he doesn’t have the right to speak. Bernice’s father then concludes no one has any objection to the idea, and if they do, they are a suspect of defending for the bad guys. Its like, geez, why call on the meeting if he’s unwilling to hear other’s opinion on the view. Its like he’s just commanding them to do what he says..

Bosco and his brother and mother arrive safely at the One Sky Tribe.

Sharon gets extrememly weak and Bosco goes to beg Shirley’s father to save her but he wouldn’t.
In order to save Sharon, and not having Bosco leave to take revenge, Shirley makes Bosco drunk and then sleeps with him, so that now he is one of their people. Since he is one of their people, then so is his sister Sharon is as well. I’m a bit disturbed by what Shirley did..its supposedly for a good cause..but i just feel its wrong for her to do something like that. Feels like she’s just being selfish and just wants Bosco to herself.. there was also this very evil-ish music in the background..feels like she’s not doing it out of purely wanting to help Sharon…its so..unfair to Bosco..Bosco being the guy he is tells her that he’s not going to neglect her (if that’s the word).

In order to test Bosco’s love for Shirley, Shirley’s father tests them with a punishment- and that was having Bosco get pushed of the cliff. Bosco is powerful enough to release himself but does not want to, because all he wants is for them to save his sister. He doesn’t care if he dies as long as they would Sharon. Shirley tells him she wants to die with him, and Bosco kisses her on the forehead. Seeing Bosco loves his daughter, Shirley’s father releases them and tell him they will try their best to heal Sharon.

Sharon getting healed~ They successfully heal her pass the first level.

Bernice witnesses her godfather’s death.
