Best Actor and Best Actress
Best Actor
Wayne Lai (“The Confidant”)
Congrats to Wayne Lai for a well-deserved win for his role in The Confidant 🙂 Wayne Lai is a great actor no doubt and his performance in “The Confidant” was solid. I am still left a bit shocked though since I seriously thought Raymond Lam would take home the award this year, considering this award if voted by fans for the first time.

Best Actress
Tavia Yeung (“Silver Spoon, Sterling Shackles”)

Best Supporting Actor
Koo Ming Wah (“Divas in Distress”)

I wish Power Chan won this award instead….I absoluately adored his character “Pang Sam Sun” in The Confidant. I am confident in Power Chan’s acting abilities though- hopefully he will continue to shine and get the award next year. Something tells me that if Koo Ming Wah doesn’t get it this year, he probably won’t in the future..Good on him though. The way they presented teh Best Supporting Actor and Actress Award this year was weird. Top two were annouced and they were given a chance to say their thank-yous, before announcing the winners themselves. ODD.

Best Supporting Actress
Nancy Wu (“Gloves Come Off”)- A great performance in “Gloves Comes Off” and definately a breakthrough role for her. This award wasn’t unexpecting, especially when she took home this award at the Astro Awards earlier in the month. Mandy Wong was the runner up for this category.

My Favourite TV Male Character
Kenneth Ma (“The Hippocratic Crush”)- I adore most of Kenneth Ma’s roles lately, probably other than “Silver Spoon” where he was quite wooden…lol His role in Hippocratic Crush was neat, though I really wanted Raymond Lam to win this award for “Highs and Lows”

My Favourite TV Female Character
Kate Tsui (“Highs and Lows”)- A big congrats to Kate Tsui! I really liked her character as Pat and glad she got some sort of recognition. I wish she won Best Actress instead though- it was such a breakthrough role for her She seemed quite sad when she was doing her speech and it seemed like she had lost hope in the Best Actress Award since she won this award. It was also a bit sad when she mentioned that she’s not liked by the audienceso never thought about winning this award. Hopefully Kate will continue to work hard for next year!

Most Improved Male Artiste
Oscar Leung (“L’Escargot”, “Queens of Diamonds and Hearts”, “House of Harmony and Vengeance”, “Tiger Cubs”, “The Confidant”, “Big Boys Club”)

Most Improved Female Artiste
Mandy Wong (“L’Escargot”, “The Hippocratic Crush”, “Tiger Cubs”, “Divas in Distress”)

Best Series
“When Heaven Burns”
What the ….? Seriously did not  expect this..
Outstanding Artistes Award
Chin Ka Lok, Benz Hui, Sunny Chan, Lee Sing Cheung & Carol Cheng

Lifetime Achievement Award
Liza Wang

Overall, I’m quite satisfied with the results and I’m really happy for most of the winners.  My biggest shocker is “When Heaven Burns” taking away best series. I did not enjoy that series…

I was actually glad WHB won Best Series. Haha.
I felt like Power should have won instead of Koo Ming Wah but that’s fine.
Really glad that Nancy won this year. Leading status for her now, I guess! 😀

Congrats to all the winners! This year was a lot better than the others.

Overall quite happy with these results, though I was a surprise Wayne won the award since this year Raymond Lam had a pretty high chance (with it being a popularity contest). Glad Wayne won though I feel like Raymond still has a long way to go in terms of acting skills…

I would’ve preferred Power Chan over Koo Ming Wah for best supporting actor.

Happy Kate won favourite female character, I think they did a really good job in Highs and Lows.

Wish ‘Highs and Lows’ got the best series award instead. WHB wasn’t good and had low ratings..not sure why they won :p

Pretty happy these veteran actors such as Benz Hui and Lee Sing Cheung got an award 😀

So glad that When Heaven Burns got the recognition it deserves.

  • Rin says:

When Heaven Burns… that’s a surprise! I sorta checked it out but couldn’t get into it but I guess other people have different opinons? Though I did like the cast in that… oh wells.
The results this year aren’t half bad (: so happy for Oscar!!

  • kiko says:

same, did not except when heaven burns to win. actually didn’t expect wayne to get the best actor award for the 3rd time either!! awesome!

  • may says:

Just so glad that NANCY won!!! So happy for her!!
This year’s results are not too bad! Happy for tavia, kate, oscar and mandy too!

  • Ri says:

Quite pleased with the awards this year too! All very deserving, I feel, except for WHB which to be fair, I didn’t watch so I can’t comment much. I was surprised to hear it was in the top 3 and then it won too? wow, maybe I should check it out. Even Moses looked shocked and a bit awkward too haha! When they announced the top 3 I expected The Confidant to take it, eventhough I wanted THC to win because TC was well-produced but had so much potential to be so much better imo!

I was also quite surprised to see Wayne pick up TV King. Not that he’s undeserving but I expected Raymond’s legions of fans to push him to the top! Congrats to Wayne!

Tavia’s win was the most moving for me, especially when she hugged Kenneth, Mary and Elena :’) She’s definitely paid her dues and has been consistently good even with crappy characters. Not a big fan of her fashion choices that night tho!

I find that whole thing where the top 2 best supporting actors/actresses had to present the awards to themselves was a bit weird, tho I’m glad that meant less weird award presenters than tend to go on and on and on… Happy that Koo Ming Wah picked up an award but definitely feel Power should’ve gotten it! Not just for his Pang Sam Shun character (which I really enjoyed) but for his consistently good performances over the years!

