The episode and concepts sound quite interesting. The first shot of the series opening reminded me of Face to Fate (did they reuse that picture?), then it occured to me that both of them is about “Fate” and “Destiny”. I really like Steven’s character because he’s really funny to watch. He tricks people to make a living, but still has the good heart to give back people their share as well (referring to the old lady who tricked him return. What a woman! And he actually ate that yucky bread she gave lol I gues he was trying to be nice..?)

Not being really good with the Ancient language (especially when it comes to politics), I was a bit lost in what as going on, but I think I’ve got a general understanding of some sort lol I’m a bit confused how the current king became king though..(they gave him that yellow thing and everyone recognises him as the King? Wasn’t there already a King back then?) Being able to understand the future is bound to bring lots of problems, and the desire to become the king.
Interestingly, Steven tricks Benny in giving him money in exchange for a fake “Future Picture” (thats the name I’m going to refer to, not sure whats it called) which is a picture that holds the fate/future if it can be understood. Because of Benny’s poor prediction about the war; everyone believes him, causing chaos in the town. I guess it comes to show how much people believe in “Fate”..

On a side note, I really like the themesong- sound really catchy and definetly better than the Life Art Themesong.

While I was still watching Dicey Business, I had heard many positive comments about Brink, in which many have said Brink is just as good, perhaps even better than Dicey. However, after completing Brink, I think that Dicey still wins it for me.

Why am I comparing these two? What do they have in common? Not much other than the fact both have been released pretty much after each other and both series have been highly regarded by many viewers.
Wanting to watch more?

From watching the first episode of Dicey, I was immediately absorbed into the story. I wanted to know what would happen next. I felt a lot of things happen in the one episode. For Brink, it took me a lot more episodes. The first few episodes seemed like they were just introducing the characters and nothing really happens. I wouldn’t mind watching the next episode, but if I skipped parts I felt I didn’t need to catch up on those bits. It was only later into the series where Brink kept me interested.
The Cast

The cast of Brink didn’t particularly catch my attention when I heard about it. Really, only one particularly did and that was Michelle Yim. I’ve only seen Michelle in one series before, and that was a long time ago in “Heavenly Sword Dragon Sabre 2000”. She was so cool there lol I’m not really a fan of Shirley, Ron, Steven, Bernice, Kate, or Kenneth. They are ok, I don’t really mind them though. I haven’t seen a series with Steven Ma or Bernice Liu in a while so tried to be optimistic. The combination of the casts were a bit different from the usual. I heard Shirley was going to play an evil villain so I was looking forward in seeing her perform here as well.

The cast in Dicey was very strong. Michael Miu, Bobby Au Yeung and Jessica stood out the most. There was also Benz Hui playing as a supporting cast. They are very experienced and I just felt the characters were really brought to life. I really like Bosco, so that was also a plus!

The Romance

High level of chemistry between Michael and Jessica, and Jessica and Bobby. The bond between Jessica and Bobby seemed unbreakable. The love triangle between Michael, Jessica and Bobby was very interesting and watching how Jessica was struggling choosing between the two was absorbing. Bosco and Tavia were pretty cute together too. Even for non-couples, there was evident chemistry between Bosco and Jessica- how Jessica cared so much for him , Bosco and Michael- how much Bosco looked up to Michael, and Bosco with Bobby- the brotherly love.

However, in Brink– there was hardly any romance between Ron and Kate. I found the two quite ordinary together; the two just didn’t have a particularly interesting personality to start off with. The two also do not have any conflict in their relationship, and got together smoothly with no bumps in the way even though Shirley tried to get in between them. Steven and Bernice were a little more interesting. There was a small love triangle between Steven, Bernice and Kenneth, but it ended quickly with Kenneth’s death. I also believe Bernice did not really love Kenneth; though she wanted to give him a chance. It wasn’t a hard choice for her to make. I did enjoy the Stephen Wong and Michelle mother-and-son relationship though. No matter how evil Michelle was, she truly loved her son more than anything in the world. Stephen and Ron were nice to watch together too, especially after Stephen was involved in the accident. Ron and Steven were good friends, but that was about it.

The Action

Both series have a lot of action, especially Brink. The action I remember most clearly in Dicey was when Michael and the gang beat Bobby up on the ship and threw him in the ocean, and towards the end when the bad guys were going after Bobby and Bosco. In Brink, there was a lot of killing off of characters; and because there’s a police force involved in the story and investigation; there’s more action/fight there as well.

