Synopsis
Guangzhou is in a state of political turmoil in the 1930s. Gangsters are on a rampage and opium trading becomes rampant. As they watch the illicit profits from opium trading escalate, the government forms the Anti-Smoking Bureau under the guise of suppressing opium, but the bureau is under the influence of CHENG LONG-KWAN (Yueh Hua), the gang’s kingpin. His eldest daughter CHENG KAU-MUI (Sheren Tang) who is an unscrupulous person soon returns from Shanghai to reap the rewards. MUI meticulously plans her every move.
On the other hand, LAU SING (Wayne Lai) is the leader of the Criminal Investigation Team. He has worked hard all his life to ensure an easy trail for his family, especially for his bed-ridden younger sister LAU CHING (Fala Chen). Despite his hot temper, he values friendship and brotherhood more than anything else. Once, he almost sacrificed his life to help his timid teammate, TONG KAT (Pierre Ngo).
It is fated that MUI and SING should meet each other and survive many calamities. It is also fated that both are fierce contenders who will never give in, although mutual understanding and affection slowly grows between them.
Meanwhile, the Japanese army invades China and Guangzhou falls into the hands of the Japanese. MUI enters the darkest time in her life when her aunt CHENG LONG-HEI (Susan Tse) frames her.

I just finished watching the first episode…this story is being told by a third person..with this first episode, we can already see how the ending would be..i would say that this series is going to be very different than Rosy Business. In Rosy Business, we could say that the ending is good but (**from this very first episode**) I would say that this series will have a lot of killing and crying and sadness.Still, I hope that this series will not be a disappointment as i have high expectation on it…and also because i had been waiting for this series ever since i know they are going to make a sequel to Rosy Business with almost the same cast… 🙂
hmm..apart from the narration at the beginning, I don’t think the rest of the series is told in third person.
i think for a first episode, this drama is really very intense! the first episode was good. kinda expected what to happen, esp for the first half cos i read the tvb weekly scans from the no regrets blog lol. but still, it was very touching! kudos to both sheren and pierre! they shined in the first episode! can’t believe that pierre can actaully pull off comedic roles. (: looking forward to second episode tonight! ^^

just watched the first episode and it felt so similar to the first rosy business!! just the exception that now Sheren is the villian.. i must say it is a good start and am looking forward to watch this entire series! hope you’ll be doing recaps! 🙂
yes the first episode was really intense…but i think sheren’s character would be something like evil turn to good…
I love that her character is in the areas of grey..she’s very devious at the moment, yet we already see hints of..something.

Just watched the first episode and it’s rather epic! Really looking forward to seeing more of it… I’m especially curious about Wayne and Sheren’s character but so far I think Sheren is shining 🙂 She’s great as a villain!
Finished the second episode just now, and I have this like-hate feeling towards Pierre, lol. Yes I feel really sorry for him, but yet his behaviour at the same time makes me so frustrated and angry at how poorly he handles situations, and ends up being a big sook..
Story is still going uphill with much intense!
Only 2 episodes and it’s already so “action-packed”! Certainly not a slow drama, and I hope it picks up or at least maintains it from here on out because 30-episode dramas tend to get draggy in the middle.
Sheren is such a great actress! Whether in a good or evil role, she pulls it off with equal charisma and screen presence. I’m looking forward to seeing how her relationship with Wayne will blossom 🙂 Also looking forward to seeing how Wayne’s relationship with Fala will be.
I don’t know how I feel abt Pierre’s character,haha. It’s like he has the worst luck in the world and is always at the wrong place at the wrong time. Poor guy. Wish he had more of a backbone, but very refreshing to see Pierre as such a weak and timid character – really shows his versatility as an actor 🙂
I think Raymond Wong looks good in this show, even though he hasn’t had much character development. Probably because he’s nice to Pierre..

and i got a feeling that though pai guat is now someone who has the worst of luck, he will turn out to be a very strong person. dunno why, but i just feel that it will become this way.

OMG damn this is one intense drama, first 3 episodes are so epic, i hope it doesnt become too…iunno how do u describe it? like when it becomes too draggy. But then again after those parts, the climax brings the intensity again 🙂

Hopefully it won’t get draggy but so far I think there’s great balance! I even like the ‘ordinary’ scenes where it shows their everyday life and character developments..it adds a lot of value to the story and you really feel for them 🙂

Watching this series now. Very, very exciting! Sheren Tang’s character is so complex, I can’t figure her out! Both she and Wayne Lai gave excellent performances as usual.
Congrats wayne and sheren..i support you forever…how much i wished that wayne/moses will get the fav character award and i don mind if charmaine got the fav character award since there are quite lots of ppl who like her “cute “character but deep inside me i prefer miss nine..moses should get more award instead of raymond..anyway congrats to them…btw,no regrets should get the best series..no regrets ismy fav drama series…well done…
