Synopsis
Military Governor CHOI NGOK (Damien Lau) has been attempting to overthrow the Yuen Sai Hoi government. To facilitate his plan to stage an uprising in Yunnan, he pretends to be fooling around with the highly sought-after courtesan CHEUNG FUNG WAN (Kathy Chow), nicknamed SIU FUNG SIN, to avoid detection. YUEN SAI HOI (Law Lok Lam), who is suspicious of NGOK, sends the Chief of Staff MOK YIK TIN (Dominic Lam) to spy on him. Later he even lures NGOK’s wife PAK SZ TING (Krystal Tin) to Beijing, hoping that this will force NGOK to pledge his loyalty to the government. To ensure the success of the revolutionary movement, NGOK carries on with his affair with WAN as a camouflage, without realizing that she has seriously fallen in love with him. WAN is ready to give up everything just to be with NGOK while NGOK remains cold and distant towards her. Soldier YUE YAM KWOK (Kenneth Ma) is also in love with WAN and would like to get her out of her predicament. Sadly WAN turns him down, for her love for NGOK is so much stronger than one can ever imagine.
Comments: oooo..this looks good!! Looks like a nice leading cast! TVB seems to do pretty well it(I like them anyway despite HK ratings lol)Â in period dramas so I’m looking forward to this one 😀 I wish there was a better female cast for the younger generation though..

Normally I’d just not watch a series like this..but from previous experience, these period drama series are much better than it seems (like Easterly Showers, Silver Chambers of Sorrow etc).. so might give this a go..hope it’s good though!

I have just finished watched this great TV series. A very good one. The synopsis is well written. The plot is not too slow and too fast. Just right. Damien Lau portrayed the charismatic General Chai very well. This movie is not only pictures the war era. The way to include the love story between the general and the high courtesan was rather touching and than corny. From this movie I know more about modern China’s history without feeling reading a book. The moral stories behind the movie were beautifully captured in so many scene with so many character. I hope TVB will produce more good quality series with good cast like this one. I normally never like Kathy Chow for more than 15 years watching TVB series. But for this one, I have to admit, she had carried her character well. Well done TVB.