The characters

In Dicey, the characters develop and grow. They start and finish as different people. They have a background/back-story. Something happens to them, which impacts how they behave and interact with other characters. Michael’s character is gray. He was a good guy turned bad and was driven by his motives of wanting power; yet at the same time, he is deeply in love with Jessica and he has one true friend- Benz. Jessica is a gambling addict that appears to be carefree, but we learn of her dark past she does not want to face. She eventually overcomes this shadow and her character matures, and can live truly in a different perspective. Bosco’s character changes from all sorts and he character was ‘blind’ for a while..Tavia also learns at the end what’s right and what’s wrong..

In Brink, most characters can be labelled. They are either good or bad.

The good guys: Steven, Ron, Kenneth, Bernice, Kate, Stephen
The evil: Michelle Yim, Shirley, Ngoh Wah, Vin, Shirley’s father

Yoyo (plays Steven’s sister) changes for the better though ^^
Steven and Ron’s characters are made so flawless it becomes almost unrealistic. Steven’s character.

The bad guys don’t change. From the beginning till the end they do bad things and don’t learn from their mistakes. They don’t think they were ever wrong. Shirley is a selfish character, she does not care about anyone’s feelings. An odd thing is that the evil guys don’t always trust each other either. Michelle didn’t mean to do any harm to her brother, but her brother ends up hating her thinking she deliberately fooled him so he couldn’t escape. Michelle and her husband often lost trust in each other. A lot of the time, the bad people think others are as evil as themselves.

After all that Michael did to Bobby, the two manage to become friends in the end (sounds sorta unrealistic though). In the case of Brink, the only evil person pretty much ‘not-dead’ is Shirley where Kate still treats her as a friend by taking care of her at the hospital though I’m pretty sure Shirley isn’t grateful towards her anyway..

[Life Art] Synopsis

As usual, I pretty much read the Synopsis for a TVB Series after watching it to avoid spoilers XD Sounds kind of silly since the point of the synopsis is to let you know a bit of what its about and try get your interest. I rather rely on hearing from others if its worth watching or not; then give it a go myself. Its sort of like movie trailer~ they tend to show you the best bits in the movie. A lot of the time, the TVB Synopsis has some false info, but the Life Art one is pretty consistent.

Casts: Kevin Cheng, Gigi Lai, Paul Chun, Evergreen Mak, etc.
Episodes: 20

Adjustments to the synopsis given by TVB:

*When Kevin meets Gigi, she isn’t an illustrator for children’s book yet

* “Ji Chung’s true feelings for Chi Wah be enough to move her?” I’m assuming this is after Kevin’s ex-girlfriend returns?

[Life Art] The Final Episodes

The last 2-3 episodes was about Kevin and Gigi’s relationship when Kevin’s ex-girlfriend Janice shows up. It wasn’t unpredictable as it happens with a lot of TVB series (Like in Herablist Affair, A Trust of a Lifetime ) where: Guy1 breaks up with his girlfriend (Girl 1) because the Girl1 likes Guy2. It’s usually Girl1’s fault for cheating on Guy1. Guy1 meets Girl2 and just when the two fall in love and everything goes well, Girl1 shows up again, wanting to go back to Guy1 because she’s not happy with Guy2 anymore. There are some where Girl1 even tries to beg Girl2 to give Guy1 back to her because she “needs” him more than the other..and Girl2 usually does try to leave out of the love triangle. I find it so stupid with the whole tossing around or “giving” up the guy you love because someone asked you to. Doesn’t anyone think what the guy wants? Who he actually likes?
There are some situations where when Girl1 comes back, Girl2 can see that Guy1 still cares about Girl1 and gets misunderstandings in thinking Guy1 still loves Girl1, when really, Guy1 was either feeling sorry for his ex,or just trying to be nice to her because he treats her as a friend. Ultimately, Guy1 loves Girl2 and has no intentions of going back with Girl1; but the way Guy1 deals with the situation is rather poor because he does not make it clear to Girl1 or 2 who he really likes.
In Life Art, I think Kevin’s character did a really good job to show them both who he really loves. From the moment Janice came back, Kevin introduced Gigi to her again, but this time as his girlfriend and held her hands firmly. He didn’t just ignore Gigi or try to hide the fact from Janice. I believe he wanted Janice to know that he’s with Gigi now and that there’s no hope for her coming back; rather than, trying to make her angry. There was another scene where its raining outside, and when Kevin and Gigi were sharing under the same umbrella, they see Janice standing and watching them in the rain. Gigi tells Kevin that they should shelter her; but Kevin tells Gigi that only 2 people can fit under one umbrella; its too much for the 3 of them. Kevin was trying to make Gigi feel secure. Janice was his past, but Gigi was his present and future. Kevin didn’t go see Janice after she had returned; he tried to ignore her when she came to find him. However, after all that, Gigi still doesn’t seem to be convinced which really annoyed me. I don’t know what more she wants (other than Janice not appearing at all). She was always saying that Kevin shouldn’t treat Janice like that and he should let her explain. Janice does end up talking to Kevin, and he makes it clear to her that he was moved on. As she was about to leave, Janice faints so Kevin takes her back to his room. Upon seeing this, Gigi gets upsets and asks Kevin that they should see each other less..