Kenneth was so cute showing off his award whenever the camera panned to him, haha! Yat Kin Tou was a great character for him, happy that he won the award for it. Kate looked a bit disappointed after wining Fave Female Character but I’m glad she got some recognition for her role in Highs and Lows. Here’s to more great things from these two! 🙂

Happy for Nancy, Mandy and Oscar too, all so deserving! Time to promote Nancy to a leading lady role, TVB! I’m surprised Him Law and Raymond Lam went home empty-handed considering it’s them. When they first announced the outstanding awards i thought it was going to be one of those consolation prizes but they gave it to veterans instead so for that I’m glad!

This officially wraps the 2012 TVB cycle up. Looking back, we had some crappy performances but it def was a better year than 2011. Bring on 2013! 🙂

I was surprised to see ‘When Heaven Burns’ win but was so happy for them! I found this to be one of the only series which I really found myself chasing and on the edge of my seat! I think the story was quite out there but that’s what made me watch it, as it was something different! And the cast did an amazing job! Thought the audience chose well personally!

damn, we seem to always disagree on anniversary awards stuff. XD

i’m super upset that wayne lai won best actor. although i fully agree that he is a formidable actor (and he’s been around for so long with so many shows under his belt) his portrayal of this character wasn’t particularly stunning. compared at least to damian lau in silver spoon sterling shackles, i really wasn’t very impressed with li lin ying.

  • haiziwang says:

As with most people, I guess the most shocking win for me was Best Series, which was given to When Heaven Burns.
The Confidant had one of the better endings that tvb can come up with. Overall, I would not say it is awesome like Rosy Business or No Regrets, but it is a production of standard. Not to mention other strong contenders in the category for Best Series, so I didn’t see that one coming.

Pretty happy with where the rest of the awards went to. Except maybe I was a little surprised that Tavia got Best Actress.
Not that I doubt her legions of fans but there seemed to be some negative feedback from the public regarding her performance in SSSS. But anyway, I hope she improves even more now that she got this award. She seemed to be stuck at a bottleneck recently.

Koo had such a large following due to his character it was hard for Power to usurp this year. If TVB is still the old TVB, they will give Power some hyped up role and give him the award next year.

Cant help but speak up for Wayne Lai. I think TC is such a difficult show to be in. Can see from the approach of the show is v toned down and not too noisy (think family squabbles in lots of TVB shows), not to mention the eons of difficult dialogues.
Wayne had to exercise a lot of charisma to make such a character interesting to audiences. I think his scene in prison with his master was nicely done.

But finally, for once the general public seems happy (instead of cursing and complaining kelong) after the awards =)

kenneth is jus not ready for the best actor awards yet. even the prize presenter don’t even know who he is. she mentioned raymond lam, moses chan, wayne lai, damien and when it comes to kenneth she had to hesitate and ask who is kenneth ma. but overall i’m really happy for the results except for the ‘when heaven burns’.

  • stoolsandbenches says:

I did not expect Raymond to lose to Wayne in Best Actor. Especially with this year’s policy of votes. How is that possible?! But frankly speaking, Wayne is still the choice when it comes to professional judgment.

When Heaven Burns winning Best Drama was expected for me. I caught the show recently. Albeit I couldn’t understand a lot of parts, it was still a good and daring drama. Hence it will definitely win the votes. But looking at its ratings, I’m shocked that TVB is willing to give the award to them.

For now, TVB is reluctant to release the votes results for each category. Now that’s a little fishy???

  • Vaneffle says:

For Best Drama, I was hoping for either THC or WHB, but I was actually quite surprised when WHB got it because it had such low ratings and also that whole political issue thing in China. Nevertheless, I think WHB deserves it. =)

Again with the whole popularity contest, I expected Raymond to win Best Actor, not Wayne. (I haven’t actually watched The Confidant or Highs and Lows yet…) And for Best Actress, I thought it was about time that Tavia got something even though I think she still needs some more time to fully deserve it. Her performance in SSSS didn’t entirely satisfy me: I found her character annoying, but then I know of how sick she as during filming and everything…

With the Favourite TV Character awards, what really annoys me is that people seem to forget that the award isn’t “Favourite TV Actor”…

Like every other year, the only awards that I care about are Most Improved and Best Supporting. I really wanted Mandy and Nancy to get their respective awards last year, and I’m glad that they’ve finally gotten the awards =)

I really like the part for the Outstanding Artistes Awards. They’ve finally gotten the awards they deserved after being put to the side for quite some time.

Overall I’m quite satisfied with the awards, I’m just hoping that Him Law and Elena Kong get an award next year, because I think they really deserve it. =)

  • Daisy says:

WHB deserves to win! It was an amazing drama but I guess it’s not for everyone.

  • Madeline says:

    funny how
Tavia and Wayne got Best Supporting Awards at 2008 together
then got My Favorite Character Award at 2009 together

and now Best Actor/Actress Award at 2012 together 😀

Happy for them!! Fighting! Happy New Year

  • Rice Farmer says:

“When Heaven Burns”deserves the award for being the best series… it is not a “see lai” so a lot of people probably doesn’t like it. The storyline was good, and the cast was super. All the actor\actress shown the best of its character. The story is much deeper than most people can digest, but for once TVB shown they can make a TV show for quality instead of cheap ware house series to please advertising customers.