During the time the two don’t spend as much time together anymore, we don’t see what Janice is doing either. Did she continue to try and find Kevin? I assume she didn’t, but that would sound unrealistic. In this time, Kevin continuously tries hard to win back Gigi by setting up the field of flowers that Gigi had sketched out..their ideal place..the flowers, the rainbow..the table.. At the end, Kevin takes Gigi there along with Janice and Gigi is moved for what he did for her and the two get back together.

I wonder why Kevin brought his ex-girlfriend to the field of flowers with them as well. Was he trying to show her how much he loved Gigi and what he would do for her; or was he merely trying to complete the sketch drawing Gigi made, where Kevin previously rubbed Janice off. He even got the Dinosaur toy of Kenny..

Overall, the story had a happy ending though I wasn’t really convinced by some of the things that had happen. Like:

*Evergreen becoming friends with his wife’s business partner
*Gigi’s father didn’t seem to even try to save his business (but of course, they don’t end up selling it at the end)
*Ben and Astrid becoming a couple. How did he manage to win her? The two plan to enter some dancing competition when Ben only learnt to dance (I guess he can try hard to learn it for her..)

[Life Art] Intermission Clip

I liked watching the family of the three together~ it looks like a really relaxed family and they get along so well~ I liked Natalie in this series, she really does seem to fit well playing the sister-type role, more of a supporting cast.

Evergreen and Evonne are a funny couple to watch. Sad to think they ‘wasted’ all those years arguing with each other when it was obvious they still lovd each other, but neither of them wanted to apologise and give in.. It was only until the other guy comes in that the two got back to each other.

This scene (minus the photo) was used in the series and in the themevideo. Look how fake the coffee looks XD I was pretty sure I’ve seen the coffee in the cup in the shape of a heart last time o.0 Overall, it was nicely put together ^^

YAY! 100,000 hits!! Thanks for all your continuous support by visiting and commenting at K for TVB!~ You guys have been great!!! ^^ I really do appreciate it =D Thank you so much!!

And Thanks Chibi for the above gift ^^

Adjustments to the synopsis given by TVB:

Yuen Wah did not take Benny as his student. Benny wanted him to but this did not end up happening. Benny also does not become the student of the evil fortunte teller guy (Nam Fong Man).

Comments:

The Promotional Image looks great! I like seeing Benny and Selena there ^^ I didn’t search up to see what the story would be like, or what it will be about. I’ll definitely give it a chance; hope it’ll be good. I’ll see eventually when time comes, won’t I?

Airing in Australia TVBJ from 23 April 2007(showing after The Slicing of the Demon)

8:30pm 溏心風暴 Heart Of Greed

Cast: Moses Chan, Bosco Wong, Raymond Lam, Linda Chung, Tavia Yeung, Yoyo Mung, Ha Yu, Lee See Kei, Susanna Kwan, Michelle Yim …
Episodes : 40

The series I’m really anticipating, especially after watching the themevideo!! Really looking forward to it! It looks like a grand production with a grand cast ^^ I haven’t seen Raymond in ages!! I’m so excited to see him again hahaa~! And Linda looks so pretty here.. can’t wait to watch the Raymond/Linda/Moses/Yoyo relationship ^^ and of course, with the more experienced actors too! I love the themesong by Susanna. She has such a lovely voice and the tune sounds great; creating the whole atmosphere. I haven’t seen a Moses series in a while so its good to see a different face =) And Bosco looks like such a bad boy~ interesting to see a different side to him (than his character in Devil’s Disciples). The main downside I felt was finding out it was airing at 8:30pm rather than the 7:10pm (which I always end up watching, but not necessarily at 8:30pm)…Uni workload is increasing, lots of assignments and exams, and by the time I finish the rest of this semester the series would be over then. Not sure if I can make time for it as I hadinitially hoped; and to do some blogging as well..Have to see how things go..
